Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Decimate
Heh. I just skipped Decimate when pondering which way to take my Atla Palani deck, exactly because that one missing target is so grindingly annoying when it happens. Doesn't happen often, and in a pinch you can destroy your own thing to be rid of something, but it's certainly not ideal.

Re: how many lands are enough?
I start from 36 or 37, then adjust as needed. Off the top of my head, my lowest is 33 with Athreos, though that deck is only 3 cmc or less as a deckbuilding challenge. My Polukranos, World Eater has 40, because it's all about ramping all them forests to battlefield. Pretty much all the rest of my de...

Re: How many cards per game does your commander represent?
A curious topic to think about. I generally dive in flavor-first, then some corner of game mechanics that satisfies me to build, and actual viability is somewhere a distant third. I do tend to lean towards commanders that aren't that much raw card draw, but rather a piece of some complicated engine ...

Re: Removal and Restrictions: An Analysis
Pretty good writeup, an interesting read to at least make me think about going through my decks and actually taking a stare at the amount and quality of removal I am running. I try to be sensible and/or on theme with my removal choices. However... I do admittedly have one bias though. The original a...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Lieutenant Cycle! (v1)
Heh. I'm currently building a partner ( Tana, the Bloodsower and Ravos, Soultender ) deck that's loosely themed around several mechanics that I haven't found a home for but do at points play together - Lieutenant, Monarch, Gates, other cards that want me to cast (and recast) my commanders. A creatur...

Re: What is going in your decks from C20 and Ikoria?
Even with keeping to my usual 'new cards only go to one deck'... I'm going to use lot. There's a lot of sweet stuff, in the commander decks in particular. Not to mention also making two new decks: Tayam, Luminous Enigma Saga/Curse grave-enchantress, and taking a 'I am a humanitarian' approach to Try...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sensei's Divining Top
I don't particularly like it, but that's more my playstyle: I prefer raw draw to topdeck manipulation and tutors. I'd rather have another piece of draw, removal or my gameplan. Granted, it's not helped by having played with some people who love their top and are indecisive. Seeing the thing just mak...

Re: Your favourite "big dumb fatties" generals
I'm not sure if I have a dedicated 'big dumb fatty' deck so much as I just spread my love of big beaters around almost every deck I have. Thinking about it, almost every deck has several things that are 1.) on theme for the deck and 2.) definitely qualify as a big dumb fatty whose primary purpose is...

Re: Zirda, the Dawnwaker (Let's Brew!)
Currently tooling Basandra + Zirda, and while I am just randomly going through our piles to see what I come up with, I seem to be leaning somewhat towards a go-wide, powered by the combination of cheaper activated abilities, and no one casting spells in combat. Fair amount of token makers out there ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
My first thought upon reading these two ultimatums "Yup, that's borked." I am open to being convinced otherwise, but 'oops, I win' isn't terribly engaging, no matter how tricky the mana cost. Song of Creation seems pretty fun tho. Fair amount of power, but a drawback you have to at least s...

Re: Unique/Original Blink Deck Ideas
My 'main' blink deck is Omnath, Locus of the Roil , which really mostly aims to repeatedly blink Ommy itself to kill people with. Doesn't really go infinite so much as create 10+ elementals and blink/copy/bounce and recast Omnath until results are sufficient. Any other etb elementals and the late-ga...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I like Jegantha a lot, though five-color without any double pips does make it pretty tricky to find a coherent plan of action besides toolboxing or goodstuff. My Ally deck would lose way too many good support cards (populate and copy effects, mostly). Some kind of charm-spellslinger with Ramos, perh...

'Tis an actually an idea to ponder, should I run out of deck-tuning to do. Guess I'll have to see how long it takes before one can head to the LGS again.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nevinyrral's Disk
Don't think it's currently in any deck of mine
Unless you're specifically building around recurring artifacts or wanting every 'nonland permanent' wrath out there, you probably have options.
The original art is cool tho, in a creepy twisted kind of way.

Re: Tayam, Luminous Enigma (Let's brew!)
Now that I think about it, leaning towards Saga/Curse/sac enchantress reanimation might be a thing. I have an enchantress deck, but it's more focused towards animating lands for fun and profit so the only overlap would likely be the enchantress effects themselves for draw...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I actually like the partners a lot here. They're all at least somewhat exploring new-ish territory for each wedge, and flavorwise I think they're pretty cool. Not the most powerful thing any of them, but I'll probably be fine if we don't get another case of something so universally powerful I'd be s...

Tayam, Luminous Enigma (Let's brew!)
Tayam, Luminous Enigma Been tossing this around since it was spoiled, and I find myself in a curious place... can't figure out which direction to go! This has a lot of potential directions, since 'have some creatures', 'have a decent chunk of your permanents be less than 3 cmc' and 'have some count...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Tayam, Luminous Enigma looks like fun. Two abilities with some synergy that are quietly good. Not obviously explosive, but very value-over-time that fuels a pretty great pile of permanents. Not-directly-obvious, with multiple directions to go. Isn't painting a huge target on itself since it'll like...

I haven't felt this big of a distance between my love of the flavor and my dislike of the mechanic since the werewolf mechanic of Innistrad first surfaced. I've always been a big werecreature geek, but in practice tracking "who cast what when" and constantly flipping the cards... is headac...

Re: Do you intentionally misplay/hold back?
I don't need to hold back my plays because I build my decks casually enough that if I actually get to go off with my untutored Rube Goldberg machine du jour I fricken deserve it. (I don't win a lot of games, heh.)
I will do the sub-par thing if it's entertaining, though, pretty much without fail.

Re: What's your most unusual commander and/or deck?
Tariel, Reckoner of Souls "persistent f*ckery". Spam manarocks, extort cards, effects that trigger when I cast any spell, big things that get bigger by the amount of artifacts I have, with Tariel as an alt-wincon/curve topper of sorts. Typical mid-lategame turn is casting a 3-mana rock, e...

Re: Is it worth it?
Biggest limiter for me is that I have a lot of decks (34 to be exact). Therefore, any single card's 'worth' is divvied up by the sheer amount of decks I have. I have a tendency to skip buying anything more than 5€ simply because I am not going to see any particular card in that's just in a single de...

Quick PSA: sometimes it's OK to be greedy
I tend to fall into the camp of not paying for these unless I have nothing better to do with my mana. In my experience, Rhystic Study tends to make the player casting into a bit of a target just due to sheer annoyance, and the Study itself gets blown up fairly fast. Regarding tempting offers, it dep...
