Re: The Varinaristocrats!

Cool to see the Haakon package made it in. Will be interesting to see how it plays out after some real playtesting (I'm assuming that you haven't got it out it the wild much / at all yet?). I would have thought with Haakon package included, Buried Alive looks a lot better. Although that would requir...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange

So a couple of people have questioned the brick-like qualities of Necroduality. anyone else had any play testing with it ?

And what of Overcharged Amalgam? Does anyone see an actual place for it in a tuned list?

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange

Epiphany at the Drownyard: each time I drew this card it was disappointing. It cost too much mana and I rarely want to keep all my mana open in order to cast EoT in the hope of finding what I need. If we want a powerful mana sink, Empty the Laboratory will probably do a better job. Or we can swap t...

Re: Esper Spirits - Who can lead it?

My vote would be Tymna the Weaver & Sakashima of a Thousand Faces.

Lots of interesting ETB you could trigger and bounce back Sakashima with. Could also 2x up the Tymna trigger for all the evasive spirits.

Re: The Varinaristocrats!

I'm not sure if they would be any use to you but there is Corpse Connoisseur. It is probably too much at 5 mana and inflexible, even with the unearth cost. What about Vile Entomber? Edited the above regarding the entomb effects. I think I'd probably play Buried Alive and Entomb first even though th...

Re: The Varinaristocrats!

Cool. Glad the idea has some merit and traction. I've been trying to fit Haakon into a jank knight-equipment build for years, but he just didn't fit once all the discard and other synergies were fit in. Perhaps if I build Varina I can scratch the itch here instead and streamline that deck. Have you ...

Excellent. Thanks for your thoughts on Vile Entomber. Ok. This has been milling over in my brain for the last few hours... Foulmire Knight finally triggered it for me I've got your reanimating zombie. Infact, I've got a whole host of them (well, let's see what you think...) Haakon, Stromgald Scourge...

Re: The Varinaristocrats!

Ok. Cool. Glad it wasn't a total bust. I've got a 1 drop 'evasive' zombie for your too. Foulmire knight Also, pretty sure I didn't see Pact of the Serpent . I feel like it is cheap enough to help you hit land drops and has a way higher ceiling than the blue cantrips you are playing. Also, while unab...

Zombie that comes back from the graveyard... (you were talking about this is another thread).

Scourge of Nel Toth

Gotta sac creatures, and so loops are difficult, but I thought I would throw it out there as I hadn't seen it suggested yet.

Re: Esika Oath Control - Brainstorming

How about Koma, Cosmos Serpent? It's a pretty hard to remove threat that can take over the game and control the board and provides you with blockers.

I'm interested on your take on this thing in general too as part of the 99 of control/midrange builds.

Re: Khans fetch lands and Darkslick Shors

I think they will slowly increase in price until their next reprint (...wow. wild prediction). They have seemingly quickly risen in price to match the price of the equivalent enemy fetches just printed. I'd guess that they will do Commander Legends 2 for the non-standard experimental set next year, ...

Re: The Ur-Dragon (Lands Engine Style)

I'd have to concur with you that Old Gnawbone is probably the only shoe in for the deck. The synergy with Hellkite Charger is solid, and the fact that Charger makes it's own mana for the effect with Gnawbone out makes it better than Savage Ventmaw as you can search for it with Defense of the Heart o...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I'm really bad with the rules and odd stack interactions:

Acererak, Lord of Unlife + Inalla, Archmage Ritualist = ?

Can you return the card, and/or even the copy, before you have to sacrifice on of them to the legend rule?

Re: The Ur-Dragon (Lands Engine Style)

I probably don't actually run enough land cards for this deck's lands engine sub-theme. If you're going for a classic rampant growth/mana rock approach 37-38 is fine. Also lowering my mana curve in a dragon deck? Oh if only-*Looks at the Adventures in Forgotten Realms Spoilers again* wait Dragon Tu...

Excellent! I was looking to ask a few questions about Ur-Dragon myself (and how to best optimise it), so it will be good to use your thread as the basis for discussion. I'll go through your deck list now though and pose some questions on come slots to generate some discussion for now though: LANDS C...

Re: Disrupt - Worth it?

I dunno. I wouldn't write it off so quick. If you've got a spellslinger deck that operates at, predominantly, instant speed and you get value off the cast trigger then it might be ok in that. Think a reactive Kykar / Talrand / Baral deck. If you either don't think of it as a counter spell and run it...

Re: Aminatou, the Fateshifter - The 8-year-old Planeswalker

Hi, Sorry for the delayed reply. Whenever I am thinking of this deck, I always think of what you said regarding 2mana CITP-draw-a-card creatures. Whilst there isn't one of these available in either Strixhaven (or MH2) (unless you count the skeleton for CMC2 that craws when it enters but can't block)...

I'm swapping my Sram over to Sythis. I haven't got a list yet but I'm fiddling round at the moment and I'm glad to see yours to grab some ideas. I'm planning on leaning into the auras as much has possible to increase the positive of getting an additional 2 enchantress effects for 2 mana (Sram and Ko...

Re: Aminatou, the Fateshifter - The 8-year-old Planeswalker

So I've got a variant of this deck based off your primer too. Have you shelved it for a while? I was surprised that there wasn't any Strixhaven commentary from you as you are so prolific on the boards (although that is often creating or discussing new ideas). I thought I'd seen a few tools that coul...
