Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
pendant of prosperity looks phelddagrif-able. Probably not going to be very popular because most people build decks with the intention to be the threat as quickly and as often as possible, so it might just do nothing for them whatsoever. But for the craftier players, this seems like it could have s...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
One neat thing: because the exile is a replacement effect and not a trigger, if you have a hexproof critter and a sac outlet, there's nothing your opponents can do to prevent you gaining hexproof (well, split second, but if your sac outlet is a mana ability like phyrexian tower then they're totally ...

Rayami is interesting...any hexproof/indestructible critters that can easily sac themselves?

Re: Let's talk mana!
Another thing to ponder: if I was planning to run 35 lands, but instead run 40 lands of which 5 are utility lands, have I "sacrificed consistency "? I typically count those lands as spell slots (maze of ith being a common example, but also tabernacle since they don't fix my mana without U...

Re: Let's talk mana!
Are all 10 fetches really needed? After a certain point, it seems just excessive. Like, I can understand the argument that playing off-color fetches in 2 and 3 color decks is necessary to some degree to optimize a mana base, but I don't see what 10 does other than provide a bunch of painful or usel...

Re: Let's talk mana!
Normally people have too many utility lands in 2 color and mono color decks I think that's kind of a hard discussion to have, because it depends so much on the deck. For a deck that plays a fast, aggressive gameplan and makes use of all of its mana every turn pretty consistently, then utility lands...

Well, there's - ur-golem's eye dreamstone hedron firemind vessel gilded lotus hedron archive sisay's ring thran dynamo I'd say those are the broadly-useful ones - I've used all of them in some decks, and most of them in Kaervek specifically. Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Khalni Gem
Essentially it costs 1, because you'll replay one of the lands you returned. Or it can cost a net 0 if you returned a sol land (ancient tomb, city of traitors). I don't consider it a slam dunk by any means, but I do think it's a sleeper engine in the right builds. That's assuming you don't have a l...

Re: Let's talk mana!
Just to be clear - when you say "I'm evaluating the need for such a dearth of nonbasic fixing in the wake of a ten-fetch base.", I read that as "the need for such a lack of nonbasic fixing"...which doesn't totally make sense to me, especially in the context of the rest of the par...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Khalni Gem
Plus, it's not like the land bounce is a cost. How do you mean? As in, it's not literally an additional cost to the spell? I guess that matters if it's countered (why would the happen?) or if you somehow play this with no lands out. But it's definitely a huge drawback most of the time. Fixing that ...

Re: Phelddagrif: Show Weakness to Hide Your Strength
Hey look at me, I'm posting too often on my own thread. I guess I'm just a little too excited. I had a bunch of time to kill on an airplane, so I spent an unhealthy amount of time on which tutors make the most sense, for my souped-up version of the deck. And what I came up with is basically this: Tu...

Also: Makeshift Griselbrand with Vilis, Broker of Blood + K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth ? Seems totally fine... I mean, you can already do that with anything that lets you pay life without any additional costs. More interesting: blood celebrant . There's a card that's been on nobody's mind until right no...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Past in Flames is kind of my primary concern with Savinne. Am I missing something? When you cast it the first time, you get to double-cast one normally-not-flashback card, and when you flash it back it has no extra effect with Savinne since it'll be the first spell. Seems...not amazing? I mean it's...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I like the power level of these cards, I think. Maybe they'll get gross with other cards in the deck, but from what I see now it seems pretty fair. I think it's weird how many people are going "wtf, flashback has great cards and madness has garbage". Flashback in jeskai has...some ok cards...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Weird combo, but anje is cool with mindslicer. She untapped before you draw, so you can stack up a bunch of draws by discarding a bunch of madness stuff, then sac mindslicer while they're on the stack and be the only one with a hand.

Re: how yr play group reacts to various counterspells
Counterspells are a necessary evil. By which I mean - using a counterspell in commander is usually kind of a bad thing. You'd really prefer not to do it, because they're mostly kind of bad cards in terms of managing a table of opponents. Usually on-board removal is more efficient, it lets you wait ...

I'm ecstatic to see this primer has moved here too! I hope I'm not overstepping by making a long, waffling post. We hippo players love to to prattle on. I made this post as an update on my current Phelddagriff adventures since we last spoke. If you recall, I was the one that preferred Questing Phel...

Re: how yr play group reacts to various counterspells
You're assuming that, because a deck has good answers to high-powered offensive strategies, that it itself must have a high-powered offensive strategy. As someone whose favorite deck is built around that not being true, I take umbrage. Just because you want to be able to handle powerful strategies, ...

Ok, fixed the links, fixed the font sizes everywhere, fixed the horizontal rules, and found a bunch of broken pictures that are now fixed. Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Assault Suit
Every time I think about including this card, I remember that it doesn't force the creature to attack, and don't include it.
With the exception of must-attack commanders - it's ok in zurgo helmsmasher, for example. Otherwise I think it's way too much effort to justify in most decks.

Re: how yr play group reacts to various counterspells
If I'm playing squirrel tribal against a deck packing Force of Will and Mana Drain, I'm going to have a bad time. I don't follow this logic at all. Counterspells (and removal in general) I consider to be pretty much equally strong against any deck, since they just trade for whatever the most import...

Re: The Pan-Galactic Gargos Blaster
Played a (somewhat modified) version of this deck a couple times this week. It did quite well. Game 1 was a bit awkward - one guy got an insane start (playing saheeli) and I had to exhaust some resources to knock him down. I was in a solid position, with gargos very large...then someone stole him an...

Re: The State of Brawl
My girlfriend was interested in playing it (she never liked commander, but is pretty good at limited). I tried really hard to get it to catch on - I even had a box of 10 decks, one for each color pair, ready to loan out. I saw a few other people playing it a few times, but without enough players it ...
