Re: Volrath Proliferate

I realize that our two Volrath decks are very different, but I think you should absolutely consider Bow of Nylea. It's a versatile value engine all on its own. Forgotten Ancient is another card worth a look and I'd definitely include Zameck Guildmage if you're considering it.

Re: If you could make one change in Commander...

I would be curious to hear from Voltron players whether this completely invalidates their deck though. Is there no other option or is the double damage necessary without it just far too much to overcome? As a connoisseur of fine Boros Voltron decks, I'd say it depends, but at least for my Aurelia o...

Re: When a game ends up 1v1 - Gloves on or off?

No. You don't want to ramp the guy who's playing problematic lands :) LOL  I mean, fair, but it's not exactly *ramp* in this case. Not like Path to Exile or Assassin's Trophy are ramp, in any event. From my perspective, it's at best value neutral for them. They lose a Cabal Coffers or Gaea's ...

I think EDH as a whole would be improved if every Strip Mine magically turned into Ghost Quarter.
You might be on to something there. Ghost Quarter is really only punishing if you run zero basics, which is a questionable deckbuilding decision.

Re: When a game ends up 1v1 - Gloves on or off?

land destruction are garbage cards dont play them they just make the game suck I feel like the lands available in EDH are too strong to be without at least incidental interaction for them. Precisely. I'll stop playing Strip effects when people stop playing things like Gaea's Cradle , Serra's Sanctu...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mirrormade

Mirrormade makes the cut in my Thassa 1.0 deck because it wants all the Copy Artifact effects it can get its grubby little mitts on. I don't know that it makes the cut in a deck that doesn't want all of those effects available. It (and by extension Copy Artifact) are appreciably worse than Phyrexia...

Congrats on achieving Primer status! Thanks! I'm really proud of how far this deck has come in the last 2-2.5 months and how much it's resonated with folks whose deckbuilding skills I respect and admire. Thanks again to everyone who's contributed to this thread. I doubt I would have finished...

Re: Banlist update: 7 cards banned for offensive imagery/names

Why can't there be dumb, racist characters in a fantasy game, when real life already have them? Because people who have to deal with 'dumb, racist characters' in real life shouldn't have to put up with the same in their escapism. Saying that M:tG is built on race war as a concept is really, really,...

I'm not sure where best to put this, but this is kind of a big deal: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/depictions-racism-magic-2020-06-10 Today, we will be changing the multiverse ID and removing the Gatherer card image for the card Invoke Prejudice, originally printed in 1994. Re: Style Biter's Breakfast - Volrath, the Shapestealer

I dropped Invisible Stalker as a protection role player because it was too hard to clone with Volrath. Young Wolf would be an excellent replacement for the reasons you outlined. I'm not immediately sure what to swap for it, but it's certainly worth testing! What a weirdly versatile legend. Well said...

2. Solitaire: They get the stax lock in and then grind out a victory, and we all look at our phones for an hour. Do people not offer to concede/ask for concession when a lock/infinite combo happens? So, the latest round of changes was a mixed bag, as I had a gut feeling they would be right before the last game I played with them. Pod is better than I was giving it credit for. Demonic Tutor , Coiling Oracle , Greater Good , and Return to Nature are particularly welcome changes. I'm going to give...

foils get *thrashed* in single sleeves Truth! This is why I don't bother with foils, personally. As for sleeves, Dragon Shield Mattes have replaced Ultra Pro Eclipses for me. The Dragon Shields just shuffle so much better for me. I had no idea so many people double-sleeved; it's not something I see...

Agreed! There's some cool stuff in there I didn't even know about, like Flamekin Harbinger. That looks like pure gas in your deck.

Re: Wandering Into Victory - Maelstrom Wanderer Lands

So, I finally piloted this deck in an actual game. Maelstrom Wanderer is a lot more disgusting than I thought it would be. I've played it in the 99 of decks before, but with a deck like this behind it, it was just a steam roller at a table of non-blue decks. I had 8 lands down by T4 thanks to a T1 E...

I'm a sucker for Grafted Exoskeleton in equipment decks. Also, the previously mentioned Sunforger is a perennial favorite. Scrap Mastery is an excellent recursion piece, as is Scrap Trawler in conjunction with Goblin Engineer and Goblin Welder . I'm used to a Boros ( Aurelia, the Warleader ) or Izze...

Re: Style Biter's Breakfast - Volrath, the Shapestealer

So, I've replaced Cavalier of Gales with Gray Merchant of Asphodel for now. I'm thinking it will make its way back in eventually, since it's been pretty good on its own. Probably for Glen Elendra Archmage , as hinted at in the following decklist. Creatures (36) 1 Birds of Paradise 1 Deathrite Shaman...

I won a game with a combo today, so game report! It was my weekly game today with co-workers; we've migrated to Cockatrice to keep things 'normal.' (It's the little things, dammit!) Indeed! Deathtouch plus mandatory blocking from Nacatl War-Pride seems very strong, actually.

I'm thinking that some counter stuff is nice since I can use it in the run-up to playing Volrath and have some clone targets ready to go out of the gate.

Other options for +1/+1 counters on lands is Guildmages' Forum , but that is even more limited. You also have Llanowar Reborn . Sucks that it enters tapped, but it's a free activation. If you could proliferate the counters somehow, it can even give multiple creatures counters. In a different config...

Re: Style Biter's Breakfast - Volrath, the Shapestealer

This decklist looks real cool. I also have fond memories of Nacatl War-Pride , so seeing a deck that revolves around it is nice. A few suggestions: - I kinda feel like Spike Feeder should be Spike Weaver . Weaver is such a good card. It can stall out while you build up your board, or can even focus...
