Does your play group allow proxies? I recommend doing that.

I run a copy in my Rashmi deck and can confirm it brings the groans. However, that deck is "high" power and I only play it against decks at that level. Running it at lower power levels seems like a good way to lose friends, especially if you have ways to protect it.

I've been playing the Silverquill precon with Breena the last couple weeks and it's pretty damn good. I also still have the Kalamax precon put together which I love even more but just checked the price and it's close to 90$ certainly due to deflecting swat.

Sudden Substitution is a bit of a pet card of mine. The MV and its narrowness stop it from being too great but it always makes me happy when I cast it.

Also want to point out that you don't have to control the creature or spell so it can also be a political card.

This used to be more true. However, so many budget dual lands have been printed that even budget players run a fair amount of non basics not to mention the ever-expanding supply of budget friendly utility lands.

I run it in Rashmi to good effect (and in addition to rampant growth and farseek). But it doesn't make the cut in my other 3 decks that could run it as 1 is Edric which has little to no ramp and the other 2 are 5 color where the ramp often needs to find a specific color.
