Re: What are your aesthetic hang-ups?
Card art is critical. Like the OP, I won't build a general whose art I despise. In the 99, it matters less. Yeah, Najeela, the Blade-Blossom is the closest I've come to maintaining a deck for a general with art I don't love (it's not bad, it's just... meh). I envy people who don't have that weird h...

Re: Problem Commanders: Do You Play Them?
I don't mind playing 'problematic' generals, and I'll gladly run them when they fit whatever it is I'm trying to do (or they've got pretty art  ). Even in my current line up I have Kenrith/Golos/Jodah, and Yuriko. Kenrith/Golos/Jodah is actually a super fair deck, it's just legendary tribal. Y...

Re: What are your aesthetic hang-ups?
Cards have art? That is me saying not in the slightest. I play cards for what they do. They do! And it'll be a cold, cold day in hell before I run a general like Wrexial, the Risen Deep (sorry Wrexial fans) or anything prominently featuring bugs in the art. I get it though, there are things I know ...

What are your aesthetic hang-ups?
This is a point that's come up a lot when I've been talking to other moderators about decks, due to my own weird preferences but I'm curious. How much does the looks of your cards factor in to your decks? For commanders, or even for the 99. Things like art, border style, color, etc. And more importa...

Re: Commander Ban List Update - No Changes
No, but it does have partner as well as cards built for EDH, the later of which tends to have some power level issues baked in, though WotC has been better about that lately. That was more a separate comment to my disappointment.

Re: Commander Ban List Update - No Changes
Disappointing but predictable. I was still hoping to see an eventual update to see companion (the mechanic, not the cards) go and stay go, but that's probably a fool's hope. ------------ If there's going to be a problem child that needs to be addressed in the future, we probably won't see a banlist ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I'm excited for Anowon, the Ruin Thief. I think I'll shift Yuriko over to him. He's not nearly as good, but being less backbreaking is a positive in addition to getting to use all of the cute rogue and mill cards I've been sitting on.

Re: Mark Lawrence I'd agree that Broken Empire is easily his weakest series, but I thought his other two trilogies were well done. Book of the Ancestor in particular was really good, imo. Even though I quite liked the trilogy by the end, I do 100% get why people hate Broken Empire, however. I just w...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
It's very weird to me to hear ASOIAF describe as having graphic sexual content. I'd definitely not disagree with that in regards to the show, but the books were... well, GRRM is not good at that sort of scene other than writing that they happened. Lots of fade to black/quick mentioned in passing. Gr...

Re: Lovisa Coldeyes, the Barbarian Queen
It's been a minute since I've really been able to update this deck, due to how crazy the world has been, but I just wanted to drop in with a list of cards I'm looking to test once I'm able to really play magic again. :) Fiery Emancipation - For obvious reasons. I'm not sure if it's just win more, bu...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
Seems pretty accurate. You could split things further a little - grimdark and noblebright are what you're referring to here and they are probably the lion's share. There's also flintlock (see Brian McClellan and a couple others), weird fiction (China Mieville) historical or historical influenced an...

Can't speak to that having not read a lot of Jordan (I tuned out 1/4 of the way through the first WoT), but Sanderson's romances have always seemed pretty wooden to me. Although I guess in terms of feminine attitudes a lot of his female characters are pretty strong individuals, so....pros and cons ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
Sanderson rightfully inherited the void that Robert Jordan left, imo, and I've ALWAYS been impressed with his prose, world-building, and his characters. He is one of the authors whom I'm actively pursuing in acquiring their bibliography. I sincerely hope he didn't also inherit Jordan's fascination ...

I really wish his last ability weren't so... narrow. Having it at least proc off of any damage would fit in a lot better with the deathtouch theme.

I'm going to be locking this. This really isn't the website to pitch your political ideals. Thanks everyone for the suggestion, I decide on the first law trilogy, because I found the whole trilogy in paperback delivered this evening for 30 euros. not-a-cube The Riyria series by Michael J. Sullivain are all great reads for that kind of thing. There's the main series, called the Riyria Revelations, a direct prequal series about the main characters, called Riyria Chronicles, and a even more prequal series called the Legends of the First Empire...

It's also going to depend on genre. For people who want an old school high fantasy epic, LotR is going to win out every time. For people who prefer gritty military fantasy (and, it should be noted that while the scope of the Malazan series could qualify it as an epic, the narration isn't really set ...

How has this deck worked out for you so far? I'm still getting my list organised and collated, but that's slow work around a 9 week old baby. I'd be pretty keen to hear how things have worked out and what the cutest nightmare beast ever is like to pilot :) MeowZeDung Unfortunately, I have no news t...
