Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
Cards that deal with Golos: Linvala, Keeper of Silence Pithing Needle Sorcerous Spyglass Collector Ouphe Cursed Totem Damping Matrix Null Rod Phyrexian Revoker I get your point about Giant Growth, except I think you are being too strict in your interpretation of 'considered for banning'. Is Command...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
I love when someone trashes my arguments by ignoring the important parts. I didn't say that being ubiquitous was enough to get banned. I said it was enough to get cards considered for banning. Sol Ring isn't considered for banning because it's ubiquitous. It is considered because fast mana warps ga...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
In counterpoint, I think the claims that the card can just be answered are a bit confusing. You had better be playing exile or tuck removal if you don't want it to just show up again every turn in most white decks :P Once it hits the battlefield it's going to keep hitting the battlefield until some...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
And from my side I think you're dramatically underselling the effect. Ephara is a very weak commander and represents 2 cards a turn cycle for 4 mana. You're being quite disingenuous here. You have to make an upfront payment of 2UW + continue to pay more mana + have 2 triggers before you're even up ...

Re: Winota, Joiner of Forces - More Human than Human
Is Ruination worth it enough to play for you? If not, is it a meta thing or a power thing? I want to build an all-out aggro deck with a non-cmdr set general and this is the first card that has interested me in awhile. I want to play it in strong/tuned meta but not full on thassa oracle+consultation ...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
It's probably the single most powerful thing you can do for 2 mana if you do it before people play their commanders and people don't answer it. You're denying 3 players - on average - at least 3 virtual cards each (given the average power level of commanders). People are seriously misunderstanding ...

Re: Looking for a new commander
You can build Brago using only uncommon and commons. My Brago build is chock full of rares, but I could see a pauper build accomplishing the same thing. Here's why I built my Brago deck: 1.) Two-color so it's strong vs Blood Moon, etc. This is important to me because my main deck is 5-color. If I'm ...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
Anyone playing this card will be playing it to disrupt people from playing their commanders. They aren't playing it to stop graveyard shenanigans or cascade. It may come up, but the primary reason is to stop commanders because that is the effect that will come up in every game. The second reason pe...

Re: Killing commanders (permanently)
Gilded Drake being Blue and only 2cmc is just one of the many reasons why Blue is so strong. At that point, it's just a supremely superior Beast Within/Generous Gift in terms of tempo. It's worth noting that if person A is playing a deck that really wants to have their commander on the table and per...

Re: [Speculation] Ban List Update Prediction Thread
I'm down for a Gifts unban and Rofellos, unlike the other banned commanders, does not lockdown. But Primetime would be the strongest card in the format with an unban. You have to have seen the damage he's imposed on every other format, right? Upheaval is also insane. It's a get out of jail card unli...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sensei's Divining Top
When you watch a strong player use Sensei's Divining Top and compare it to a indecisive player, then you would see that Sensei's Divining Top is not the actual problem. In fact, when you watch that same player who doesn't make decisions at a reasonable pace play many other cards, you see that no car...

Re: Yorion, Sky Nomad - Let's brew!
Still torpor orb in particular is pretty bad for us since it shuts off Yorion's etb, but if we have enough things that work around that (e.g. exclusion ritual we can probably just remove it. That is one big advantage Brago has is being very resilient to orb, but many of his best targets are still e...

Re: If you could make one change in Commander...
As much as I dislike a lot of those commanders, I think power creep in general - and a disregard for balance in non-tournament formats - is to blame, moreso than supplementary products. [...] I don't think there's any clean dividing line between the not-obnoxious commanders and the okay ones. If th...

Re: If you could make one change in Commander...
Instead of tiny leaders, brawl, oathkeeper...or whatever new flavor is being pushed, I just want for non-supplement set Commander to be a thing. I might be in the minority but I believe that EDH was better before yearly Commander Sets and other supplemental products like Conspiracy, Battlebond, etc....

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nevinyrral's Disk
Edit: Really just black border OG art. The art and the border are reason enough to run it. And if you don't mind FBB, that's one route you could consider. These days, there are some many card choices available. It's okay to run something just because you want to rather than running a tactically or ...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
the card does seem efficient and unnecessary to me. my issue with it isn't even how it'll play so much as why it exists - it looks like wotcee attempting to print sideboard cards and be in tune with the meta, which never goes well. giggle. I wish they'd go back to doing top-down flavour cards and l...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
And as for the cancerous musings, doesn't Drannith Magistrate strike you as such, Dirk? The card's giving off heavy "something will happen" vibes, either casting the commander will get altered in the rules or this will get itself banned. Saying it dies to removal is meaningless, so does P...

Re: How much devotion for Thassa's Oracle?
I use Thassa's Oracle in a Brago EDH (well-tuned but no stax elements). All I did was replace another 2-cmc card with an ETB, so including it essentially required no extra deck building considerations. If scry 1 approximates the value of drawing 0.5 a card, it being an extra win-con is enough value ...

Re: Sai - Low Curve Thopter Swarm
Why not play Scrap Trawler when you're already playing Ashnod's Altar + Krark-Klan Ironworks? If you want extra permanent removal, Spine of Ish Shah has worked for me despite the casting cost. With Spine + Scrap Trawler + Ironworks, you're basically playing Modern KCI. It becomes very easy to accide...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Wargate
Wargate is definitely costly.
But if everything you want is 0cc (i.e. Non-Basics) or 1cc (e.g. Exploration) it's an all-star. I'm always glad to see this in my opener when I play my Lands.dec. It's kinda like an Expedition Map that also ramps.

I do not understand the "I don't see any advantages" stance and it makes me very confused. I think it's very possible it would be worse. I see all the disadvantages. But that statement is so rhetorically loaded to try to win an argument I just don't get it. How can I see all the disadvant...

Re: Alternative card counts - 60, 80
Yes, absolutely the case. *if* you ran the full suite of tutors. I think the attractiveness of tutors goes down as your deck size goes down Lower minimum deck count = less tutors is simply not true, regardless of power level. For instance, in my Child of Alara Lands.dec, chopping from 100 cards to ...
