Re: Rip and Tear: Until it is Done
Good points, all of them. I might lose the contract. It's actually a misguided vestige of my original intent for the four demons to be Liliana's debt collectors, but Griselbrand... Hopefully WotC prints a fairer version sometime. I don't know what my group's power level is, at least not by an arbitr...

Re: Rip and Tear: Until it is Done
So I made a few changes - 30 was a bit much in regards to the Apostles. I originally wanted 6 for each demon, because I could picture the scene in my head. I lost six of them, and now only Rakdos's four Archfiends have squads of disciples bringing them forth. I lost the generic commander color ident...

Re: Rip and Tear: Until it is Done
At first, because I was on mobile and data was slow, your commander wasn't loading so I checked out the curve and thought, now here's a guy who doesn't care about curves, then I realized you were playing the best commander in the colors. Long live Rakdos.

Rip and Tear: Until it is Done
I've been hopping from deck to deck like a grasshopper on cocaine. They're either too boring (Torbran), too weak (Flip-Chandra), too unoriginal (Wort, Boggart Auntie) -- you get the idea. I put this together today, and it's in the mail from TCG. I'm on the hunt for the Goldilocks' deck that's just r...

Re: First, Hit Your Land Drops (draft essay)
Having gone mono red in various iterations this past year, from Grenzo to Krenko to Chandra to Torbran, I've found running all the looting instants and sorceries on top of a low end of ideal land count (36 land, 11 looter spells)-- I find I never flood or drought.

Re: Automated Commander Power Level Evaluation
Down the line, would it be possible to account for commanders such as Zada who not only can, but have to, use complete and utter trash to work, and are quite competent while doing so? The best measure of a card is in its environment. Since my Chandra list was just too clunky, I've been working on To...

Re: If you could make one change in Commander...
One change: If a permanent can become a legendary creature that would be a legal commander, through its own, "on the card" means, I would make it a legal commander by default. Granted, there isn't a playgroup worth playing in that would refuse Elbrus as a commander, for example, but why no...

Re: What factors go into rating your deck?
I don't really know how to rate my decks, so I don't bother. I take ideas that work and make them clunky and less effective by giving them handicaps and pairing them together in unintended ways. I'm the steampunk of the deckbuilding community.

Re: "Quirks That Define Your EDH Style"
I only ever own one deck at a time. I'm on the hunt for my forever deck that'll get upgraded for the rest of Commander's lifetime. Finding it, my Goldilocks deck, has proven harder than expected. I love self-imposed limitations for thematic purposes. I love deckbuilding as an outlet of creativity. T...

Re: When should you update versus dismantle?
I modify decks for as long as I still want said deck to be my pet deck. I only want one deck at a time. I want to put everything into a single deck that friends directly associate with me. I dismantle decks when I discover my concept wasn't going to work. I insist on reinventing the wheel with every...

Re: Do you intentionally misplay/hold back?
If I'm guaranteed to win, and if my deck is miserable to play against- stax or something- then I'll do my best to dial it to 11 rather than win as soon as possible. Neither of these conditions are ever true anymore. My opponents are better than me most of the time and I don't play unfun decks. I had...

Curves: How often do you want a turn one play?
I find, when putting Commander decks together, that, if I selected cards blind to CMC, I end up with a tower of CMC3s and 4s. The blind curve is something like 2-8 1 drops, 6-12 2 drops, 15-20 3 drops, 15-20 4 drops, 6-12 5 drops, and a sprinkle of assorted high end closers. Color identity doesn't m...

Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh//Chandra, Roaring Flame: Superfriends, Burn & Elemental Tribal
Some sort of mono-red control deck, as close to creatureless as possible, has been a project of mine for months now, and until recently, the theoretical commander was Diaochan, Artful Beauty . They always goldfished very clunkily. I wasn't impressed. I put together this superfriends list on the 22nd...

Re: What's your most unusual commander and/or deck?
I put together a mono-red creatureless superfriends spellslinger deck helmed by flip Chandra, and it goldfishes well on Archidekt's playtester, but we'll see how it holds up against players in a week or two. The concept of a mono-red one creature or creatureless control deck has been something I've ...

The spell you cast goes on the stack. The copy goes on the stack. The copy resolves. The original resolves.

What's your most unusual commander and/or deck?
I've a goblin deck led by grenzo, dungeon warden that's 64 goblin creatures including him, and 36 land. Goblins are unique among tribal offerings in that they represent a complete card ecosystem from ramp to draw to tutors, removal, etc. Their fondness for 2/2 or less means Grenzo offers value right...

Re: Korvold - let’s brew!
Despite goblins being primarily a Jund tribe - if only due to Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, there's really no satisfactory Jund Goblin commander. I'll second Darrenhabib's suggestion of running him as a goblin tribal deck. That's what I'm doing. I didn't even intend a Korvold deck. What happened was, I wanted ...

Re: The importance of "having an answer" in your deck
My current deck is Korvold, Fae-Cursed King Jund Goblin Tribal, and in a perfect world, it gets to play Goblin Matron , Goblin Wizard and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to be able to cheat in any answer that's been printed on a goblin subtype. Goblins are particularly good at running a bunch of silver bu...

Re: Using Rule 0 to Determine a Deck's Power Level
I don't ask. I have a general understanding of how most commanders will play out, and I assume every opponent is offering a focused effort that makes sense. If they end up noticeably outside those parameters, we can make the best of it.

Re: Endrek Sahr vs Ayara
Endrek brings something unique to the table - he's like Black's Talrand. I feel like Ayara is another of a half dozen bleeder effects and an unexciting draw. She'd be awesome in Endrek's 99, because Endrek needs to remove thrulls, and draw is a valid reward for sacrifice. The life swap for each thru...

Chaos: Mission Accomplished! Now what?
So, it's a familiar story: you build a chaos deck, and it works. Game after game, you reliably resolve cards like Scrambleverse and Chaos Warp every game. When you built your deck, chaos wasn't the means, it was the ends. That's my story right now - and on a side note, you could replace chaos with s...

Re: Which monored general?
Grenzo, Havoc Raiser is my current commander, and his deck is forced combat curving into chaos. Having two modes to play with makes this guy pretty flexible, and his CMC is hard to beat. Win or lose, you'll almost always be a presence, and that's good enough for me.

I could see myself building a deck that looks like it was built around Challenger Troll, but Wolfir feels more tame in comparison. Troll gets my vote.

Re: Mono-Black Woes, or what do I do with Yawgmoth?
Black's biggest problem, I think, is that it almost never has a turn one play, and doesn't reliably have something to do till turn 3. Nobody beats black for powerful 3-5 drops, but it seems like that's when black just gets started. Even black's ramp is midgame and makes huge endgames if you get ther...
