Re: SCD: Nadu, Winged Wisdom

It just absolutely needs to eat a ban. It's completely broken and hurts the format, and the message needs to be sent that these kinds of cards aren't ok.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nevinyrral's Disk

I still have it in a number of decks. It's not an auto include like it used to be, but it puts in a lot of work in the right places. It's a recurring sweeper that hits a lot of stuff that you can build around to break the symmetry. It's been an all star for me in Raff Capeshan, it combos with Darkst...

Re: SCD: Nadu, Winged Wisdom

Dirk, it's only a small part of your post but you nailed it. You deal with Nadu by countering it the first 3-4 times it's cast. That's the only viable interaction with it. The alternative is to combo out on turn 3 or 4.

Re: SCD: Nadu, Winged Wisdom

Honestly, Derevi should have been banned back then. It was a problem commander that created unfun play patterns and blazed a trail for %$#%$#% that messed with the command zone and strong commanders thar are difficult to interact with. Derevi not eating a ban contributed to the current trend towards...

Re: SCD: Nadu, Winged Wisdom

Like, Rowan its OP, but also requires more set up to do her thing AND needs haste or she eats removal before doing her thing. She's must kill, but killing actually helps. This bird isn't must kill, its must counter. If it resolves, unless the pilot is woefully misplaying, it will generate at least 2...

Re: The Murder-pact Conundrum

Honestly, you're three solutions pretty much sums it up. Best case scenario it proves to be a winning strategy, and then gets widely adopted and ends up not actually conferring an increased winrate to anyone. This is assuming that everyone understands that if anyone gets too far ahead while in the p...

This thing can remove two attackers in key situations, and that flexibility I what puts it ahead of similar cards that are sorcery speed.

I just want RN unbanned because there's a ton of stupid crap you can do with it that's far less powerful and oppressive than other stupid crap we can do currently. I want to loop Chimney Imp.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Black Market Connections

The life payment adds up... but there's more incidental life gain running around than people sometimes think, including on some commanders. Ramping and drawing a card is strong, and having only 1 colored pip makes it easier to cast that Phyrexian Arena (both for 3+ color decks and for casting off ro...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

Rhystic is really easy to play around once you realize you don't have to warp your game plan to do so. If you absolutely need to be playing everything on curve, sure they'll draw a lot of cards but I assume you will be benefiting pretty significantly in board position and tempo to justify doing that...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Tymaret, the Murder King

His first ability gets super expensive super quick. I had him as a commander years ago and there was just usually a much better sac outlet available at any given time. His second ability makes him pretty sticky, you just use that after he's removed twice and you'll never pay more than 4 to cast him,...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Isildur's Fateful Strike

I don't like this despite running, and liking, Yawgmoths Vile Offering. Yawgmoths filthy proposition costs more mana, has the same caring restriction, and is a sorcery, and has the additional restriction of being useless if there's no creatures in any graveyards, but reanimating a creature is huge v...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - ABUR Duals

The original duals are almost never worth it, IMO - the monetary cost to upgrade your weakest land into one will pretty much always be better spent on upgrading something else unless you're getting into actual cEDH territory. I'm willing to give a pass to people that have been playing for ages and ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Harnessed Snubhorn

The huge play is somehow getting an expensive artifact or enchantment into the yard then cheating it in, but that requires a lot of setup and deck building requirements. This does a solid job of just recurring artifacts and enchantments for value though, so I think it really wants a deck where cheat...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Xander's Pact

The best case scenario with this in a 4 man pod is you freecast 6 random spells in exchange for a 6 mana spell, a creature, and a bunch of life. It could be pretty fun in a few decks without the paying life rider. I used to have a Jeleva deck focused on stealing opponents cards that this is perfect ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sliver Queen

It's either her or Overlord as technically best Sliver for the combo potential (Overlord grabs her and a haste enabling sliver and manaweft). She does it cheaper (on mana) and with more style, but he's more consistent. Still, there's a whooping 5 slivers that grant slivers haste and 3 slivers that l...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sauron, the Dark Lord

I can agree that I'd rather see commanders like this than some of the broken nonsense like Chulane that usually get pushed as face cards, but I don't think it needed this much complexity to get there. Maybe merge the last to clauses, so instead of the Ring tempting you when an army you control deals...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sauron, the Dark Lord

Dirk, I think its more sensible to compare his ward cost to other ward costs rather than hexproof. Obviously actual hexproof is cancer on splashy commanders, but that doesn't mean his ward cost is actually well thought out. A simple mana based ward cost can accomplish the same thing but be more or l...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sauron, the Dark Lord

Sort of emblematic of the problems with the set, this card has a lot going on rules wise that doesn't actually add up to all that much. Before getting into the rules text, its baseline stats are fair. 7/6 for 6 is expensive but big enough to rumble and kill in three hits. Not great, not terrible. No...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ezrim, Agency Chief

Why would I run this guy to be my control commander when I could run Chromium 2? Yeah, 2 more mana, but flash is huge for a control deck and he kills in three hits instead of 5.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Samwise the Stouthearted

This Sam is pretty boring. It's a pretty narrow regrowth with the Ring tempts tacked on. Probably has some use in a dedicated Hobbit deck or dedicated Ring deck, though those both kind of suck. As for the Teshar loop, just one of many and not the most useful on its own nor most well suited to the ro...

Re: Aether Rift [scd]

Madness also works against this because a lot of madness cards aren't creatures, which limits the hits, and if you choose to exile madness creatures to be able to cast them then you can't get the opportunity to free fast them. Basically, why not run a discard outlet you can control and which also ac...
