Re: Was WotC's embrace of Commander a good thing?
I think WotC sees the money-maker Commander is for their bottom line and has no choice but to embrace it. This is rather amusing to think about, that a company has became reliant on a format that they didn't come up and do not fully control. I am sure top execs would love to get rid of RC and ruin ...

Re: Kirkusjones presents: DirkGently's polite debate corner aka the Thunderdome
the data is that essentially zero voltron builds are high-tier cEDH Sounds like a challenge  Rude. Pardon? That is what the article shows as author. "Cameron Wise-Maas | 9 DAYS AGO" It's pretty easy to make voltron decks that either aren't fun to play, or aren't fun to play against....

Re: Kirkusjones presents: DirkGently's polite debate corner aka the Thunderdome
@Avacyn Believer You mean bad experiences and bad power level? They're not mutually exclusive, they're just completely different questions. Something could be both, either, or neither. But I don't have any stance on whether voltron is a bad play experience, only that it's not a very powerful strate...

Re: Was WotC's embrace of Commander a good thing?
The problem is and always has been finding a group that builds like you do, or a store that supports you instead of treating you like a part of their next rent check or you're outta there, and players that don't look at you as an invader to their playgroup or just someone to be pwnd because they do...

One Ring and Paradox Engine could be banned for very similar reasons. Maybe once LotR is an older set and people forget about it.

Re: Was WotC's embrace of Commander a good thing?
Interesting question, and I agree with benjameenbear that it has been a mixed bag. I've been playing Commander exclusively since 2017, and I have noticed too how events in LGS shifted to accommodate for it. I do love that I can travel across the world and have a game of Commander in almost any LGS, ...

Re: STATE OF THE FORMAT 2024
This only works when others do the same. When you play at the LGS because, like, you don't have a personal group, how on Earth can you expect to follow this when you know others are gunning for their A game? It's hard when you have no idea if you're gonna see the deck that loops dockside ad infinit...

Re: STATE OF THE FORMAT 2024
Seems more aware of the state of the game and/or more candid than I would have expected. My expectations have raised somewhat. Same. Whenever I read about MtG from "official" websites, it feels corporate and like they are trying to convince themselves as much as us. This read lot better. ...

Set Review [br] Murders at Karlov Manor I wasn't expecting much from a Ravnica set for this deck because it is not a setting known for its Equipment synergy but I was surprised. Not because of Equipment but because the cards I did find interesting are making me reconsider the structure of the deck ...

Re: Archangel Avacyn - Boros Voltron
Thanks for consistently updating this. This is one of my favorite Primers to read, as a fellow Vorthos fan. I do like the Eldrazi Conscription angle, since it's so thematic with what happened in the storyline. Maybe a small Rector package could be worth it, especially since Avacyn can kill the Rect...

Re: SCD: Demonic Tutor
The cards that tend to get banned are ones that don't really have a fair use. I have had many games where someone cast demonic tutor and it was completely fine. I've had basically zero games where someone cast Paradox Engine and the game continued to be enjoyable. I never thought about it this way,...

Re: How much time per week do you spend magicking on average?
I am in the same boat as some of the others. Actually playing is like 12 hours a week because during a regular week I go to an LGS twice a week, but then thinking about decks and shuffling cards around and dealing with my collection, that can be all day

Re: Archangel Avacyn - Boros Voltron
Feels like I've missed out on more than two sets whilst deployed overseas but turns out it was only Doctor Who and Ixalan. I've also had a look at the full preview of Ravnica Remastered but there was nothing to review about that set, it is just re-prints.

Set Review [br] The Lost Caverns of Ixalan I did not find many cards that I feel support the Equipment Voltron strategy or fit this deck. There are some interesting Equipment cards and lands for consideration, but mainly I feel those would be for a budget version of this deck. Nothing made me feel ...

Set Review [br] Doctor Who I do not mind Universes Beyond as their own sets, but I do not like mixing those cards into this deck, especially when they are so far out of the fantasy realm of Magic, and Doctor Who is its own very specific franchise. That said I've had a look at this set to see if the...

Re: LGBTAPQ+ people place
very upset that wotc took away Huatli's Spark. Now she can't visit Saheeli. Hoping Saheeli still has her Spark... I feel like sadly WotC is like almost every other company, dancing around the LGBT support without committing to it. I suppose at least it is nice to see they do some, but they could do...

Re: Archangel Avacyn - Boros Voltron
What do you think of Academy Rector for the deck? Off of an Avacyn flip it can put an Eldrazi Conscription on Avacyn. Oh that is naughty. I never thought about it as I've honestly have not been looking at cards that synergize with Enchantments, but hot damn. I am testing some new cards now but I wi...

I don't usually find that anger prompts people to become open to dialogue. I imagine the world would be a much less %$#% place if that was true. I agree, and to be honest I am only bothering with this because the person is an old mate of mine, I wouldn't suggest on trying it with someone random I o...
