Re: Arena Brawl Meta

On a less whiny note, what are you playing or the fun things you are seeing? I have a Kethis, the Hidden Hand deck that is a midrange value monster. He's mostly useful for reducing the cost of legendaries, and it's a wolf focused synergy machine. Obviously, Yarok, the Desecrated is fun. I've seen so...

Arena Brawl Meta

All the discussion of Brawl on Arena is currently focused on their Brawlidays extortion attempt. And I don't have a lot to add to that. But Brawl is an interesting format that I'm surprised more people don't talk about. Maybe just because we are limited to only playing it on Wednesdays. It's importa...

Re: Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - Bring me gifts that I can eat!

I suspect if I cut Mycoloth it would be for something completely different. Emrakul's Hatcher strikes me as a card thats powerlevel is a little lower than I'd like. It has good synergy, but at the same time, feels like it's lacking in situations where Korvold is not online. Growing Rites of Itlimoc ...

Re: Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - Bring me gifts that I can eat!

So Farhaven Elf was primarily because I didn't have a Springbloom Druid . But Yavimaya Dryad is interesting. May have to go that route as a placeholder. Forgot about that card and I love the design. I'll always be on the lookout for the rare corner case where its not wrong to give my opponents the l...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Word of Command

Has anyone played this since mana burn was a thing? I feel like this is how it would play out: Player 1: Casts Word of Command Player 2: Looks at hand, in response floats the wrong colours of mana Player 1: Word of Command resolves.... Mana pool doesn't empty before the spell resolves, so this is n...

Re: Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - Bring me gifts that I can eat!

So this is what I have put together as my build: Commander 1 Korvold, Fae-Cursed King Creatures (Value) 1 Diligent Farmhand 1 Dawntreader Elk 1 Dockside Extortionist 1 Sakura-Tribe Elder 1 Viridian Emissary 1 Eternal Witness 1 Farhaven Elf 1 Wood Elves 1 Tireless Tracker Creatures (Utility) 1 Elvish...

Re: Korvold - let’s brew!

Ranking of treasure producing cards for Korvold: 1. Pitiless Plunderer - The synergy with the other cards you are likely running is insane. This card is explosive. 2. Dockside Extortionist - Cheap, efficient. Can be part of an infinite combo, but pretty powerful by itself. 3. Brass's Bounty - Huge c...

It sounds like any of the WAR stained glass walkers are options. So Teferi and Narset may be in there as well, but who knows.

Re: Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - Bring me gifts that I can eat!

So I think there are two main concepts that I am finding important as I play and tweak: Firstly: Having a Plan A and a Plan B Korvold is an insane card. The powerlevel is off the charts insane and it is a draw engine and kill condition wrapped into a single card. It's not an either/or with him. If y...

Re: Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - Bring me gifts that I can eat!

I've been tinkering with a list based on this setup and was curious to see if you had any more experience to add or feedback. How have the discard outlets been? I can appreciate that they let you do nutty things when Korvold is in play, but unless you are going off, that Zombie Infestation feels pre...

Re: [SCD] Akroma's Vengeance

Obviously, it's a situational decision, but the key decision points are focused around pressure - either putting it on your opponents or relieving it on yourself. If your under pressure, the decision tree is pretty obvious. If you need to wipe the board, you save it. That goes for even if you will n...

Re: Who wants some swords?

Combat, equipment and artifact focused? Sounds like Boros through and through. Akiri, Line-Slinger // Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder is the partnership I'd look at. Rewarded for more artifacts and the ability to doublestrike with swords? Yes please. But Tiana, Ship's Caretaker is an option as well, and ...

Re: November 18 Banned & Restricted Announcement (Oko Banned)

So the play design article on the mothership makes me feel worse, not better. So they are deliberately trying to power up standard, is a bit of a shaky concept. I get that they want cards that are relevant in more than a single format, but I'm not sure I agree with them that powerlevel misses are mo...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mage's Contest

Platinum Emperion should work fine, as you aren't paying the life. You are bidding and then if you win, Mages' Contest makes you lose the life. I think this is a card that seems neat, but plays much less neat in practice. While you can mentally concoct interesting scenarios, in reality, the situati...

Re: Help me find a list of all cards?

I'm currently using a google docs spreadsheet to track my collection. Data taken from scryfall whenever a new set gets added.

Searchable, filterable, sortable.

I'd probably try out the collection tracker, but it'snot exactly a small undertaking to input the info on a collection that large.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Saheeli Rai

There are unfair uses for Saheeli, if cEDH is your thing. There are fair uses for Saheeli, but if that's what you are going for, you are better off with something else. She's a planeswalker that doesn't protect herself. Her +1 is not worth the card. Her -2 is good, but unless you are using a degener...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Gemstone Mine

It's a powerful card, but I wouldn't call it a great one. It's got a niche, and outside of that niche, it probably shouldn't be in your deck. Hyper-competitive, 4+ color deck looking to end the game as quick as possible? This land is for you. Otherwise, 3 uses is a real significant drawback. One tha...

Re: Using Rule 0 to Determine a Deck's Power Level

Two things that stand out to me. 1. Decks don't pilot themselves. Knowing something about the player is as (if not more important) than knowing something about the deck. 2. An undefined scale (like 1 to 10) is not helpful, and may be more misleading than not. A more simple scale would be. Level 0 - ...

Re: Golgari(from the grave up)

So I think you need to make some more choices to set the foundation of you deck. I know you say that you want it to be a 'sacrifice' deck, and while I see some of that in there, the list feels more like a 'medium-stuff' mishmosh (I'd say good stuff, but some of the cards are just not good). And that...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mental Misstep

I never said spot removal is bad. I said spot removal has to remove something that's powerful enough to demand removal. If your example of a card that needs to be removed (Laboraty Maniac) cannot be removed/answered by any of the cards that you are defending, perhaps your missing something. Isolate ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mental Misstep

I think Disdainful Stroke is the only one of those that's remotely playable, and very different from the other 3. Think of it this way - All of these cards are singular answers. They are reactive spells that create a 1 for 1 trade. So why are you running cards that create a 1 for 1 trade in a multip...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Rewind

I feel like this is a trap card. It lulls inexperienced players into thinking it's good because it's "free" but in reality they're still playing a 4cmc counter. And when they do this without an instant or other mana sink available, whoaboy. It's not. It's just not as broken as the other Urza block ...

Re: Gavin Verhey and Command Zone announcement video!

I am strongly opposed to the precons with only 3 new cards. Sounds more like a Planeswalker deck. Unless they really push the reprints it will be kinda useless. Honestly i'm happy i they are "upgrading" the precons. Having a legendary that support a landfall deck, or an ally deck, or a trap/quest d...

Re: Gavin Verhey and Command Zone announcement video!

I know people are pumped about Commander Masters at the outset, but let's reign in our expectations a bit. It's still being designed for limited, which means it'll be full of chaff, especially at lower rarities. They'll also use the 'foil in every pack' gimmick to jack up the price, and probably co...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ash Barrens

AB is an auto-include and one of the best cards in the format. Is it? I'm not saying it isn't, but thats clearly not an opinion shared by the wider community. Of the top decks it appears in on EDHREC, the only 1 that isn't a precon commander that came with it is The Gitrog Monster . It's not a bad ...
