Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

Another day, another win for our good ol' boy. This time, the Shark-nado went the distance. The card is just incredible, and has easily cemented itself as a must-play in this deck. On another note, I've been feeling pretty lackluster about a few of the cheaper cantrip spells, namely Growth Spiral , ...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

Hmm, you make a good point about the Control Magic effects. Treachery and Corrupted Conscience would both be reasonable cards. The latter giving infect to a giant doggy sounds pretty good. I had Bribery , Mass Manipulation , and Rite of Replication on my list of potentials, but all three ended up ge...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

I'll say this about the different play-styles and deck-building approaches: there's more than one way to build a commander deck, and if you think you have a good one, then go out and try it, and post the results here afterwards. On a different note, I proxied up a copy of the Shark-Nado today. We'll...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

That is all a very dangerous plan for a number of reasons. If you just assume that opponents will have the interaction you need/want, you're going to lose a lot of games by simply not having answers. The average Commander deck runs 35-40 lands and 20-25 creatures. Having played games with this deck...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

I feel like I'd probably rather put more focus on making sure I can play and connect with Pako to keep things moving along, rather than clutter up the deck with more side plans, but maybe that's just me. Between infinite turns with Seasons Past , Mystical Tutor , and Time Warp , or infinite combat ...

Whirlwind of Thought really sucks if you can't legally make white mana to cast it :)

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

Quick update: took out Helm of the Host for Simic Ascendancy . Did a little research on EDHREC and came up with a couple of alternate win-cons. Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't find too many options that seemed like solid fits for what this deck wants to do. Here's what I found: - Shark Typ...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

Easily the majority of the things I stole were lands I guess while playing this deck you can't really count on stealing cards that win you the game, but you CAN expect to get a really high number of lands. With this in mind, it would make sense to include either more land-based / 'landfall-type' ca...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

Got to play this deck last night, and for the most part it went exactly as expected. - The two all-stars were As Foretold and Jace, the Mind Sculptor . - As Foretold took a couple of turns to get started, but since there was a Blind Obedience across the way, I had the time to spare, and it ended up ...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

ZenN Can you elaborate more about your inclusion of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon ? It wasn't ever a card on my radar, so I'd love to know how it works for you. Glad to see that you were able to win via Simic Ascendancy . As much fun as it is to steal all manner of random things with Pako, I've usually h...

Made a couple of updates based on some quality feedback, replacing Mystic Sanctuary and most of the cantrips for some other staples.

Re: Kenrith and Zirda meme deck

There's a joke in here about 99 lands but a...never mind.

I feel like you need to put a bit more of a premium on white lands, since both Kenrith and Zirda are white. Then, maybe Emeria, the Sky Ruin could help you keep your two guys on the table.

Either way, this is hilarious.

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

Doh! Completely forgot to snow my basics...rookie mistake. Mystic Sanctuary was already on the fence for just that reason. It's probably better off as just another Island. Given that I am still three colors, despite absurd fixing options, I'm gonna start with just single-pip counters and go from the...

Re: Haldan and Pako: Man's Best Friend

When a critter has haste already I'd lean toward just using countermagic and instant speed effects to defend it. Feels a lit better than watching two people naturalize your greaves then kill your critter. Just my preference tho :) This is also my preference, and I'll be sure to put a blurb about th...

Re: What is going in your decks from C20 and Ikoria?

No one mentioned Haldan, Avid Arcanist / Pako, Arcane Retriever , I'm surprised. I used to have a Intet, the Dreamer deck, so I'm gonna try to incorporate a new version that could utilize the good doggie and Illuna together. I'm all for stealing cards from opponents. I proxies these two and sleeved...

Re: Yeva - play creatures, draw cards

I've had my Yeva list since she was first spoiled way back in 2013. Seedborn Muse is especially good here, since you can usually run out the Muse and then untap into Yeva. I've had a lot of fun recently with Wirewood Symbiote and Cloudstone Curio. I'll post a more in-depth review later.

Re: Your favourite "big dumb fatties" generals

My Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck (below) is all about getting fatties into play on the cheap, and it usually does a pretty good job of doing so. It's not too difficult to disrupt the general game plan, but it can be explosive early and it has a solid late-game where you can just hard-cast large bodies.

Blind Seer + Insight

Hello friends,

I have a Blind Seer and an Insight on the table. Can I activate the color-changing ability of my Blind Seer with a creature spell on the stack and turn it green so that I will draw a card when the creature spell resolves?

Re: What are your favourite mono-white and mono-blue generals?

My favorite Mono- Blue Commander is Blind Seer . The fact color hate exists makes the deck work and it lets me run sword of X and Y and make things unblockable which is a blast. Plus the addition of Painter's Servant Makes the deck hum a whole new tune. This might be the single greatest post I've e...

Re: What are your favourite mono-white and mono-blue generals?

I've had a lot of success with God-Eternal Oketra in mono-white. You can do lots of fun things with self-bouncing creatures, Soul Sisters, anthems, etc. It's certainly not the most absurdly powerful deck, but it can create a sizeable army. Conversely, mono-blue has been an eternal struggle for me. I...

Re: Lord Windgrace - League Deck

I really like the idea of only adding sealed products/trades into your decks as a mechanism for curbing changes. Like many others, my local group tried to do a league with this exact set of precons, and it wasn't great because the Lord was super strong and we all had pretty much everything we needed...

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I've had the Rakdos deck in my sig for a couple years now and it never fails to disappoint. Every set always has a brand-new red or black fatty, so it stays fresh pretty well. Just a thought.

Re: Kykar, Wind’s Fury

The thing with Elspeth is that you can make more and better tokens with Kykar for a lot less mana, and a six mana conditional wrath is iffy. Granted the wipe is more likely than not to work in the Kykar player's favor. I think there are many better uses for the card slot is all, and Kykar superfrie...
