Re: Garbage Elemental

Consider this: A normal distribution of cards has 1 copy of each mythic to 2 copies of each rare to 4 copies of each uncommon and 8 of each rare. With Garbage Elemental having 6 variations, that means that each specific version is actually rarer than any specific mythic. Garbage Elemental C and D ar...

Re: Magic Direct from Hasbro Web Store

When will Hasbro sell stuff directly? They basically already are, though they use Amazon for fulfillment because why reinvent the wheel? But that's just for selling in-print sets. Secret Lairs are their first real crack at print to demand stuff, and I doubt they can get much more granular than that....

Re: Oracle's Shift

I'm not certain how much this needs to be a Sol Land deck of any type. You aren't running things like Chalice, 3sphere, or Back to Basics to really take advantage of generating 2-3 mana on turn one. Your most efficient iteration of the combo requires 1UUU (shift + oracle), and your only double-color...

Re: Prerelease Price Increase

It's honestly pretty wild that the MSRP for a (draft) pack has remained $4 since what, 2006? Especially with recent increases in global shipping costs due to the pandemic and other factors, their margins on draft packs have probably gotten increasingly slim. Sure, they've been shifting focus to Set ...

Re: What are some of your misses?

Gnarlwood Dryad is one of those cards that looked like it should be good because it mirrors Nimble Mongoose , which was good. But Mongoose hasn't actually been great in a while. It got reprinted into Modern in Modern Horizons and has shown up in exactly zero notable decks ever (per mtgtop8). There's...

Re: Two-Color God Weapons

For Spindle [sym=rg] I was considering something like Gruul Spellbreaker and various Red/Green cards that make your things uncounterable like Vexing Shusher . Green's gotten cards like Dosan the Falling Leaf and City of Solitude , while Red gets stuff like War's Toll and Price of Glory which can mak...

Re: If you had to fit World of Warcraft classes to Magic Colors, how would you do it?

Seems like two-color pairs might be better than three-color pairs. Three colors is traditionally fairly hard to flavor. We can figure out the primary colors fairly easily: Warrior - R Hunter - G Paladin - W Priest - W Mage - U Warlock - B Shaman - G Druid - G Rogue - B Monk - W Secondary colors beco...

Re: Let's Talk MTGO Redemption Sets

The problem is Wizards doesn't "sell" redemption sets. And they have no intention of ever "selling" a product like it. The main reason being in undermines the core concept of how their product is currently distributed. Though the main reason they would never do this is that it w...

Let's Talk MTGO Redemption Sets

I'll be the first person to admit, I'm definitely something of a whale for M:TG. My long-term goal is to collect one of every uniquely-named card, and I'm actually fairly far along in doing so. By my estimates, it'll take another ~2-3 years to backfill most of the missing stuff from my collection wh...

Re: Khans fetch lands and Darkslick Shors

Yeah allied fetches are on the upswing right now because enemy fetches are at lows they haven't hit since before Modern existed. There's no indication if or when they plan to print them again. I could see a secret lair ultimate edition with them maybe, but that barely moved the needle. They've shown...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Yeah, I dunno. Between Snow Full Arts in MH1, Theros full art Pokemon Energy, Zendikar Rising full arts, special Snow Frame basics in Kaldheim, and AFR D&D Flavor Text basics, it feels like we've been really inundated with "special" basic lands lately, to the point where it's hard to g...

Woah, I hadn't seen the new full art basics yet. Those are stunning, holy cow.
They're definitely interesting, but at this point we've seen full-art basic lands like minimum twice a year for the past several years. At this point, it feels like they've lost a lot of their novelty.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I'm hoping at some point we get a Snuff Out update that trades "can't be regenerated" for hitting any creature. That's always been on my list of undervalued removal, especially in Commander.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

My point was less about the specific combos involved, and more "you have such control over the game that you can make it back to your upkeep/draw step with a fragile creature in play that has a 'kill me now' sign on it". Sure, you can refill your hand any number of ways... but that still ...

Re: Ebondeath, Dracolich (brainstorming)

@wildfire393 - I did notice thrall on edhrec, forgot about boneyard scourge. Scourge of nel toth seems less useful. If you're sacking ebondeath it's all pretty expensive. Of course it could be good in a deck with bloodghast and all the usual suspects, but that's not really what I'm interested in fo...

Re: Ebondeath, Dracolich (brainstorming)

When I see a self-recursive dragon legend, my mind jumps to three cards; Boneyard Scourge, Bladewing's Thrall, and Scourge of Nel Toth. I've been trying for a long time to craft a shell wherein these cards do something together. Maybe Ebondeath is that shell. Probably not though.

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

Timetwister could probably get the axe, if for no other reason than every other single piece of power is banned for "perceived barrier to entry" reasons for being ungodly expensive, ubiquitous, and iconic. Twister is now worth more than any other single piece of power besides Black Lotus,...

Re: MH2 Pull Rate Breakdown

Yeah, they got me pretty good with the Collector Boosters. Back in Throne of Eldraine they had a buy-a-box promotion where you'd get one for free. And my first one had a Showcase Murderous Rider // Swift End and an extended art Robber of the Rich . And at pre-release prices, that was like $80 worth...

Re: Sheldon's throwaway comment about banning wheels

So the way I see it, there's basically no world in which actual factual Wheel of Fortune should reasonably be banned. Sure, it interacts poorly with Hullbreacher, Narset, Notion Thief, and maybe a couple of other cards. But Wheels are one of Red's few big advantages in the game. They are absolutely ...

yeah I suppose its important to note that I won't buy the collectors packs (even though im very much a collector). it only took the first time opening one for the price they put them at and it gave me a super bad open moment and that is that. I like to think that I will only grab the "electrif...

With Modern Horizons having roughly eight billion different premium treatments, along with multiple booster types, it can be difficult to figure out what you can actually expect out of any given box. We're operating on two assumptions here, based off of previous Booster Fun treatments: A showcase ca...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

The MH2 Dev team seems to have a soft spot for Odyssey block. I wonder if we will see a homage to Psychatog or a reprint. There's still room for it in the reprints section, last I checked. Given some of the other decisions they've been making, I could definitely see it. It fits the UB theme for lim...

Re: Mindbreak Trap

If you're not using them, I'd recommend selling. It's a card without an absurdly high demand, being a fringe sideboard card in a couple of Legacy/Modern decks and barely played in Commander. It's not RL and it has only one printing, meaning it's a likely target to find itself in a random The List se...
