Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Feywild Visitor

This is one of those sorta overdesigned cards that just has too many words to make a real go of it outside of limited, imo. It's an enchantment...that powers up your commander...to give you a 1/1 flying dork...when a NON-token creature deals combat damage to a player...but it's one token per player,...

Re: Samwise Gamgee: Power, Potatoes, and Promises

I've been upgrading the Food and Fellowship deck with Frodo & Sam, which has a lot of overlap here. I found that Bennie Bracks, Zoologist was offering a little more value than Ellyn Harbreeze, Busybody most of the time. If I can make a token on 2 turns, the +2 cards was feeling a little better ...

Re: Samwise Gamgee: Power, Potatoes, and Promises

Have updated the decklist for what I'll actually, finally, be getting to playtest this weekend. Lots of concessions made for what I could afford and find at my LGS, so sadly the deck is missing Gandalf the White , Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines , Mondrak, Glory Dominus , Panharmonicon , and Blossomi...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Archetypes

Going in order of EDHREC played data: Archetype of Imagination (32,837) is the strongest and for good reason - played with any sorta board, it should end the game or at least remove your primary opponent on the spot if it isn't answered. It's got a great typeline (Human Wizard Enchantment) for a var...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Eldrazi Monument

I've consistently found this card to be better in theory than in practice - you have to go really, really, really wide or have a really strong recursion engine to make it work. The average deck, even a tribal deck or token deck, has seemed to lack the oomph for this to feel like it was worthwhile. I...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ranger of Eos

This card is a workhorse in Heliod, Sun-Crowned since it can tutor Serra Ascendant if you are aggroing out, the Soul Sisters if you want that line, or you can just win by tutoring directly for Walking Ballista , nevermind the option to go find other utility like Mikaeus, the Lunarch , Mother of Rune...

Re: Samwise Gamgee: Power, Potatoes, and Promises

I'm not sold on Clock of Omens - the deck has only two true rocks and I'm honestly not convinced that Signet wouldn't be better replaced by Wood Elves or an additional 1-drop mana dork like Llanowar Elves (which triggers Sam), Wayfarer's Bauble (which can be recurred by Sam), or Farseek / Nature's L...

Re: Samwise Gamgee: Power, Potatoes, and Promises

I picked up a Jaheira, Friend of the Forest in anticipation of maybe building a token/food deck, but Sam looks much more fun. I really like what you have going here. This is going on my brew list. Time of Need is flavorful tutor that should find pretty much anything you need to complete an engine. ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Frodo Baggins is a pretty good card. I am really happy with how it plays. In limited? Or in the 99? I have a hard time believing you mean in the CZ. I'll say this for Frodo Baggins - there's only 49 cards that cause the Ring to Tempt You, and he's the only one of them that can easily and reliably t...

Re: Samwise Gamgee: Power, Potatoes, and Promises

Anointed Procession probably is just a cheaper Doubling Season most of the time I think (same with Parallel Lives ). I'm pretty sure this is a Reveillark deck too, as old school as that is If you have one, Earthcraft is exceptional in looping decks as it acts a lot like Phyrexian Altar while being ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

But idk, does anyone else have opinions? Anything you'd want to see built DirkGently style? [*] Saruman of Many Colors Would love to see you or Dirk crack Saruman here. My friend pulled one and we were talking about how to build it, and he just seems too hard to wield - At 6 mana he's really ponder...

Samwise Gamgee: Power, Potatoes, and Promises

Everyone is in love with the JunkFood deck staring Frodo, Adventurous Hobbit and Sam, Loyal Attendant , but me I'm all about Samwise Gamgee as the sole star of the show. Sam gives us an exchange rate I find appetizing (pun intended) - every creature we play gives us a food, and every 3 foods rebuys ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I am almost totally committed to Samwise Gamgee since it just hits all my wants in a deck and Sam's my favorite character in the books and movies. - Saffi Eriksdotter is a way to keep Sam very safe and keep the food flowing with more triggers, and Sam can keep picking her back up. To a lesser extent...

Re: JUNE 2023 QUARTERLY UPDATE

Baffling stuff... Orcish Bowmasters being on the radar when Narset, Parter of Veils is not is absurd, quite frankly. Bowmasters is clearly a strong hate card and a strong card with wheels, but I'm not sure how "sniping people for 7 and making an army" is banworthy when "mind-twisting ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Phelddagrif

The traditional and stereotypical Phelddagrif is terrible, ponderous kingmaking at its worst and is also more or less obsoleted by Gluntch, the Bestower and Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis if you want to play group hug. But the DirkGently Special is beautiful and terrible to behold. Folks get so held up...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fateful Handoff

For one more than Donate or Harmless Offering , you also get to draw cards? Seems legit. I hadn't seen this card before and am surprised I haven't seen more buzz? I guess not being in the right colors for Zedruu the Greathearted hurts but black has way more garbage to give away. Seems like it should...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Murderous Spoils

As has been said ad nauseam - removal really wants to be 3 MV or less in most metas. Every point of mana you go over 3, the card needs to generate explosively more value or have insane synergy with your deck. For value, even that isn't enough anymore - your Mystic Confluence s, your Hex s,, your Dec...

Re: LotR Commander Deck Lists;

I think there's a few factors here beyond the higher price point: 1) There are a small but vocal minority that claim they'll "never buy UB Product" - but getting an easy crack at high-value cards like Rejuvenating Springs , Heroic Intervention , Toxic Deluge , etc. might just change their...

Re: confusing rules the deck

Someone in my playgroup was looking for a deck like this. Humility + Opalescence is an iconic pair that requires a PhD in nuclear magic physics to understand. A few other things I've considered are... - Possibility Storm , Knowledge Pool , Eye of the Storm can make playing spells and managing the st...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Skaab Ruinator

I'm still surprised this hasn't proven effective while Tombstalker and Murktide Regent are. I guess part of the idea is that, especially in Modern, it's dramatically easier to get lands, instants, and sorceries into the 'yard than specifically creatures. There's also flexibility - you can cast Regen...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I love that Shadowfax, Lord of Horses shows us the meaning of haste, as he had to, gives all horses haste, as he had to, and gives his "riders" "Super Haste" for added bonus points. 11/10, perfect card is perfect, we can be done here with this set.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Legolas, Master Archer is a very funny "Fight" Commander since every fight spell makes him bigger and also does double damage to opponents effectively. Legolas is known for his archery, but his real skill is apparently Rabid Biteing orcs to death.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I totally get the flavor of the card, but The Balrog, Flame of Udûn is terrible. With that (again, super flavorful!) drawback this needed to be bigger (Ward, Menace, better stats) and/or be cheaper (4 MV). As it stands it's awful in limited since there's so many random legends around and awful in co...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Kederekt Leviathan

It''s only in the last ~5 years or so that I can say every color has a better 0-mana discard outlet if they're trying to do Hellbent/Madness/"whenever you discard a card/a card is put into your graveyard from anywhere" nonsense and in fact, I'm not convinced every color can be better than ...
