Gonna let this one sit a couple more hours. Think it's a legit discussion.

Re: Faerie Miscreant
My best miscreant draft so far (in BO3): https://i.imgur.com/BzwbIeT.png (I certainly wouldn't play the crab today; this was back in week one). The big selling point here is that Miscreant number one on turn one (or two) still does a lot of work turning on the Pegasi. When I won games with this deck...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
(Sorry I'm a little behind schedule folks; busy Monday) Prismite is the pickup and our next pack is particularly picked-over in the upper rarities: Act of Treason Brightwood Tracker Epicure of Blood Fathom Fleet Cutthroat Glaring Aegis Growth Cycle Metropolis Sprite Mind Rot Negate Vial of Dragonfir...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
Beautiful. We can discard to our dino to ping with our pirate to pump our elementals and then give them double strike. Reminder that we're back to a 12 hour schedule for our next pack. Pretty typical pick 4 here. Filler, but discussable filler. Island Angelic Gift Duress Goblin Bird-Grabber Moment o...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
Gonna count Henlock's mention as support for Griffin and take it. (That said, I really think Chaplain is worth consideration. Void is entirely right about it filling an important slot. Something I'm actually noticing a lot in this format, especially playing BO1 drafts these last few days, is that a ...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
Not taking Executioner here seems to be a very strong commitment on our part to not playing white. If we're in red/white (or Naya) then executioner is a much, much better card than Spitfire. You can say we're putting off the decision on whether to play white or green to later in the pack but honestl...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
We pick up Axe, followed by the Duress at p1p15. After taking a moment to reflect we crack pack 2 and see what's in store: Mountain Centaur Courser Chandra's Embercat Frost Lynx Griffin Protector Healer of the Glade Mammoth Spider Moorland Inquisitor Netcaster Spider Scorch Spitter Soul Salvage Chan...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
We pick up moment and find: Bloodthirsty Aerialist Marauder's Axe Not bad! As we saw earlier this pack was actually strictly playable commons (+Kethis the Hidden Hand lol) but it's still nice to find the Axe . I'll leave that up as the default and then go reorganize my spreadsheet, generate new pack...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
Season it is. Red continues to be open: Mountain Duress Maniacal Rage Ripscale Predator As I don't particularly enjoy setting out to get 2-for-1'd Ripscale Predator will be the default pick. I'm moving the "cards drafted so far" spoiler to my signature, both to make my job easier and to ad...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
We pick up Healer. I'm pretty dubious about the claim that this guy protects us from early pressure. Most of the aggro strategies in the format are super evasive or really wide. I think it's the pick, but I won't be happy if it makes our 40. Pack 10 comes around with... well some money at least: Mou...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
This is definitely a classic "what's good vs what's awesome" situation. I don't think the dragon is *really* playable - 7 is a silly amount to pay even for a 5/5 flier and the ability is usually a drawback - but hitting for the full 12 with buccaneer would be awesome. One of the NPCs in th...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
I think they're all highly defensible and I'm glad we're getting interesting decisions this far in but majority favors Sedge Scorpion . Personally I'm with Dusk here: this thing (and its black equivalent) have done huge work for me as 1/1s. Our first pack comes back to us with the expected wheel. Ar...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
We're solidly in red with Scorch Spitter, Uncaged Fury, Chandra's Spitfire, and Glint-Horn Buccaneer. We have one white card (Pacifism), one green/white card (Ironroot Warlord) and a Meteor Golem.

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
We pick up Temur Battle Rage Uncaged Fury and vividly remember the finals of GP San Jose 2015 . Gotta have a plan. The final pack before the wheel gives us a red spell reprinted from the height of the "common removal should be at 5" era and a few reasonable picks still pulling in green and...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
Things start to come together as we pick up Scorch Spitter. I've had solid games with this little guy! I've found my more aggressive red decks, when they win, get in for exactly 20 or 21 just as everything collapses. Single points of damage make a huge difference. I also like how he matches up again...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
(Has anybody been able to make Meteor Golem / Renowned Weaponsmith happen for them yet? Def on my bucket list for this set) Staying open on color with an eye to go big we take Meteor Golem in pack 5 and find a mythic(!...?) waiting for us in 6: Dismal Backwater Fathom Fleet Cutthroat Inspiring Capta...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
I do like Sentry. Consider that Barony Vampire , Bastion Enforcer and Fearless Halberdier are all in the set and we're getting huge value added without a rarity shift. That's definitely worth our consideration. I do think it's a more specialized card then it appear though. Given that there are 27 di...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
While waiting on another reply here, can you explain why you're looking at Sentry? I'll give you that it's certainly the best white card in the pack but I'd like to see us compare it to Chandra's Spitfire and Mammoth Spider, at the very least.

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
I like your moxie folks! (Personally I think this is an interesting pick signals-wise. If we don't take the Warlord here then we're sending it to a guy who we've already given prey upon, pacifism, and the earlier gorilla. We have to assume there's a solid chance he's taking the warlord, then, and cu...

Re: Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica
Depends on what kind of rules, if anything I'd like to see what kind of classes they made. To my understanding, did they make a few classes for each guild? Fifth edition has a fixed number of classes. They haven't added an official class since the original Player's Handbook and right now it looks l...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
(As an aside, LSV said on Limited Resources today that he's taking Lavakin Brawler over pacifism, putting a huge premium on synergy, proactive approach and red as a color over a stand alone white value card. Makes me a little more confident in yesterday's pick.) There are only two cards in this pack...

Re: Overrated or Underrated?
Ok, let's run with this. Core 2020 is ostensibly a set where you can be rewarded for playing three-color wedges. Going to three color is facilitated by 10 common dual lands and cards like Gift and scuttlemutt . It's paid off in the three color legendary creatures ( Kaalia, Zenith Seeker , Omnth, Loc...

Overrated or Underrated?
Let's try a classic. We've been playing with Core 2020 for a week now and we already have people coming forward with opinions in the form of set reviews, initial impressions articles and podcasts, and pick orders. How does you experience stack up against the wisdom of the crowd? Let's find out. I'll...

Re: Core 2020 Draft - Bread and Butter
Damn, looks like an interesting pack Yeah! So I didn't stack the packs or anything, but after the eight were generated I took the one that looked the most interesting for our seat. The top 4 cards in this pack all had the same rating - a 3.5 - in LSV's limited set reviews. Their rankings are tight ...
