Re: RULES UPDATE - Death Triggers on Commanders
So, I haven't seen the in depth details but assuming you can still choose to leave the commander in the graveyard then Fool's Demise will work fine. If we only have the option of treating them as tokens, it will disappear to command zone before the trigger can resolve. Tokens essentially are gone b...

Re: June 1 2020 rules changes
I understand other formats needed something to happen. I get that. I just wish it was bannings with a "my bad" from wizards instead of this weird rules change that isn't reflected on the cards' text. Second, it's fine to frame it as a gameplay choice to pay 3 to put a Companion in your ha...

Re: [MCD] Companions are horrible.
The first thing I thought of actually was "Can we have something like this for Commanders, perhaps using Commander Tax as the cost, so that people can actually play Commanders that trigger when cast from hand / can't be cast from the Command Zone?" I'm aware that Command Beacon exists, but...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Diamond Cycle
They're two-mana mana rocks. In 3+ multicolored, there's heavy competition against Signets and Talismans, so unless you really need a glut of rocks, these usually don't make the cut. In mono-colored, the one Arcane Signet is still better, but you also have a drought of colored rocks. Fellwar Stone m...

Re: Partner with Mono-Color
Ah... okay. I think we are talking past each other a bit. I am saying that mono-color/mono-brown decks are under-powered and overly-restrictive compared to other decks in the format. This causes a bunch of fun commanders to not be used due being not two+ colors. So I am suggesting Mono-Partners lik...

Re: Are Booster Packs Loot Boxes?
I think we're hitting a bit of a wall here. Obviously there are differences between physical goods and digital goods, especially when those digital goods are account locked. In my opinion - and from what I understand, in the opinion of most governments that are legislating loot boxes - those differ...

Re: Mutate creatures in the 99
Between Karador and Animar, I'd personally say Mutate in the 99 wouldn't be that bad, in fact, quite fun and appealing. Karador can mutate from the graveyard and has death-trigger weenies like Viridian Emissary that make the removal options less satisfying. Animar reduces mutate costs and presents s...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
Ultimately I think the Magistrate has to go through the "tried and tested" route of being played for some time before any decisions can be made, not unlike much more explosive cards like Griselbrand, Prophet and P.Titan went through. Personally I think/feel there are enough decks out there...

Re: 100 Card Limit
Gonna be fun ranking the "pillars" of the format's identity for myself. 5) 100-card total. As I said I don't particularly care if this is gone, it's a pillar, but I daresay at this point of the game's popularity I can say we can retain our identity strongly without this min-max cap. I see ...

Re: 100 Card Limit
I'm seeing the companion rules as a "loose screw" in one of the pillars giving the format its identity. The rule change provides the "oh, you can have more than 100 total if a card could fetch itself from outside the game" loosening, the same way I saw "you can spend mana as...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
Naturally cEDH reddit is upset over the "tone" lol In the recent year I started using Reddit for other hobbies (mostly because traditional forum formats like this are mostly dead and basically non-existent for some hobbies) and oh boy are the MTG sub-reddits blazing wildfires in general. ...

Re: If you could make one change in Commander...
Rework life total and commander damage together as one system I guess? Not drunk, but even thinking about this idea makes me think it gives an impression I'm drunk when I thought of this. Every player starts with 3 life totals, each starting with 20 life. "Player/Normal Life" - You lose wh...

Re: Hybrid mana
In my eyes, PK is conflating a deck-building rule with a gameplay rule. Hybrid cards are treated exactly the same as any other card both during deck construction and game play in commander. The issue arises in that only commander has the color identity rule and thus is the only format (or family of...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
A few weeks ago I dropped by a local gaming convention, but being not into video games now (regressed to lazy mobile gaming for most part), there wasn't too much for me. Turns out there was a booth by a LGS (only been there a few times because it's not exactly near and I'm lucky to be quite spoilt f...

Re: Which do you like more?
I have a 1-of rule across all my decks, so I do run both in the same utility in different decks. That being said, I prefer Confluence. It's a meta thing for me, but at 4-5 mana I'm hardly using them as counterspells because counterspell wars easily erupt where I play, so the add-ons are just incenti...

Re: Which do you like more?
Crux of Fate . I can easily envision the scenarios where Whelming Wave would be better, but even taking into account that in a vacuum I think Crux is better, because it gives the ability of choice, even if Dragons are more common than the 4 Sea-Monsters combined. Decree of Annihilation vs Obliterate

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Checklands
As someone who does not play with ABUR duals (since no foils) and only on-color fetches (aesthetics), these lands currently rank 3rd behind fetches and shocks for me for my 2/3-colored decks. They're arguably among the best duals if there's some metric of power over budget used. Compared to other &q...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
So, what's everyone's current thoughts for the next deck they're building? I did a "reboot" of my suite of decks to divide my utility resources more evenly across my decks. This is usually the major time for a potential "upset" to happen (meaning a new commander convinces me to ...

Re: Proxies in Commander
I've pretty much always proxied over the years and am still proxying some cards in my decks, although at this point it's mostly just lands. I'm lucky my LGS group doesn't mind and we waver on the 75% line (sometimes we slack off, sometimes we tilt a bit too close to cEDH for comfort). In fairness, m...

Re: Headed for Seattle
In addition it would be nice for players to get copies of cards from previous Commander sets in foil (I know I would like to get a foil Thunderfoot Baloth and any chance for players to get a foil Teferi's Protection is definitely going shift boxes) that could also be included within the same produc...

The thing is, the faerie itself and the background are great. It's that damned belt of red lips that's rubbing me the wrong way. It adds nothing and sticks out like a sore thumb because of the color contrast with the rest of the piece. Sometimes less is more. I had to recheck the creature type afte...

I remember a few years back when they came out with that promo and the price dropped to like $13 or so I ended up buying up a few more. I think I probably have 4-6 of them these days. Re: Hybrid mana
As I said, if they keep it up, we'll likely revisit. Thus far, they haven't shown any inclination to take advantage of this loophole. I think describing it as madness is kind of wildly overstating. It's a weird corner involving 13 cards (of which 3 are played in any numbers) where there are valid c...
