Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Checklands

I also only run on-color fetches, so there is more room in my decks for the Checklands.
Once they complete the Tangoland and Cycle Dual cycles, then we may have a harder time squeezing these in.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Checklands

Great Lands. Don't see enough play. I like these more than many other lands which get much more attention, like the Temples or the BBD's. Some of the best duals without land types. I need to pick up a couple more of the enemy Checks since they are low cost again. I typically play filter lands before...

Re: Which do you like more?

Eldrazi Monument . If I need the indestructible, its usually for a large team. Soul of New Phyrexia is very difficult to activate at the right time. The Monument also provides pump and evasion and doesn't require mana open constantly to protect the board. Twilight Mire "Filter Lands" Glac...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Karmic Guide

Karmic Guide is a format staple. Hard to undervalue this card in anything with creature synergy. Honestly, I find it difficult not to run Reveilark beside this, which adds to its infamy. White needs more cards like this and Sun Titan to help its card advantage problem. I wouldn't say every white de...

Re: Brewing Liliana (Origins), Help Needed

Price of Betrayal and Smallpox seem a little low impact.

Maybe get a Black Sun's Zenith in for Infest until you get a Toxic Deluge. Killing Wave could also become a more efficient board wipe like Damnation or Life's Finale.

Re: Field of the Dead

Thinking out loud, I wonder if this card is worth the squeeze in my mono green Titania, Protector of Argoth . It uses Scapeshift , World Shaper , and Splendid Reclamation after mass land sacrifice for big token production. It may be win-more if I am already making that many 5/3 elementals, but the o...

Re: Sheldon's AmA

As for the AmA itself... as a person that's been paying attention to a lot of previous things that Sheldon (and the rest of the RC) has spoken about, there wasn't a ton of new information for me. Still, communication is good. This is mostly how I felt. And I only passively follow the RC, though the...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Runic Armasaur

Aye, it's possible but hard to measure. While this one is more subtle than Oppression , I play with a consistent group of people I've known a long time and have noticed the latter slow people down on casting because they didn't want to lose cards. The Armasaur is probably a lesser impact psychologi...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Charmbreaker Devils

This card can create some great value, but in many decks I could see previously mentioned Wheel Dragon to be a better 6 slot than this one. I agree that an end step trigger would be much better, however the pump would be useless by then, which defeats some of the purpose.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Runehorn Hellkite

Runehorn is a good card in my opinion. Playable in Red decks that care about the graveyard, decks that care about wheels, decks that care about discard. I play this in Daretti, Scrap Savant which uses quite a few wheel effects including Chandra Ablaze . I can pitch this to Daretti +2 and then activa...

Re: "Help me cut a card" thread

I dont like Ral or Insidious Will I am not the OP, but I personally love Insidious Will for a 75% list. Its a 2 for 1 against removal spells and can hard counter many game winning plays. 4 cmc is steep for a counter, but I like the card. I also like Mystic Confluence for its ability to scale with t...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Concentrate

With all of the instant speed draw options, X-draw options, and Delve draw options, Concentrate doesn't get much love any more. I have it in a creatureless Talrand deck along with other sub-par draw spells in draw slot 6-10 or something. It is perfectly playable as mentioned above, although for many...

Someone beat me to Momentary Blink. Great Card. Saves your creatures from removal (twice) even if you don't trigger ETB. Also Ephemerate in the same vein.

Re: Modern Border EDH Challenge (Only Cards With Modern Border Allowed)

Natural Order is a must with all the 7+ cmc creatures you are running. Green Sun's Zenith is also super useful Seedborn Muse give you Prophet of Kruphix level value. Also the green 4 mana guy that can bounce your creatures and make himself indestructible. Makes recasting ETB creatures at instant sp...

Re: Modern Border EDH Challenge

Do promo reprints and Master Sets count? Survival of the Fittest would be legal as a judge promo reprint. As would Yawgmoth's Will and Wheel of Fortune . Master's sets have made Modern Border decks so much easier with reprints of many top tier black tutors and blue counters. Fast mana may take a bit...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Soul of New Phyrexia

I play in mono-red artifacts because artifact mana and it activates from the graveyard. Never activated it before, but its still a 6/6 trampler bit potential blowout with Disk and such. Overall better on paper than in practice. Looks like it would compare favorably to Wurmcoil Engine , but it really...

Re: What Makes Bad Games?

I think there are certain things people want in gameplay in general, and losing those things is what causes a bad experience. To name just a few: Variety- People like to have new and different experiences. So if you lose variety in a format, people stop enjoying it. Commander has this baked into it...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Eternal Dragon

Eternal Dragon was a format staple in white back in the day. Cycle it away early game and have a credible threat in the late game. I have not played it in years because 12 mana for a 5/5 flyer is not an acceptable rate even from the graveyard. Good card that just doesn't measure up in today's Comman...

Re: Having Your Voice Heard

I don't think the RC needs to start throwing cards on the ban list for cEDH players. It is usually quite obvious which players are looking for the cEDH style of play and those who aren't. Playgroup communication takes over from there and you can talk about what type of power level you want from a ga...

Re: Do you ever use green signets?

I do, but that's because I choose cycle completion over function and it bothers be if I don't run all the signets I can. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this. Especially for land cylces. I absolutely hate playing a partial cycle of duals. Please Wizards, finish of the cycle-dual and tango la...
