Re: I'm in a rut and I haven't seen a new commander that really speaks to me in ages.
I think you could also consider Winota, Joiner of Forces with a hatebear shell. This will play quite differently, and you can include various hatebears to slow down combo decks whilst having a clock and not going full stax. As some others have mentioned, UW control could be something worth consideri...

Re: [discussion] White in C21 + Strixhaven
Especially in this day and age, where most people are trying to win in a single turn rather than eliminate their foes one at a time, by beating them to death as Richard Gardfield intended. If someone wants to say "SR sucks because it's bad at 1v1" then like...sure, if that's a thing that ...

Re: [discussion] White in C21 + Strixhaven
Very relevant: Gavin + Ari talking about White (in Strixhaven, EDH, and elsewhere) Some highlights: If white can set a rule to prevent something, it can also draw cards / generate treasure if that rule is broken (ex: Rule of Law → Monologue Tax / Mangara of Corondor ) Professor of Symbology - white...

[*] Scholarship Sponsor - I'm looking forward to playing this in non-green white decks. I think it will not be difficult to get the most out ornithischians spell, even if one or two opponents also profit a bit. I look forward to playing it with Scorched Ruins and Lotus Field [*] Archaeomancer's Map ...

Re: Your top 10 (non-commander) cards
My top ten in no particular order ( I definitely missed a couple) Intuition - I have always liked the choices and gameplay this enables, and the designing of the right piles for the situation. Life from the Loam - a very strong engine and is also very versatile High Market - it's relatively low impa...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Forsake the Worldly
I think this fits very closely the definition of a 101th card. Quite playable, will never be actively bad with cycling, but never makes it into the main deck (except in a cycling archetype).

Re: Totally non-bias opinions only ;) how would cEDH react to banning the top tutors?
I would not be against banning tutors per se as they lead to slower gameplay and higher consistency, and therefore less variety in games and a greater tendency to focus on (infinite) combos. That said, the problem with banning tutors is that the impact on the format is very lopsided as the two best ...

Re: Quintorius: Making History Come Alive
With respect to the questions, I think indeed you will struggle for space with both Sunforger and Salvaging Station packages. I think the second has more synergy with your deck, and without ways to make more use of Sunforger (equip cost reducers, etc.) it will be a slow engine in any case. Cutting S...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Archaeomancer's Map seems like a strong card indeed. Having a floor as a slow Tithe is fine, and if there's a green ramp player at the table it can ramp you quite a bit too. I also like how it plays well with the other land search effects in white, in particular Weathered Wayfarer , where you could...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I kind of love the flavor of Monologue Tax . Oh my god, some people with their %$#%$#% eternal turns... From the flavor side it is very disappointing that it does not trigger for spells after the second. The way it's written you will likely only get 1-2 treasures out of it per turn cycle, at which ...

Re: Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?
Didn't answer the poll because "other" wasn't an option. I would like to see "outside the game" allow wishes/learn to pull from exile. So, if you really want that wish-for-a-color-hoser, you'll need to eat a spot in the 99, pack effects to exile it, then wish it up. Otherwise, i...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I think Rip Apart still has a place in Boros though, even at sorcery speed. Hitting four permanent types at cmc 2 makes it relevant at all points of the game, and Boros does not have as much flexible removal as some other color combinations (although it has a lot of efficient targeted effects). I th...

Re: Mardu Shops (Tymna-Akiri Artifacts)
Thanks for the explanation! I do have a sword of feast and famine so for now I'll add that in as a test slot and see how it performs, and how often I'm searching for it with Stoneforge Mystic. I'll also check if I wish it was a Shadowspear instead when I draw/tutor for it to compare the two.

Re: Hanna, Ship's Navigator - Prison Break
I really like your deck and the depth of your write-up, thanks for posting it! Have you tried Back to Basics ? It's one of the strongest hate cards and your list can support it quite well I think. If you do add it, I would cut Prahv, Spires of Order , Arcane Lighthouse , and Temple of Enlightenment ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Faithless Looting
In mono red I'd play it in any list I think, even without any graveyard synergies. In other color combinations it has more competition, but at the same time there are a lot more graveyard interactions that it can support. So in decks with those interactions it's probably one of the best cards in you...

Re: Mardu Shops (Tymna-Akiri Artifacts)
Thanks for your post! I've had swords in there before and I can imagine adding one back again; I also feel like three equipment is on the short side for Stoneforge Mystic . What I was struggling with was that the five mana investment was significant and that they compete with Tymna on the curve. In ...

Re: Mardu Shops (Tymna-Akiri Artifacts)
Time for an update with the latest sets - lots of changes! Changes: + Agadeem's Awakening - added as a flexible extra land / recursion element. + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth - added as an extra land to support the mana base. + Jeweled Lotus - this plays well into the deck's artifact theme and allows fo...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I haven't felt that way either, most of the chosen cards look really good in the old border. I'm definitely looking forward to replacing a lot of cards in my decks/collections with these.
The selection is also positive, with the majority being highly playable in EDH.

Re: Rakdos the Defiler - Reckless Aggression
Sorry, had mixed up Repay in Kind and the life swapping effects indeed. That said I would still consider Tainted Remedy over Rain of Gore , as not preventing lifegain from lifelink is a pretty big drawback, given it's one of the most common sources of lifegain. If you check the gatherer page for Rai...

Re: Rakdos the Defiler - Reckless Aggression
Rakdos suicide is a very fun archetype, so I'm sure you're deck is also a lot of fun to play. Some considerations: Entomb seems like a great fit here with reanimation spells and great targets. In line with Entomb I also think Kroxa would be a good add, as a resilient threat. You're playing Rain of G...

Witherbloom one ain't at all crap. I mean I've cast Regrowth to pick up a land before, pretty sure this card is better than that =P I don't think it should've been instant either, there'd be circumstances where it could kill two permanents at instant speed and you're only spending two mana... Re: Favorite Engines in your Decks
Lurrus of the Dream-Den and Scrap Trawler are two of my favorites for artifacts decks, they enable so many strong play sequences when combined with sacrifice outlets/payoffs. Yawgmoth, Thran Physician can also really tie a deck together as it has so many different synergies. Although not that power...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I think Prismari Command is the best of the five. Kolaghan's Command has always impressed through the usefulness of Shatter/Shock/Disentomb, and I think this will be similar with Careful Study as the third mode. Lorehold Command could have costed 4, but it at least has impactful modes and will alway...

Re: Of Prices and "Playtest Cards"
Proxies are a good way for people to play with key RL cards and I have also seen this become more common as the RL has increased in price. Banning the reserved list due to price bans a lot of cards unnecessarily and sets a bad precedent (as there are also quite some expensive non-RL cards). One of t...
