Hey y'all!
It's been a while since I posted here, but figured I should start doing it again.
It's been nearly a year since the cEDH Metagame Project started, and we're on the third version of the survey form. Here's the analysis from the first month. Take a look!

Re: Power Level Model Discussion
Nice and well-thought-out approach. The product does seem to be paper specific (e.g. MTGO pick-up games don't really offer a chance for rule 0 interaction, and generally have minimal to no "banter" or socialization). For socialization in that venue, you really need to have a playgroup/cla...

cEDH Metagame Project v2: Quarter-Year Update!
Hello everyone! I hope you are all well, safe, and healthy. It's been three months since Flash was banned from the format, so that means it's time for another cEDH Metagame Project update . This update sees some interesting things that stay the same, some that change, and others that are both new an...

Re: Power Level Model Discussion
I've been musing on this some more, and ultimately split up interaction and resilience before writing up STAIRS (consistency becomes sTability for the sake of an acronym). I'm quite happy with how this turned out, as it feels that these six categories cover the important gameplay aspects. This shou...

Re: Power Level Model Discussion
I read it! I like where you went on the different axes of social play, construction, intent and time-to-win. These are all fantastic. I really, really liked that you used examples of players and their decks, how they built them and where they felt they fit on interaction scales. I'd like to see thi...

Power Level Model Discussion
Hello everyone. For a while, I've been tinkering with a model for looking at power level in Commander. There are a lot of different models out there right now, and all of them have some solidly good points and some weaknesses. The experimental model I've been working on is called SCARS, short for Sp...

Post-Flash Metagame Project: Update #2!
Hey everybody! Since Flash has been gone for two months now, it was time for another Metagame Project update. Read about the very tip of the iceberg of cEDH information here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AY_jNVtyAURh3Y3pRUhDb8aJuDP0lwXbi9TYWgJRT8M/edit?usp=sharing And if you're jamming cEDH g...

Metagame Project, v2: 1st Monthly Update
Hey everyone I forgot to post this over here, but this is the first update of the second iteration of the cEDH Metagame Project. There weren't a lot of submissions for this, so it's not enough to draw many conclusions from, but hopefully you'll find the numbers interesting. And if you're interested ...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
It is not intended to be exclusionary language, only descriptive. I think people like the open letter author in Hermes_ 's comment on page 2 of this thread are trying to disingenuously draw battle lines so they can paint the RC as aloof, uncaring, and exclusionary when nothing could be further from...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
My main concern here is that this situations like these rarely work out this way :P "I only want this one thing and then I will never ask for anything else." "OK, here's this thing. But seriously it's all we can do." "Right, thanks! Everything is fixed now!" And they a...

Re: [Speculation] Ban List Update Prediction Thread
Either way, with the cards that are currently printed I don't see anything being too detrimental to the format, so other than personal dislike for how they were implemented in Commander I'm indifferent. This really encompasses my current feelings, without seeing how the wording on Rule 11 changes (...

Re: Thassa’s Oracle and the Case for Flash
I've heard that stax argument before and I'm not sure I agree with it; it just means one of the interaction pieces stockpiled needs to be blink of an eye or cyclonic rift or chain of vapor or whatever, and right now the consult decks don't have room for those because they're trying to fight Flash. ...

Re: Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy - Coming to a cEDH table near you
Oh, I don't doubt it explosively makes mana. I just don't think the payoff is as worthwhile due to the requirement for colored mana to activate Kinnan, and the restriction to just 2 colors compared to a partner pair that gets you 3 or 4. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen much to convince me that ...

Re: Thassa’s Oracle and the Case for Flash
I think you're missing some nuance in the statement; 'problematic' includes hurting fun. The connection between 'powerful in a certain way that inspires ubiquity' is a reference to how the power level of a card impacts bannings, not to say that ubiquity is all that determines whether something is p...

Re: Thassa’s Oracle and the Case for Flash
In short cards are banned in commander for being problematic, not necessarily powerful - a lot of the time being powerful in a particular way that inspires ubiquity is the problem, but it's not just power. I agree with a decent chunk of this statement, but I think it leaves out something important:...

Re: Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy - Coming to a cEDH table near you
The triggered ability is pretty spicy, but I have to wonder if he's enough better than other options in UG (notably Thrasios) to make him worthwhile. Might be better in the 99/8 of a heavy dork list, I dunno.

Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned
I don't have much to add that hasn't been already said. I do wish that Companion didn't function in EDH, even though I think 3 of the 4 designs are fairly interesting for EDH. But if Companion is going to exist in EDH, banning Lutri was 100% the right choice. I also think the outcry would be very di...

Re: cEDH Metagame Project
Suggestion: Add a legend for Player # to each chart. It'll be easier for readers to digest the information and you won't have to write it out in text form anymore, which player number is what color on the chart. Not a bad idea. I'm not sure if the website I used to make the graphs has a way to do t...

cEDH Metagame Project
Hello everyone I realized that the couple months I've been doing this, I've failed to post it here. This is the latest set of information based on submitted games via a google form that cEDH players have submitted. This one also includes some opining from myself at the end (and a little near the beg...

Re: Why is everyone in cEDH keep calling about 'ban' Flash thing?
cEDH doesn't have its own banlist for a very simple reason: It's not a different format. It's a different philosophy to deckbuilding, gameplay, and player interaction within a game, but that just means that when we sit down to an agreed upon "cEDH" game, we've just already established our...

Re: Why is everyone in cEDH keep calling about 'ban' Flash thing?
I know that in cEDH, currently 'Sushi Hulk' is the only Tier 0 divine deck and followed by Tier 1 Consultation / Tainted Pact combo lists. and everybody else is Tier 2 or less. If RC bans flash, Hulk decks die off. then what? Consultation gonna took that place and oops, same problem rises. Deck div...

Re: March 2020 AMA
Two commander questions: 1) What's your favorite Commander content to view/read/listen to/etc? 2) Do you feel like there's more discussion to be had on the banlist (thinking particularly about Flash), or has that discussion run dry of new information or ideas? Life questions: You're a well noted enj...

Re: What Would You Ban/Unban?
Oh boy. If I had complete control over the ban list?
Well, honestly, it'd be almost the same.
I'd unban:
Coalition Victory
Biorhythm
Recurring Nightmare
And I'd add to the list:
Flash

Sheldon I'm not TempusFugit, but I think that the RC and CAG could help with the transparency issue is by including a bit more detail in the explanations of the bans. For instance, with Paradox Engine, the official language of the announcement briefly makes ment...
