Re: [SCD] Sand Scout
Fully agree that it's really good and hasn't received the equivalent attention yet. In my mono white Adeline deck I've added Shefet Dunes , Scavenger Grounds and Arid Archway to be able to play it; I'm already playing Loyal Warhound and Knight of the White Orchid . To make room I've cut a basic plai...

Re: [MCD] Typed Land Packages
Nice reference thread for land types. With Thunder Junction there are more desert matter cards that I'd add to notable support cards in Sand Scout and Cataclysmic Prospecting . I can see running Sand Scout and Map the Frontier with Arid Archway , Scavenger Grounds , and the untapped deserts like Ha...

Re: Mardu Shops (Tymna-Akiri Artifacts)
I've been considering building a version of this deck with Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter to abuse the interaction between Immovable Rod and Clock of Omens . Do you think Mardu is the right color combo to pull that off or should I look for something with Blue for Trinket Mage , etc? I've never played a ...

Re: Mardu Shops (Tymna-Akiri Artifacts)
Thanks and great to hear - it's still one of my favorite EDH decks too after years of playing it! I've played with Fire Covenant before as it's a great card but cut it due to all the life loss adding up and often becoming a bit of a target. One recent addition to my list in a similar vein has been D...

Re: The Way of the One True Warrior - Kellan Equipment Toolbox [brainstorming]
It might be worth considering Weathered Wayfarer given some of the toolbox options in your mana base, although it doesn't fit in the curve that well. I think you could also consider Footfall Crater over one of the two one drop haste givers. The additional evasion, cycling, ability to tutor it, and b...

Would Ruby, Daring Tracker get +2/+2 from its ability if it's enchanted by Tahngarth's Rage? Many thanks!

Mono color basic land choice
I'm working on foiling my Adeline, Resplendent Cathar , and have been considering what would look best with regards to basic lands, I.e., all different ones, several different ones, only old border/new border or mixed, only full art/mixed, etc. I've found it more of a struggle for a mono color deck,...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I have somewhat mixed feelings re: the Praetors so far - they're pretty hard to evaluate. Looking only at the front sides: Elesh Norn I'm pretty low on - Norn's Annex is a significantly weaker effect than Ghostly Prison , and I'd almost prefer Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker (who I do not consider to b...

Re: Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful & Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder
One thing you could also consider is having Vial Smasher as a partner, allowing you to have Mardu colors and include a broader swath of (stronger) legendaries whilst keeping the Yoshimaru/aggressive nature of the deck intact.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Tithe
In my area I barely see it played (partially due to not knowing about it), and I think people in general underestimate it. I think it has a place in almost every white deck, whether mono or with other colors; fetching duals and non basics makes it much more widely applicable than Land Tax.

Re: How many lands is correct (on average)?
For me it really depends - I have decks that are as low as 30-32 ( Tymna , Adeline ) which have very low curves and/or lots of draw power and ramp. But I also decks with 40-42 lands with almost no artifact ramp. In a typical EDH deck I would not play more than circa 46 mana sources - with addition o...

For me Ravnica and Onslaught. Onslaught was where I started playing and I have fond memories playing casual then. And Ravnica with the new guilds was amazing fun and very new.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Tomik, Distinguished Advokist
Tomik could be useful in a Yoshimaru deck as a turn two legendary drop with good stats allowing it to attack and carry equipment as well. That said, even there he probably only makes the cut in monowhite as otherwise you have enough more useful options. But I can most see him in a non green lands fo...

Re: Is White getting better?
Fully agree with all the comments that have been posted in this thread already. Building upon that, white suffers very much in the 4-6 cmc cards that you can ramp out easily with artifact ramp. Because of white's focus on small creatures and impact in standard, cards in the <=3 cmc will often be und...

Re: Mardu Shops (Tymna-Akiri Artifacts)
Some major updates for the list with the cards from Modern Horizons 2 and thereafter. In particular Urza's Saga , Grim Hireling and Angel of the Ruins are great upgrades. + Esper Sentinel + Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer + Rabbit Battery + Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp + Enlightened Tutor + Oswald Fiddlebender +...

Re: Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful & Jeska, Thrice Reborn
Mother of Runes is also worth trying, even though it has some sequencing difficulties. But (manaless) protection is so valuable that I think it is still worth it. I would really play Stoneforge Mystic though; it can always grab a 1 cmc legendary permanent with Shadowspear , which also gives Yoshima...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cranial Plating
It's an absolutely amazing card, and one of the strongest artifact synergies in black with Marionette Master . It makes the commander of an artifact deck a large threat at instant speed. It also combines very well with Inkmoth Nexus , which is in any case a staple in any artifact deck with Arcbound ...

Re: Lurrus: A Nightmare in Silver
Soul-Guide Lantern and Urza's Bauble seem really good here. I would also second Marionette Master , there are few better payoffs in artifact builds and it's a great win condition. I would replace Tainted Field with a basic, with only eleven swamps I think it will often not be on. Some equipment tut...

Re: Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful & Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh
So, with that in mind, I think I am going to try the below for the "final" cuts to move this into a Jeska/Yoshimaru deck. Rograkh will still be in the 99 for now as Skullclamp fodder as well as a free trigger for Yoshimaru and the Vampire. I will go also update the main post as I think I ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ranger of Eos
Although Ranger-Captain of Eos is better, there's sufficient selection of targets now to make Ranger of Eos a good include in various creature focused mono white and Boros decks. Aside from the good targets already mentioned, in Boros it fetches Ragavan, Goblin Welder, and Skirk Prospector.

Re: Current state of mono white and Azorius
I think mono white suffers from two main problems (omitting the fundamental weakness of the color in card advantage and ramp): 1) efficient commanders that play into the colors main strengths and help provide card advantage and tempo. The color lacks a good enchantment general, but also lacks an equ...

Re: Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful & Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh
Yes, I think Yoshamaru really allows for a lot of different directions and strategies dependent on the build and partner. Very excited to play with it. Recruiters and Ranger-Captain of Eos are musts I think in any build, because of how important it is to find cards like Kediss, Norin, Kari Zev, and ...

Re: Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful & Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh
I was brainstorming a bit this afternoon and I came up with the following (with Jeska as the partner), to maximize quick wins: Commander - 2 1 Yoshamaru, Ever Faithful 2 Jeska, Thrice Reborn Lands – 34 1 Marsh Flats 2 Bloodstained Mire 3 Windswept Heath 4 Arid Mesa 5 Flooded Strand 6 Wooded Foothill...

Re: Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful & Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh
I feel like you'd get more mileage out of Kediss as a partner rather than Rograkh. Kediss also allows you to attack for minimum two from turn two onwards, but seems a lot more impactful otherwise. Chrome Mox , Mox Diamond and potentially Lotus Petal seem like powerful adds. Playing Yoshamaru off of ...

Re: Marchesa, the Black Rose: Affinity
I'm also very excited for Rabbit Battery , think it is deceptively powerful as both a cheap artifact creature that can flexibly and cheaply grant haste. Is Wurmcoil Engine better than Myr Battlesphere ? I've found the second to be more impactful on the board, especially with ways such as dethrone to...
