Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Vadrik, Astral Archmage

Day/night is the most tedious mechanic they've ever made and I hate, Hate, HATE it. I think they should errata the new wolves to work like the old ones. At least with the old ones I could sometimes squeeze more value out of Cult of the Waxing Moon during my opponents' turns. How is the old mechanic...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Vadrik, Astral Archmage

They should have errataed all the old werewolves to have Daybound instead of having 2 slightly different abilities that cover that same subset of cards across multiple sets. Anyway, I don't like this guy very much. It's very same-y: cast some buff spell, then cast a bunch of Ancestral Recalls, then ...

Re: Let's get ugly with Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds - curing terminal EDH brain - dedicated to my buddy 3drinks

Wouldn't it be better to drop your token producer before Ghired? It has haste and gives your other creatures the ability, so it doesn't need to sit around a turn to do something, and playing it without something to copy just seems.like you're begging for a single removal spell to wreck your tempo.

Re: Indominus Rex

I'm just curious...what do you do to help the table keep track of Indominus' abilities? Cause I wonder if there are cool counters on Etsy or something that can help you keep track! I have a different deck that can get several types of counters and use a dry erase card l. I write out the types of co...

Re: Ghired, Conclave Exile - Triple Dipping Naya Lards

Here's my current list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lBNXw0EkvEOVsb8rdGmthg Had a close game with it last night vs Mothman, Loot, and some mono-white voltron enchantments commander--he scooped the turn he swung at Mothman for lethal, because he had a family issue. Would have been challenging deali...

Re: making multiple monocolor decks

was building Uyo, Silent Prophet intending to play and fork a single powerful spell each turn, but a lot of those powerful spells are either board wipes or theft spells which a) makes the deck fairly modal and b) all the theft makes it feel too reminiscent of the Callaphe deck, even if I'm using no...

Re: Ghired's Cloned Stampede

I'm only seeing 6 ways to copy your creatures, and 2 of those are 1-shots, so you're pretty limited on how regularly you'll be copying stuff. The reason I suggested Dovehawk, Rionya, and Iteration was that Ghired can only copy tokens you've made that turn, which can make copying for value difficult ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Isildur's Fateful Strike

4 mana spot removal is not good. Sometimes this is also an exile 1-3 cards, but even that isn't great. Also needing a legendary on board makes this pretty terrible.

Re: Ghired's Cloned Stampede

First glance, I feel like you have too many effects that want you to tap your creatures when you want them for Ghired's ability. I also think going in on treasure has the possibility of setting up a big turn, but you're not going to want to be tapping for treasure when you have valuable stuff to co...

I'm slotting in Trailblazer, new Ghired, Annie Joins Up, and the Extortionist to try out. Haven't played Ghired at all in a while, but will put it into the cycle of recently edited decks to try.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fires of Yavimaya

I was using this in my Korvolds lands deck, which could produce a ton of tokens out of nowhere and wanted the mass haste, but could also make use of yet another self-sacrificing permanent. The other mass haste options didn't really offer any more benefit, so this was great there. That said, it's rar...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Kothophed, Soul Hoarder

Sometimes it really blows my mind that CA engines this strong aren't good enough for modern commander. I have a foil Russian one if anyone is interested btw xD I don't know that I'd say Kothophed isn't good enough--it's just inherently very risky. You have no control over what opponents have on the...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Wort, Boggart Auntie

Most goblin decks are mono-red, but I could see running Wort, Boggart Auntie if you specifically want to do br goblins - she's the only legendary goblin in those colors that actually cares about goblins. Murderous Redcap , Munitions Expert , Sling-Gang Lieutenant ... there are plenty of good black ...

A sort of 4 mana colorless Crop Rotation that can provide mana until you want the land, and dodges most stack interaction.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Draugr Necromancer

In a world where Gisa, Glorious Resurrector does all the same things but for free, I can't imagine ever playing this card outside of a thematic dedication to Snow. There are zombie and cleric synergies to account for. Still, I have both a zombie deck and a cleric deck, but haven't felt inclined to ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

*Annihilator is an inherently brutally unfun mechanic. Values of 1 or 2 are painful, but manageable, but 4+ can be back-breaking, and a lot of the eldrazi that see play also come with indestructible, and are themselves huge threats, so not only are you getting set further and further behind, your o...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange

One thing of note with Diregraf Colossus is that when doing a mass-reanimation when it enters it sees all the zombies from the yard at the time it entered. even when they all are currently on the stack with abilities which also funny enough includes itself. I have been a big fan of Bone Miser in my...

Blood Artist. If you're already looking at making tokens, BA can cash them in (with a little help) and generator a trigger on each player's turn.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Honestly, I'm not even sure if I can identify why, but my interest in every eldrazi is zero. It's like they all have a big sign that says "this card isn't for you". Same. For me, it's a couple of things. *Annihilator is an inherently brutally unfun mechanic. Values of 1 or 2 are painful, ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mithril Coat

Indestructible artifacts are also pretty tricky to deal with - while creature exile is pretty common, it is less common for people to go out of their way to exile artifacts and enchantments. This means you are likely to have the opportunity to protect your commander a second time if it is removed. ...

Makes sense actually. Okay cutting mana rocks besides sol ring, and adding in more 1-2 drops and gonna look at my taplands. Maybe the flavor of Field of the Dead is not worth it even though the new art is sick. don't forget Springleaf Drum -- very good with 1 drop zombies letting you power out a 3 ...
