Re: The collectible game vs the playable game
I'm a cowardly soft collector. I believe people should only play what they've earned, and I really dislike proxies, but I never act on it.

Re: [Discussion!] How do you know when you've gone "too far" with effect redundancy in deck building?
I'm currently messing with Malcolm and Ramirez as mono u pirate partners, where the goal is to play a hell of a lot of answers while using the two treasure a turn to play giant sea creatures. I run 24 instant speed answers and 6 sorcery, in addition to about 24 or so answers stapled to my sea creatu...

Re: What settings or books would you like to see made into an upcoming UB (Universes Beyond) product?
Having been playing the Pixel Remasters of the first three Final Fantasy titles, and having pretty much every FF and Dragon Quest title between Steam and iOS, this thought occurred to me- a JRPG set.

Mono-U Partners: Pirates, Ramirez & Malcolm
One deck that I've always wanted to make, or rather, two decks that I've always wanted to make, are old-school "draw-go", and sea-creature tribal. I also always wanted to be an early adopter of a particular commander. I achieved all three with this Ramirez & Malcolm deck. Both commande...

Re: Which Planar Factions Do You Identify With? [Guilds, Wedges, etc.]
Barring a brief sabbatical to Azorius and mono blue for something diffferent, I've been devotedly Rakdos colors the entirety of my Magic career. My one deck is Rakdos colors Chainer 2.0.

There was no doubt he had a slot in Chainer, Nightmare Adept. I treat it like a double tutor that I can sac and replay. Pretty insane.

Re: Should banned as commander come back?
I suspect that if BaaC were reinstated, it would create more bans, not less, so I'm not for it. I'm already of the opinion that the ban list is too big.

Re: Kaldheim - What is your take?
I only have a single commander deck, and I don't play any other formats, so a set is only as good to me as the number of cards I swap in from it, and Doctor Strange couldn't find a universe in even ten million tries where my Rakdos Chainer deck doesn't want those two demons that tutor. I'm happy.

Re: Of Prices and "Playtest Cards"
To me, owning the cards is part of the game, and I simply won't proxy. To be fair, I have been coerced into proxying in the past, and could possibly be again, but I only acquiesced if the card was actually in the mail. I really care that I only play what I've earned. Shortly before the insanity bega...

Re: Wandavision [Potential Spoilers in this thread]
Wandavision had a lot of faith in its viewership. The first three episodes were probably not what Marvel fans would be looking for. It's looking like the series is moving in a direction more people will take to. Episode 5 could have been episode 1 in a less confident series. Doing three straight up ...

Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire and Blightstep Pathway // Searstep Pathway - both for Chainer, Nightmare Adept. The latter is definitely replacing a basic land. The former will be a challenge because I don't run any cards that I don't like.

There aren't any deck strategies that bother me. Too many take-backs bother me. If you're the habitual do-over guy, you bother me. That's pretty much it.

Chainer, Nightmare Adept Battlecruiser
I don't know what the power number is, here, but I'm shooting for an eight or nine, where ten is defined as entering the cEDH territory. I'm trying to build a casual idea without budget constraints. I wanted to win with big, bomby haymakers, rather than attrition or combo. I wanted to prioritize big...

Re: how do you "learn" to multiplayer?
Worst case, forget learning to multiplayer, own your lot in life and be what they think you are. Might be easier to beat them constantly as archenemy with the right deck than get any concessions in threat perception.

I'm also of the opinion that holding back is only appropriate during deck construction. Further, the need to hold back in game is better prevented than carried out.

Re: Juri: Master and Commander
So far, I took your advice regarding Opal Palace - it has no place here. I'm mulling Rakdos, Lord of Riots because he was easier to trigger when Judith, the Scourge Diva was the commander, but he's still reliable cost reduction here. In place of the palace, I rediscovered Yawgmoth, Thran Physician ....

Juri: Master and Commander
For about as long as Covid-19 has redefined daily life, I've been working on a Shadowborn Apostle deck in Rakdos colors. Beginning as a Rakdos the Defiler deck that was budget casual, it had been Judith, the Scourge Diva for months now, and it's no longer budget. It's only casual in the sense that i...

Re: Social Contract
The social contract, broadly in practice, seems to be something of a last wall of defense of the format's original preferred play style. It can be summed up as, "Don't prevent big plays". Commander was a battlecruiser format at inception, and that's what the social contract protects any ti...

Re: Where do you stand on graveyard hate?
I don't run anything I can't run in bulk. I was doing deck construction very similar to the 8x8 model before I even knew it was a thing. The notion is just what comes naturally to me. Experience has shown that I don't do well when I have to make decisions on the fly. I've never been a good control d...

Re: Any spicy Commander Legends brews incoming?
As soon as I noticed him, I began retooling my Judith, the Scourge Diva deck into a Juri, Master of the Review deck. The changes are relatively minor though, and Shadowborn Apostle is still the core of the deck. I'm just retooling slightly for a possible voltron alternate win con.

Re: [official] How long have you been playing?
I started in 1997 - a lot of my initial lands were snow-covered back then. I was mostly playing with people's hand-me-downs. The first booster pack I ever bought was from Tempest. I quit around 2002. I restarted during Avacyn block when my coffee shop started getting into MtG.

I took your advice on anti counter interaction and added six low cmc options: Dualcaster Mage , Fork , Pyroblast , Red Elemental Blast , Reiterate and Reverberate . Re: Cards that punch well above their asking price
Chaos Warp , Bedevil & Feed the Swarm cover the removal bases with respectable versatility in colors that don't really do versatility. Liliana's Standard Bearer is good draw with minimal build around and top tier draw in the right decks. Bolas's Citadel a goblin fart away from being as broken a...

Liliana's Standard Bearer has effectively been Wheel of Fortune #6 in my Judith, the Scourge Diva deck. I can't praise it enough.
