Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Bootlegger's Stash

This card isn't the terror everyone thought it was going to be, but it's pretty gross nonetheless. It's got a lot of combo potential, and even many of it's strong synergies are pretty nasty. It's obviously a machine with treasure synergies, and if it were white it would be even stronger. Six is a lo...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Wand of the Worldsoul

It's definitely got it's uses. It's a lower floor than Cursed Mirror, sure, and less generically useful, but it's ceiling is pretty high and it's good in archetypes that are common in white. The question is how many dudes do you need to be able to consistently tap (and be fine with tapping) to make ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ravenous Slime

Hates on aristocrats and death triggers, as well as gy decks that want to recycle creatures instead of just reanimate to cheat on costs, and the payoff is fun but fair. It can get huge quick, but in the end it's just a beater, and it puts a target on itself even for opponents that it's replacement e...

Re: Expropriate

So two common removal spells wouldn't render Expropriate with 1 time and 3 money votes much weaker? Yeah, if you can kill a dude's combo T&N isn't so bad, but the same is true if you kill the two best permanents stolen. People can downplay T&N all they want, but the same arguments apply to E...

Re: Expropriate

I think the problem here is Craterhoof Behemoth not Tooth and Nail . I have a rather incredible dislike of cards that are immensely difficult to interact with outside of having Counterspell . Most of the creatures T&N pops out can be interacted with in a meaningful non-counterspell way. Hence I...

Re: The top three worst strategies to play against

On edhrec: I'll add that a lot of commanders over the past few years are so narrow that anyone with a good collection who picked it up and was forced to build it in a cave with no internet would come up with something indistinguishable from an netdeck. Lots of recent commanders just build themselves...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

If it's not all spoiled yet, there could be a card that fetches up Flame of Udun from the library to the battlefield and gives it haste. I could imagine something like "Delved Too Deep" 2BR Enchantment Your opponents can't search their libraries. 0, flip a coin: If the coin comes up heads,...

Re: The top three worst strategies to play against

Horobi is basically just a creature machine gunning deck, and there is one thing you have to keep in mind while playing a deck like that: you don't actually have to clear the board if that's just going to be helping another deck. That's just a failure of diplomacy if you do that. The ability to do i...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Can't wait to pick up the singles for pennies in a few months. Ah but that's how they justify the price. A few months from now there won't be any singles about because the print run is so small, because it's a special release. Or worse, if there's delays like with WH40K you get inflated costs becau...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Order of Whiteclay

Order is one of the few cards that rez weenies that is also a weenie himself, and it covers both the mana value 3 or less condition (which he uses) as well as the power 2 or less condition (which is another common condition for weenie reanimation). And he's repeatable. I feel like one day white ween...

Re: Tempo: The hidden cost of spells that don't do anything

For tutors, my question is what are you using them for? If you are only tutoring for win cons, then yes you get randomly %$#% canned by extraction effects or smart players sitting on a counter to blank whatever you tutored for. But if you are using tutors as toolbox cards, then they really don't fal...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni

Ink-Eyes vs Archpriest is interesting. I don't think Ink-Eyes is outclassed by Archpriest, but that they are similar cards that serve different roles. Ink-Eyes is a surprise when you have evasive dudes, while Archpriest is telegraphed. While this will sometimes not be an issue, as you can just put t...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Behold the Beyond

Demonic and Vampiric. Not only are they far better than any of these 4+ mana tutors, they paradoxically draw less hate. Paying 4+ to tutor really isn't worth it, and especially these 5+ mana tutors that can grab multiple cards, unless you are grabbing something to win with. Tutor for answers or for ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Bringer Cycle

Black Dawn is "WURBG: Eat a kill spell." Nothing that gives you a somewhat relevant body and tutors is actually bad it's just been eclipsed. Sidisi is obviously better, but think about why. You need to be able to blink/reanimate her in order to get more than one tutor, or you need somethin...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ancient Imperiosaur

This has won me a couple of drafts. It's just so easy to make huge. If you have a couple of tokens to tap it's a 10/10 trample wars 2 for 5 mana. That's not going to win games in its own but it's pretty good for something that's almost it's fail state, since its trivial to obtain in decks built to t...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mizzix of the Izmagnus

Probably the most popular experience commander that I've seen? Mostly because spellslinger is popular. Sticking to the OGs, I'd say it generally goes: Meren of Clan Nel Toth > Mizzix of the Izmagnus > Ezuri, Claw of Progress >> Daxos the Returned >>>>> Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas I have literally on...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Koma, Cosmos Serpent

I'm not a fan of this card. It's a big, splashy sea monster that appeals to Timmy but plays oppressively. But at least it's no Aesi.

Re: Aftermath commander roundup

Set boosters are pretty sweet, they're value tends to be way over a draft boosters because your more likely to get multiple rares plus alt art %$#%. Definitely worth it if you just feel like cracking packs. Both products serve different purposes. It also opens up space to not follow the rarity rules...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Priest of Forgotten Gods

It's good. In a 4 player pod, if everyone has a creature out, you trade 2 creatures to take out 3 creatures, draw a card, add BB, and bleed your opponents for 2. That's a 4 for 2 that also adds mana and attacks life totals, and the 2 "cards" you go down are probably less valuable than the ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Xanthic Statue

New creature Karn ramps it out then gets boosted by it's high CMC, and it has a Karn quote, so Karn tribal.

Not everything has to be good to have a home. Sometimes Karn just needs to get +3/+3 from remembering that birds %$#% on him.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Backdraft Hellkite

It's really not a heavy lift to give this haste. Your obviously already leveraging your graveyard, so you might as well have Anger in the deck giving everything haste, while lightning greaves and swiftfoot boots are still staples. I feel like the bigger problem is that haste isn't going to help you ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Hushbringer

I think it's a lot better in something like hate bears than actual stax. I also don't think it should push you off of running the effects yourself either. It's an answer, and one that should stay in your hand until you need to deploy it (because it's clear Brago is about to snowball, for instance). ...

Excellent card. It has a leg up on similar cards because it stops death triggers as well, so it nails TWO archetypes
