Re: Skip all my turns deck
I built this exact deck a long time ago, with karona, false god at the helm. Just watch karona beat everyone else to a pulp while you sit on the side and skip your turns. the secondary win con was natural decking while you're phased out. It wasn't great though. I will say, my build has more tutors f...

Re: Quick PSA: sometimes it's OK to be greedy
I think you could probably call these things heuristics. And they really do have value because it lets you reduce the mental load of playing the game and offload it to pre-defined algorithms essentially, but people need to know that learning the rules is just a step on the way to playing well. What...

Re: State of Legacy Thread
In response to yawgmoth: Welcome to legacy! I'll let you in on a 'secret'; legacy is the best format out there partly because it has answers for everything. When W6 was around, i actually ran 6 blue blasts in my mono blue painter list (it's a bad idea, but still a romp to play). And now that oko's a...

I seem to be red-heavy. My fav decks are: - zedruu voltron - rakdos the defiler suicide aggro - lord of tresserhorn 'leaves the battlefield' tribal And one deck i have that i dont like much... - Some BUG general who leads persistent petitioners 'combo' (bloodbond march into overrun and concordant cr...

Re: SCD Razaketh, the Foulblooded
I gotta be honest; the few times i do land razaketh (cheat him out, more like...), i usually either win overwhemlingly, or lose overwhelmingly within the turn or the next turn. I have some number of effects like entomb → shallow grave, tutor for the last combo piece then win sort of thing. But I'm n...

Re: Proxies in Commander
To be honest, i think proxying leads to some pretty unhealthy things (that i've seen). Sure, it's unfair that I'm the only one in my meta who's been playing since before alara or something (i started with revised-ish era), so i happen to also have some old bonkers cards. I get that. But when we (my ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Telemin Performance
Does anyone know if there are cards like artificial evolution but for enchantment subtypes? it could possibly make it more playable. academy rector in a shrine? or a quest? saga? ....cartouche? actually, forget it. It's not good enough. edit: Whoops, didn't see that it was another card of the day. I...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Humility
Ive never had a game where humility dropped that wasn't fun, actually. That being said, i've got a group that has a lot of rules-nerds and it's an interesting dive to figure out if it affects painter's servant, and what might happen if you had an opalescence in play and a blood moon. 'cuz you know, ...

Making a deck for all levels of casual
So I'm about to start a mtg games group at my local school, and have a few pupils who are into mtg already. I was trying to figure out what the best way to make a deck that kinda caters to any skill/deck power level without completely crushing competition. Currently, i have a RW legacy painter, mono...

Re: [Placeholder] Painter's Stone
So I've not experienced the new meta with oko and whatnot (i've been stuck in hospital the last month or so). And I've come down to this as a list. I'm not really sure how the deck fares against the dreaded oko: 4 Ancient Tomb 4 City of Traitors 1 Great Furnace 11 Snow-Covered Mountain 4 Goblin Engi...

Re: How many Dual Lands do I need?
Are 2 ports the norm? most goblin players ive played against have played the full 4 (i think). the mana-denial strategy is definitely a strong win-con against many decks. It could be a thing, but i'd also suggest you find a stock list of mono-red goblins and give it a whirl. I'm not sure if modern g...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mage's Contest
is word of command legal in EDH? could combo well with it (as long as they have it in their hand). I think a counterspell in red is pretty freaking cool. Takes people's expectations and poops all over it. I think it can be worth a slot, though i've never actually seen it played before. I think there...

Re: The importance of "having an answer" in your deck
The only deck i have that can answer almost any threat at instant speed is my legacy high tide deck. If anything that's almost always the plan with said deck (with 'my death' on the stack). In EDH, i don't think in terms of being able to answer everything to be necessary. Most my my decks are betwee...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Compulsive Research
It's ok, but unless you can actually leverage the discarded land, it's not all that great. Good in loam decks i guess, but at that point, there're probably better ways to increase card advantage.

Re: [900+68][Commander] cryogen's Commander Cube
One thing that's made my powered cube (non-edh) awesome is ante cards. In cube, I generally make it a Swiss tournament thing, so ante cards can actually work. There's only a handful of actual playable ones, but it could be interesting.

Re: The Undying Horde
Not sure if this is relevnt, but my horde uses endless ranks of the dead as markers to ramp up the difficulty. Basically, for each endless ranks in play, it adds a doom counter onto the horde player. For each doom counter on the horde player, the horde gets 1 extra 'flop' (i.e. reveal cards from th...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - RAV Karoos
ive never really had great use for them unfortunately. crop rotation to save a gaeas cradle could be ok i guess? but there are other more effective ways to protect lands. Dunno... im sure there are cleverer ways to abuse the bounce/tapping for 2, but i can't think of any off the top of my head. Is t...

Re: Hybrid mana
Are there any developments about the conversation between sheldon and maro? I'm also curious though; what was the actual intent behind the colour identity rules? The thing that I don't get is why, when the design intent for hybrid is "or", do the rules take it to be "and". The ma...

Re: The 'restricted' banlist
Really? I wouldn't have thought that 10 life was too extreme. I mean we're talking about a 1 mana draw 7 in black with no real downsides, for example. Either way, it's more a way for those of us who have power/wanna use some cards that don't jibe well with the EDH format. I don't think i've seen car...

Pre masks cube
So I've built a cube, powered, from cards only in the pre masks era. Except for the mana, since I wanna allow decks to be able to function in 2-3 colours. But when I draft it, the decks don't generally seem to function well enough. It's either too weak or way overpowered. Some games, it's channel fi...

The 'restricted' banlist
So! We've been toying around with a nutty idea of something that we'd just called the 'restricted' banlist. It basically goes as this: The normal banlist applies. However, if you're willing to, for each 10 life lower you start the game with, you're allowed to have in 1 banned card in your deck as pa...

Re: What do I do with a timetwister? Advice and brainstorming!
that, high tide, ghostly whisper and mystic sanctuary feels like it should be some sort of infinite loop for a storm engine. and it feels like they'd be cards that would fit into that style of deck no matter what build you try. Congratulations on getting a piece of power though! I remember when I go...
