Re: [SCD] Sol Ring
They have said they do not consider 2 mana 'too much' even in early games because they often see it mitigated with 3 v 1 action, or removal of the threat landed with the extra mana. I do not agree, but thats the data I have seen presented by Sheldon and papa_funk about that particular line of play....

Re: Sram, Senior Edificer (Bogles)
I think that running a couple artifacts for haste is probably required. Sram really, really wants to be able to be hasted when he comes back down after dying so he can clean up. Hall of the Bandit Lord is worth considering in that vein. Otherwise I think this deck mostly will revolve around tutorin...

Re: Sram, Senior Edificer (Bogles)
Any thoughts towards Mox Amber ? I am not sure about it but given how cheap Sram is its could be nice. I don't really run any of the moxen in my sram auras list but I saw you were running two and thought maybe this one would also be relevant given how cheap Sram is. Auratouched Mage is only slightl...

Sram, Senior Edificer (Bogles)
I found Beta copies of Red Ward , Blue Ward , and Green Ward , Consecrate Land , and Holy Strength . Then I decided that I just had to build Sram. Step 1: Dig through boxes to find old, unplayable jank. Step 2: Look for a beat copy of Black Ward to buy. Step 3: Put this piece together. Step 4: Beat ...

Re: how yr play group reacts to various counterspells
On blue vs. nonblue power: Sure there's removal in every color, and each removal has situations they do better in than others. You can certainly stop that hermit druid with a terminate just as well as a counter. But a Terminate won't deal with exsanguinate for 20, nor would it stop a Teferi, Mage o...

Re: how yr play group reacts to various counterspells
The presence or absence of counterspells in a deck is a horrible metric to judge how powerful a deck is. Disagree. Assuming competent deck building, the presence of counterspells is a pretty good barometer for whether or not the deck is expected to go against one-dimentional "my board states i...

A.) ... but you are already weakened by playing a linear deck. B.) But the odds of me drawing those cards naturally is very low... I want to play Mikaeus and with Persist because they synergize with my general, not because I want to go infinite. C.) Ramp lets you play spells earlier. It is not lead...

Re: [MCD] Cheap Tutors
Your Sram Argument makes no sense. Restricting tutors means people will only play them in decks where they make sense. That is the positive, but you paint it like a negative. Also, I play MW, and you make no sense. My deck is about 1/3 ramp, and it shows when I cascade into more ramp. Ramping into ...

Re: how yr play group reacts to various counterspells
The message I'm trying to get across is that playing a low power deck against a high power deck is going to cause issues, agnostic of whether counterspells are present in one deck or the other. To address the other point, I do think that counterspells are better against some decks that others, usua...

Re: Rule Change Ideas - SCG article
Meh, azorius thopter foundry and mono blur godhead of awes aren't going to do anything except add a few interesting options for a small subset of mono and dual color decks. Most of the hybrid multi color cards are rather niche. I'm sure being able to play with Judge's Familiar in Edric is good. I'm...

Re: The Mono White Compendium
I know Sram is at S but he's pretty good. isbpathfinder, I know you'll clean this up and add a ton. Build Options: Equipment ("Cheerios") - can use Ancient Tomb, Mishra's Workshop Auras Voltron ("Bogles") - can abuse Serra's Sanctum and Nykthos but cannot use non-white producing ...

Re: [MCD] Cheap Tutors
Banning the best tutors won't stop tutoring. It will just reduce the number of tutors and make decks less consistent. I really feel we need to reduce the amount available. I believe there is a critical mass of tutors that allow players to basically play the same game over and over again - and that ...

Re: [MCD] Cheap Tutors
Not at all, and you posted why there at the end"battle of haymakers" is definitely not linear. I'm not sure that is the case. If you ask me, land ramp makes the games play out very similarly each time and just as much as tutors do. When every game is just ramp into ramp into haymaker. The...

Re: What Makes Bad Games?
The whole crux is that we are not. I for one are bound by Magic Online, which uses the RC. The other thing is that it's impossible to make "house rules" when people are going to public places for their games. Well, you play mostly (or even exclusively) online... but that's not the case fo...

Re: [MCD] Cheap Tutors
Not to completely derail the issue, but don't land-searching ramp tutors (e.g. Cultivate) do the same thing that you're accusing the 1-2 cmc tutors of also doing? 1.) Arms race, turns EDH into resource accumulation game rather than a resource management game 2.) Makes games linear (i.e. early game i...

Re: Eliminating First Player Advantage
I think it's just a part of the game. Kind of how you can build a good deck, randomize, and still need to mulligan. No one tries to make basketball an even playing field between taller people and shorter people. Some of these things that are viewed as "negative/bugs" are actually "pos...

Re: Is it time to cut signets entirely?
It's nice to have another deck building tool.
Talismans can produce colorless which is relevant. Even losing life is relevant and can be a positive at times.
Signets are ridiculous with Mana Reflection and producing the the extra color from colorless is extremely nice.

Re: What Makes Bad Games?
After a quick peruse, I'm absolutely certain that the format is in the right hands of Sheldon and the RC. First, they created the format and everyone/anyone else is free to build their own format from scratch or just use house-rules. Second, under other leadership, y'all would have banned every card...

Re: Old characters left for legends?
If WotC wants to put Gaea on a card, I'd almost be against it for the fear of it either being too good it's banned or not good enough.

Re: [SCD] Sol Ring
In many of the games that I play, the power level just isn't high enough to ensure that T1 Sol Ring + 2cmc rock leads to a runaway game. Often, players will keep weak hands just on the promise of having a T1 Sol Ring without a meaningful follow-up. In some games where T1 Sol Ring + 2cmc rock does pu...
