Re: SCD: Gifts Ungiven

I don't think Gifts would be banned today if it were a new print in C20, and my opinion remains that cards that wouldn't be banned today shouldn't be banned any longer. I'm sure there are a handful of cards on the list that wouldn't be deemed banworthy, and if they're not banworthy, they should be a...

Re: SCD: Library of Alexandria

I don't own one, and I won't own one, but I would favor unbanning it. I like to think Commander has valid reasons for banning cards. The only possible reason Library was initially banned was perceived barrier to entry, and they'll never use that excuse ever again, current thinking seems to hold. The...

Re: What is going in your decks from C20 and Ikoria?

I really wanted to tweak my deck to add a Companion to it, but it's not really feasible without coming up with a whole new deck- losing all the even CMC cards for Obosh. The only other cards I might get later but don't want now are the free spells.

Re: Your favourite "big dumb fatties" generals

My big, dumb fatties are demons. Judith, the Scourge Diva runs 42 apostles, 7 demons, and 4 demon facilitator creatures. The demons are Doom Whisperer; Rakdos, Lord of Riots; Razaketh, the Foul-Blooded; Rune-Scarred Demon; Sire of Insanity; Dread Cacodemon & Vilis, Broker of Blood. That said, wh...

Re: What factors go into rating your deck?

CMC, price and the average turn it goldfishes a win have always been the metrics I use to get a ballpark, but I've found them unreliable for the most part. My Baral Polymorph deck hit high marks in all three, but was something of a predictable one trick pony. One year, I spent two grand on every anc...

Re: "From outside the game" -- But not a 'Wish'

Now I'm waiting with bated breath to see what angle the RC takes in tackling the relevant rules, particularly as they've always been an entity that cares as much or more about the delivery of the rules as they do about the content of the rules.

Re: "From outside the game" -- But not a 'Wish'

I suppose they could free up the outside the game space as okay, killing the related rule, and simply ban the offending wishes outright. You wouldn't avoid adding sol ring to the ban list by making a rule that says artifacts can't produce mana, after all.

Re: "From outside the game" -- But not a 'Wish'

Nobody is arguing that there aren't differences between companions and wishes. Before replying here, I reread the thread to make sure nobody said as much. Maybe the offending posts got deleted. The question at hand isn't even whether wishes should be legal. I don't care- wouldn't use them anyway. Th...

Re: "From outside the game" -- But not a 'Wish'

I think what'll be more interesting is whether the position on wishes will change at all for the sake of consistency. The RC, by not kneecapping WotC's cool new mechanic, kneecapped their argument on outside the game cards. I can't imagine something not changing. Will the new rule be that bringing i...

Re: [IKO] Mythos of Nethroi

I misread the card and just had to delete my post, thinking it destroyed a nonland permanent if the target's controller used a white or green source to cast it, and the logistics of memory would've been baffling. The actual card's much better, thankfully.

Prima Donna Dolorosa

Athreos, God of Passage is perhaps best known in Commander for helming a Shadowborn Apostle deck. Notably, the deck gained a lot of notoriety (relatively), after Josh from The Command Zone played it on his podcast. When I saw Judith, my first thought was, "Here's an Athreos without the variabl...

Re: When a beloved deck disgusts you

One reason, until currently, that I avoided tutors in my commander decks, is because I can't not do the same thing over and over again. I discovered this when I had a mono-black expensive stuff deck (calling it good would be misleading at best, a true example that decks aren't their card prices but ...

Re: Shuffling a hundred cards

I shuffle 2/3s or so of my deck at a time, always mixing in the last unused stack, and when it comes time to put it all together, I use the tabletop for assistance for a few full shuffles, just kinda looking away so that people know I can't see the bottom card.

Re: Marisi Outside of Goad

I've no experience with Marisi, but I have experience in being underwhelmed with a commander who was both goad and something else, and focusing on the goad, namely, Grenzo, Havoc Raiser and I was underwhelmed for the exact reasons you outlined. The real way to build Grenzo would be for the card adva...

Re: Talkin about rule 0

I like the "what non 7 power level is everyone playing?" question. 7 is the Goldilocks answer most appropriate, logically, for that 75% ethos that people fall into when their attempt at a 100 loses to a precon. It's the thought free answer.

Re: What are your favourite mono-white and mono-blue generals?

The same data that allows you to pick the best cards allows you to make sure you don't, so I'm okay with it. I don't think it pulled EDH out of orbit, but rather pulled it into orbit faster than it would have naturally. The end game of almost every game is a solved state, and the only difference eff...

Re: What are your favourite mono-white and mono-blue generals?

The only mono blue deck I've ever built is Baral, Chief of Compliance which I built as a Polymorph deck, and wasn't too excited with. What I'd want in a mono blue deck is sea monster tribal with krakens, octopi, whales and leviathan - and I almost made one helmed by Thassa, God of the Sea . but neve...

Re: Unusual tribal decks

I have demon tribal under Rakdos the Defiler , but it's not tribal in the traditional sense, and honestly, unless you're playing one of the flagship tribes -- goblins, merfolk, elves, etc -- you won't really be playing a tribal deck in any meaningful sense. There's a scale of tribal in my opinion, w...

Re: What factors go into rating your deck?

Where do people think your average pub-stomp Kaalia deck would fall in the 1-10 ratings? I ask because it's the closest parallel to the Rakdos Thrumming-Apostles deck I've got currently, after lots of tweaks. While it's a bit more all in on a single combo payoff than Kaalia, both fairly religiously...

Re: Rip and Tear: Until it is Done

Took into account the incoming advice and I'm growing happier with the playtesting. I upped the ramp, improved the mana base, and found some neat demons that complete the tribal package. Nightmare Shephard is pretty awesome here. Edit: and just remembered thrumming stone. EDIT: So, replacing Extract...

Good point -- I'm looking into options. Unlike other buffs, it's okay if Rakdos destroys the haste generator once the game requires him to start doing his thing.

Re: If you could make one change in Commander...

Not so much a strictly commander change, but my recent dabbling in Rakdos 1.0 as a commander had me thinking that walkers should have a tribal subtype. Thematically, Ob Nixilis Reignited aught to pass by Rakdos's sac half your nondemons clause.

Re: Rip and Tear: Until it is Done

Lots of Archidekt playtesting led me to dislike some of the concepts in my original deck, wherein a few of the demons weren't chosen for their effect, but to better fit the whole image of the deck. Lost a handful of off theme ideas, and added hopefully more impactful plays. At the very least, and it...
