Re: Jarad or not Jarad?

I, too, played a version of razzliox's Jarad deck for a while and you're right: it feels too linear when it wins. I ended up disassembling it, so I'm currently on the lookout for a new Golgari commander for a more toolbox-y strategy. On the upside, a lot of those toolbox-y pieces are already in the ...

Re: Animist's Awakening

If you're already running Gen Wave, perhaps The Great Aurora could do things for you? I run The Great Aurora and I really like it in a deck that's land heavy (run at least 40). It does double duty as a reset for board states that are bad for you. I'd recommend it over Animist's Awakening for sure.

Re: The importance of "having an answer" in your deck

However, in a lower power world that's not just about winning, but rather having fun while trying to win, I've found excessive removal to lead to a negative gameplay experience. Another thing that happens here is that you're simplifying your lines of play. Since this is already one of the more comp...

Re: The importance of "having an answer" in your deck

Let me preface this by saying removal is important. You need to have answers for things, but these should probably be focused around answering things that ruin your day. Artifact removal for things like Pithing Needle or Phyrexian Revoker when your commander has an activated ability or Torpor Orb wh...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Compulsive Research

I'd probably be running it in Tatyova if it were an instant. Discarding a land in that deck (or Muldrotha!) would be a trivial inconvenience.

Speaking from experience, this is an incredibly satisfying line of play. 10/10, would recommend.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Gemstone Mine

I remember running two Gemstone Mine s in my Sliver deck back in the day because it was one of only two 5 color lands I could afford. (The other was Undiscovered Paradise.) They certainly weren't optimal, but they got the job done. I don't know that I'd play it outside of a deck with a proliferate t...

Gotta go with Urza. He's one of my favorite characters because I love how flawed he is. I think I'd rather have Emry in the Command Zone, though.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Roil Elemental

I've been thinking about a Roil Elemental for my Tatyova deck. Yes, it's fragile, but not really any more so than any other creature. I can definitely see it winning games.

Re: Tromokratis Presents: Krakens in Waiting

I must say, this is a solid list for mono-blue Voltron.

Pacification Array is some solid tech that I didn't even know about. My only suggestion would be to give Strata Scythe a look. It seems to fit in nicely for boosting Tromokratis' power.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

But the design team has always been against fetchlands in standard ever since Tarkir block. If anything I was hoping ZEN3 was going to print the enemy colours of the battle land cycle. That's my hope/expectation as well. I think that all the four color decks back when Tarkir was in Standard was con...

Re: Which monored general?

Feldon is an excellent general. One of the members of my regular playgroup has a Feldon deck and I'm always happy to see it because it's fair, powerful, and can make for some truly ridiculous board states.

Crush of Tentacles purely because I get to use the "Hit him with your crossbow, Steve!" Octopus token with it and that just makes me happy.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mikokoro, Center of the Sea

I remember playing back in high school against a jackass who played a prison deck with Stasis , Kismet , Winter Orb , and Smokestack . I don't think it even had a win condition. All I know for sure is that I hated that guy and his damned deck. No love lost for Stasis . If it was anything like my de...

Tatyova, Benthic Druid - Value Lands

So, I've been sitting on Tatyova since I opened her in a Dominaria booster mys later when I saw everyone else around me wearing masks.ore than a year ago. I've been wanting to play Lands.dec in EDH for a long time and the two seemed like a pretty good match. I've finally gotten around to building th...

Re: Proxies in Commander

I don't think that obligates you to buy stuff from Wizards that you don't want. But if you *do* want it and you print it at the copyshop instead, that's money right out of wizards' pocket. And similarly, printing singles instead of buying them is taking money away from the people who support Wizard...

Re: Proxies in Commander

I don't think it's exactly the same of course but I do think we owe Wizards something for their continued investment in the game. The people who just stop buying cards and print them all out are placing more burden on the people who do buy cards to sustain wizards' bottom line. That argument doesn'...

Re: Commander 2020 Post Mortem

I've had a lot of fun playing Kadena because Morph just feels better in Sultai and the new cards the deck brought have made Morph a bit better in Commander. I think Thieving Amalgam and Ghastly Conscription especially make for interesting endgames. Otherwise, I wasn't super hyped for this set. There...

I actually really like Zhalfirin Void because I'm a fan of the Temple cycle and I always wanted that effect available for mono-colored decks.
