Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion

Surrak, the Hunt Caller - I'm sure you agree that the best case is that you cast a Grothama-killer on the turn prior to casting Grothama, and Hunted Troll and Consulate Dreadnought (+ a small 1/1 or bigger creature) are pretty much the only choices here. Surrak could be an additional haste enabler ...

SCD: Wheel of Fortune

The Judge foil Wheel of Fortune has gotten ridiculous. There are only three left on TCGp, around a thousand dollars each. I feel like it might be time to sell mine. I will literally never get another one if I let mine go, but I have a friend who is considering buying one, and this might be a good op...

Re: [Secret Lair] Secret Lair: Extra Life 2020.

Anyway, this product looks cool and has a great cause, but $60 for four cards? How about one or two more? C'mon, Wizards. I don't think it's asking too much. I still kinda want one, though. Maybe. I don't mind paying $60 for four cards when they're cards that I actually really want. I can use Tefer...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion

Hey Kyra Warsong , any thoughts on Battle for Zendikar - I mean, Zendikar Rising - additions? Bala Ged Recovery over a basic Forest seems like a gimme, but I'm on the fence about Turntimber Symbiosis, mostly because seven is a lot of mana, even though it's basically a no-cost include. Nothing else r...

Re: Shrine decks: can't live with 'em, can't stab their owners.

What say you, Nexus? Have you played against a shrine deck yet? Have you built one? Am I dickhead? Am I dickhead for other reasons and you want to get it off your chest? Let's hear it. I built one. I used to play Shrines in Standard back in the day, so I've had a soft spot for them forever. It's Si...

Re: 2XM: Toppers evaluation

A lot of stuff seems to be bouncing back just a few days after release. Cyclonic Rift had been down to $45, now it's back to $54. Academy Ruins was $20, and now it's $27. Tron pieces were $30, now they're $45. Jace was $110, now he's $145. I'm wondering if people snapped up some low listings and sta...

Re: 2XM: Toppers evaluation

Well, we've had a week for prices to shift a little, so here's where we're at now: Chrome Mox seems to be the biggest loser, sliding down to under $75, taking it from the fourth most valuable to the 17th. Sword of Body and Mind came in higher than I would have expected. Goblin Guide dropped into th...

My children eat hot dogs bunless, and they deglove the dog with their teeth. It's ghastly and horrific.

Re: Buying Staples

I am going to have to hold my Alliances FOWs for 10 years now, hoping they won't get reprinted. I guess the Alliances print isn't below $100 technically, but it likely will drop some or stay at that mark for quite some time. Lucky I wanted to play the card too, so at least my commander proxy is bac...

Re: 2XM: Toppers evaluation

As a note, I'd browsed through TCGp to see presale prices. I hadn't really done a deep dive, so some of the prices that I assumed were for nonfoils are actually for foils. Also, Avacyn is starting really, really high - $350. Now, I don't really believe that we live in a world where I can trade an Av...

Re: 2XM: Toppers evaluation

I probably should've defined "winner" and "loser" better. Winners break the $50 mark. Losers do not. So some cards like SOFI and SOFF will be winners, even if better versions exist. As far as why I'm so down on the four Tron pieces, right now foils are preselling on TCGp for abou...

2XM: Toppers evaluation

Hey there, it's your friendly mod SquirrelToken, and today I'd like to take a look at the box toppers of Double Masters (except we're going to look at the foil VIP pack versions - keep that in mind when I refer to "toppers"). We've got 39/40 spoiled at this point (although a couple of the ...

Re: Printing variations

Secret Lair Drop (This is the newest variation. They are going to print a large amount of these. Demand is high, margin is high, they cut out all of the middle men.) I'll nitpick this - we've really only seen a couple new cards in Secret Lair drops - Vraska and Gilded Goose. It's mostly been middle...

Tabernacle is reserve list. Barring a MAJOR shift in policy, we'll never see a reprint.

Re: Buying Staples

Looking for suggestions for buying a Tabernacle of Pendrell Vale now days? I was seeing prices in 2013 around $350, and today on eBay for example it's between $1,000-$1,700 (big ouch). My goal in a card like this would be both as a collection piece and for use as a legit proxy in my Azorius Grand A...

Re: Secret Lair: Summer Superdrop

I ended up not doing it. I don't like the new art on Ballista, so I think that I'll just wait until they ship and try to scoop up some of the original Ballistae (with better art) for my decks when people dump them in favor of the shiny newness.

OK, so here's a question over which I've been mulling lately. Should I buy a Secret Lair: Summer Superdrop? Here are some of my pros and cons: Pros: I like fetchlands I like Walking Ballista I like playing the stained-glass walker lottery Cons: $170 is a lot of money I do not NEED any of these cards...

Re: Grothama, All-Devouring - The Maw of Oblivion

I'm actually kind of blown away. It's hard for me to get my head around the fact that someone made a deck in paper - paid money and traded for cards - based on MY decklist. It's more than I ever hoped for when I started working on this. Maybe it's stupid, but that makes me feel really good. Thank y...
