Re: Kalamax Midrange/Tempo
pokken thanks for the comment, great stuff. Deck exposition incoming... I'm really trying to walk a fine line between full spell slinger and more mundane tempo-control deck, which is why I'm trying to keep the creature count up to ~20. Dropping to 10 creatures means I have to replace at least 5-8 w...

Re: God-Eternal Oketra
What do people think of cards like Throne of Eldraine and Sceptre of Eternal Glory as ramp in mono coloured creature based strategies? Necessary restrictions aside, they likely lets you also play a creature the turn you play them but obviously wide open to removal. Faster than the equipment but mor...

Re: Kalamax Midrange/Tempo
Well no other discussion on my requested topics, so I'll just make a quick deck update and add some mental notes. IN Rampant Growth >> OUT Sakura-Tribe Elder . Steve has zero synergy with the deck and was in for the sole purpose of increasing my creature count to 24. I may be signing my death warran...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Bogardan Hellkite
Bogardan Hellkite has aged a bit poorly, but so have thousands of cards over the last few years. I play it in one deck for two key reasons
1. It has 10 total power and toughness and
2. It has an ETB that can win me the game and impact the board.
2a. It works well with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker

Re: rate commanders you've played for physical complication
My good friend loves his Kadena deck, but with morph, manifest, and disguise, I'm worried the tracking will become cumbersome. Plus having to look underneath all the face down cards often would be annoying to me. But he is infatuated with morph :unamused: Of the decks I'm playing now, nothing is too...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control
The only land abilities that would get cost reduced in my deck are Kor Haven, Volrath's Stronghold, and Rishadan Port.
Unless he reduces the cost of Takenuma, Abandoned Mire , Boseiju, Who Endures and other channel lands? If so, that is pretty cool.

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control
WizardMN have you seen Blossoming Tortoise much lately? How have you liked it? I have one coming and want to temper expectations. I suspect if I get a hit on ETB, and a one swing into a blocker it will have served it's purpose. Also gets back dead utility lands or used channel lands instead of find...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Thicket Elemental
Yeah, I didn't say so in my previous post, but pretty bad in 2024. I was speaking from "back in the good old days" and it still didn't really measure up back then.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Thicket Elemental
Friday, March 15th, 2024; Thicket Elemental Man, I used to think this card was so rad back in 2003. I never see it pop up though (think I had it in Goreclaw). That's gotta be a pretty good rate yeah? Not so much. I've played Thicket Elemental back in battlecruiser commander, and paying [sym=4][sym=...

Re: God-Eternal Oketra
Good points. Pearl Medallion is a good one since Oketra's Monument has done so well for me. I need one of those. Tocasia's Welcome comes up often since I tutor for it regularly with Moon-Blessed Cleric often with Enlightened tutor also. My enchantment package is weak right now, so Moon-Blessed Cleri...

Re: God-Eternal Oketra
The primary advantage of Stonecloaker over Kor Skyfisher is in combination with the following cards that all read "once each turn" or "each end step", this allows me to trigger them once on my turn while advancing my board casing regular things and hold Stonecloaker / Whitemane f...

Re: God-Eternal Oketra
I dig the slight voltron option The double strike on Oketra was something that I couldn't ignore when building the deck. My equipment are primarily chosen for the utility (mainly ramp) but with the secondary ability of making Oketra extra deadly. Adding Jitte is the first card I added mainly just t...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Overwhelming Stampede
Good overrun which did work for me for a little while. Only recently came out for Nissa, Ascended Animist as a more flexible, albeit more expensive, overrun. Other similar cards to this I have are on creatures for the Natural Order and Concordant Crossroads / Finale of Devastation synergies. Wouldn'...

Re: God-Eternal Oketra
pokken Thanks for the suggestions. Some good ones I will take a close look at. I see a lot of low cost creatures in your list, where mine is a bit more top heavy. The mission statement is "Creature Value", which I prioritize over absolute mana efficiency. You can see this in my 4 and 5 dr...

Decklist update after doing some reading on the various voltron decks around and some reflecting on how much I love the equipment in this deck with my doublestriking commander. Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Primeval Bounty
I guess I'm missing something on this card, as I've never played it and never had a memorable enough experience with it across the table to remember it doing anything impressive. Maybe I actually never saw it in a game, but even with solid board presence and a little life, the 6 mana didn't seem wor...

Well, that's certainly a pretty big list of stuff. First off, thank you for responding. I appreciate the time you took. As to the suggestions, yes you have touched on some things I internally debate all the time, and some I hadn't thought. As to lands, I just paid like stupid amounts of money for J...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
Staple in my Zurzoth, Chaos Rider deck. Surprisingly few ways to make the table repetitively draw a card at instant speed. Howling mine effects don't work there. Outside of that I don't like giving my opponent's resources, at all.

I'll throw out a few comments just browsing the decklist. Do with them what you will. I don't know your budget or desired changes to the deck. Tried to dump a bunch of card suggestions just for ideas. I'm not criticizing anything about the list. The land base has too many tapped lands. And having se...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Wojek Investigator
Pretty cool card. Decent stats, keywords, mana cost, modest card advantage. Everything I like in a white draw engine. I might have to find a spot for this in Oketra, since I like having creatures that make recurring value.

Re: Archangel Avacyn - Boros Voltron
Curious on your thoughts of Sword of Forge and Frontier , and potentially Sword of Hearth and Home as potential upgrades to some of the older swords. Forge and Frontier looks like solid card advantage for you over body and mind. Hearth and Home is more on the ramp side, but several of your utility d...
