Re: Y'all are building Liesa wrong

This seems like an interesting discussion, but it seems to me as well that it is going in the wrong direction. I do agree that there isn't only one right way to build a deck around a commander, however, it is hard to ignore the fact that she is a group slug commander. With that being said, I don't u...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Angels & Demons Midrange (WIP)

I always thought group slug is the best way for Liesa to operate - pure life gain and tribal shenanigans always ended up performing pretty inconsistently. Fraying Omnipotence is simply a bomb paired up with Wound Reflection , Rog. :D This is my build: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/GyzeufjtJUOpAz4Az...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Life Gain and Loss

I'd like to hear more about your experiences with Rule of Law in a Liesa build. It seems counterintuitive to play a card that restricts the number of spells opponents can play thus making them lose 2 life, instead of 4, 6, etc. I was thinking about adding it to my build, but adding such card really ...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Life Gain and Loss

I'm testing it out at the moment, since I see the potential behind the card that can provide a wide board. From my experience so far, it seems to me that Liesa decks can benefit off of cards that widen board presence either offensively or defensively - because decks that go really wide can mess her ...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Life Gain and Loss

I'm curious whether anyone has tried out Luminarch Ascension? It's great early game, but it puts a huge target on one's back and its late game usefulness is very limited.

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I did some testing and it surprised me how well Pontiff of Blight plays. It netted me some huge chunks of life throughout two games. Regarding extort - did you mean if I can extort 2 times at my opponent's turn? 2 extorts usually give 6 life and If I'm playing against 2 opponents, they'll give me 4 ...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

Short update: I took Syr Konrad, the Grim out for Rhox Faithmender . I figured the life gain part needed some boost and after 6 rounds of irl testing the deck works even better. I took out Arguel's Blood Fast // Temple of Aclazotz for Angelic Accord and we'll see how it goes. My main idea with AA is...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

Dismantling Wave is an amazing card, often overlooked. It has some nice political value too - you can just destroy 2 artifacts/enchantments, spare one opponent and not destroy his thing, making a friend in the process. Spending 8 mana to blow up all the artifacts/ enchantments is subpar, but hey, i...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

Hagra Mauling // Hagra Broodpit is really good. It gets even better with Bolas' Citadel out, but by itself, I think you can never go wrong with MDFCs if their effect is at least playable. If I were you, I'd remove Path to Exile too. Giving an opponent a free land just seems like too big of a drawba...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I think it is pretty cool how you can build one commander in so many ways, following so many diverse strategies. So you are happy with Hero's Blade? So far Mangara, Konrad and Pontiff have proven really good. I am pretty happy with them. Removing Heliod and WB was a right decision. Blood Pact took D...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I came to a conclusion that running Heliod, Sun-Crowned and Walking Ballista means I am actually running 14 creatures total and that seems to me like a low number. Furthermore, running those two seems like I am breaking the synergy of my deck, since they are practically dead without each other. The ...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I was just about to mention Secret Rendezvous today, since I wanted to hear your opinion on it. I actually think the card might work, especially if I'm making a group slug deck which is pissing everybody off equally haha. As for Tithe/ Gift of Estates, I tried it today and then I remembered why I to...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

So, I tested Necrologia . It seemed clunky... The end step part hurts the card a lot, sadly. :/ I am testing Blood Pact now. The card isn't anything great, nor is it flashy, but the simplicity of the card and the fact that it is at instant speed is something I really like. Gift of Estates is an opti...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I thought that around 10 would be enough, then I bumped it up more and ended up with 15, but I should probably add at least 1 or 2 more. I've heard of the card, I will proxy it and test it. It being an instant spell is a huge upside, but the end step clause seems problematic and almost negates that ...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I think as long as you have life gain pay offs and you are playing against creature heavy decks that small incremental life gain is great and will net you lots of life. In less creature heavy metas/ combo/ control/ stax metas or a combination of the listed I would say it is better to go with cards t...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

Oh yes, enchantments get me to 5+ devotion easily. Cards like Sanguine Bond, Necropotence, Bolas' Citadel, Oubliette and Painful Quandary help a lot. Heliod on the other hand is never a creature, but I don't mind since he is first and foremost a combo piece with Walking Ballista and his second use i...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

The reasons I prefer Erebos a bit more are because it is pretty hard to remove him and when my devotion gets to 5+ he is good as an attacker or a blocker and of course, the draw power part is pretty important because of Bolas' Citadel and actually in general, the deck really needs consistency. But, ...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

Have you thought of trying out Tainted Remedy and/or Duelist's Heritage ? Since you're running Beacon of Immortality , Congregate , and Heliod's Intervention you could target an opponent with either and they'd lose that life instead with Tainted Remedy on the board. You're also running Heliod, so y...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

Yeah, Onyx is a bit hard to keep on board, since I don't run that many creatures and small creature count means I am running the risk of not being able to defend her. Syr Konrad is great with board wipes, though, but I agree with you that I should minimise as much as possible the reliance on somebod...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

How did the playtesting go? I am having my doubts regarding some cards in my deck: Professor Onyx - she has awesome effects, which fit the group slug theme, but problems are she has to be defended with creatures which I don't run many of. Maybe just go with Children of Korlis to make some flexible l...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

No problem, if my posts are even a little bit inspiring, I'm glad. :D

Champion's Helm is a card I was considering and I will probably get one if they reprint it or the price drops. At the moment, it is a bit too expensive for what it does, I agree with you.

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I just wanted to share my two cents about certain cards/ topics: Voltron subtype - I have to agree on that, since Liesa is easily castable over and over again, making her somewhat of a voltron commander is a viable and an effective strategy. Cards like Blackblade Reforged, Hatred, Unspeakable Symbol...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I have to agree completely - Liesa is really tough to build, I've been building her for the last 6 months so I feel you completely, haha. I'm glad you mentioned Grand Abolisher. How did you like it in your build? That reminded me, regarding ramp, many Liesa lists on Moxfield run so little and I can'...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

I'm not running any of those two, but I used to when my build was more Angel-centric, you know, with Angel of Destiny, Valkyrie Harbinger, Angelic Accord, Righteous Valkyrie and Book of Exalted Deeds. As for Blighted Steppe, I took it out for War Room, but now that you reminded me, what do you think...

Re: Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - Orzhov Midrange

How has your experience with Bloodchief Ascension been? I've proxied it before and sometimes it's absolutely dominant, but other times it doesn't get very far. It's a weird one for me. Also, I had Stinging Study in and it can be really good, but other times it's just too much mana and sits in my ha...
