Re: March 2020 AMA
I did some serious in depth scanning of various commanders on edhrec because people claimed it skewed competitive causing paradox engine to be overrepresented. I think that's slightly inaccurate, It skews *invested*. These are people who are invested enough in Magic/Commander that they go online an...

Re: [Speculation] Ban List Update Prediction Thread
I keep threatening to do a "If I Were to Design a cEDH Banned List" article and the other three RC members keep threatening to kill me if I do. "Ante cards are unbanned for cEDH play, proxies are officially not allowed." Problem solved. Well, if you're going to go there, you cle...

Re: [Speculation] Ban List Update Prediction Thread
I keep threatening to do a "If I Were to Design a cEDH Banned List" article and the other three RC members keep threatening to kill me if I do. I'm sorry, Sheldon, but "Restrict the cardpool to standard, reduce deck size to 60 cards and let planeswalkers be commanders" just won'...

Re: Why is everyone in cEDH keep calling about 'ban' Flash thing?
No one has certainty. That's the joy of working in the vast space of lower-investment players. But from all the data that I've managed to gather, best guess is that's way too high.Spleenface wrote: ↑4 years ago

Re: Why is everyone in cEDH keep calling about 'ban' Flash thing?
While utilitarianism understandably rubs a lot of members here the wrong way, especially if the cost-benefit analysis doesn't agree with their personal opinion, from my personal perspective it is the right call. That's how society works: there are always winners and losers, and nobody is forcing yo...

Ah yes, the thread that started with a massive inaccuracy and went downhill from there.
You might want to scroll down in that thread. Turns out Reddit is a bad place for expressing opinions that don't match with the hive mind.

Re: Hybrid mana
I gotta say though, this is one of those occasions where i don't see the slippery slope argument. Playing force of will in a mono-red painter deck will still be a no-no, even if the hybrid mana rule changes, as i understand it. Designer intent was that you could play Force of Will without paying bl...

Re: Hybrid mana
So under the current rules WotC can 'hide' Color Identity behind keywords and we'll all just pretend not to notice, like in the case of Extort? I mean, I don't know why they would, but it's still weird that it's even a thing. Like super weird. I sure hope something else like Extort comes along soon...

305.6. The basic land types are Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest. If an object uses the words "basic land type," it's referring to one of these subtypes. A land with a basic land type has the intrinsic ability "{T}: Add [mana symbol]," even if the text box doesn't act...

Re: [MCD] Wishes
Thanks for the reply. This both stipulates that the format needs stabilizing, and that Wishes might do it; neither of which has any backing. Perhaps "stabilize" wasn't exactly the right word. What I meant by it is that Wishes could provide answers to problematic decks and cards (in the fu...

The following replies were typed prior to papa_funk's last reply, but they have been kept intact. I answered this on the Commander Summit like two weeks ago. Re: Having Your Voice Heard
FWIW, I think it's very important to keep an ear to the ground at Reddit - quietly, if nothing else. Often your biggest enemy is also your most honest critic. If you can dig past the extreme hostility and hyperbole, there is usually some element of underlying truth (or at least, common opinion/pers...

That's a pretty good list, though I'm not sure 7 works.
My personal favorite question to figure out that kind of thing is "Why did you pick that Commander".

Honest question here: Which forums? I personally hang out on on MtgCommander, Facebook, Sally, here now I guess, and Reddit when I'm feeling masochistic. Plus all the random forums I'm visiting for my primary Magic job (I write the tournament rules) and whatever YouTube stuff looks interesting. Oth...

Re: Having Your Voice Heard
I don't complain without suggesting a solution, so I suggest the RC release a "Warning List" or "Cards Under Evaluation" list that includes cards being considered for banning, or being observed, so players can feel more assured that the RC and its consultants are actually attend...

Re: Point List
Points lists are great for the formats they're working in. I'm a big fan of CanLander's approach. However, they are great for heavily invested Magic players. Where they don't work so well is for the less invested crowd, who don't have that much time to spend tracking points and figuring out how to w...

Re: Having Your Voice Heard
So, and this is solely my opinion, I think it's time to recognize the growing cEDH community and create a separate cEDH type Commander format. The RC is not the barrier to this. We are, as a group, big proponents of people creating other ways to play. French/Dual commander sprung directly out of a ...
