Remastering Bad Commanders - Lockdown Project
Hi all, New Zealand has just been put into a second lockdown and that means I'm stuck at home for two weeks with little to do. To help get me off my butt walking and exercising, I've created a project. Each day I will be doing some form of exercise. While I'm exercising, I will be looking at old, ba...

Re: Questing Knights and the Wrong Colors
Coastal Piracy effects IMO go a long way towards making random tribal decks work, the same way they make any other aggressive, low to the ground deck more effective

Re: 40 Life in EDH
Firmly in the 30 life camp, though the main arguments re; ramp, combo, multiple players etc have already been stated. I'll add in my 2c that adding Monarch to the game also has a similar effect in that it strongly supports decks that can get and maintain an early board presence. Commander's "ag...

Re: Combat damage tribal - Brainstorming
So the thing to remember about jamming a small selection of things that enable draws on combat damage (e.g. bident) is that it makes your attack surface different. It's a very different play texture to have 20 guys who individually always do something if they connect to 20 guys that do nothing with...

Yeah I agree on the 5+ player thing, it seems pretty terrible. A rule of law style deck seems like a fantastic idea I will start looking into it

Super long turns?
Heya all, had a situation with my playgroup last night which I'd like some input on. We have a player in our group that likes to play convoluted combo decks with weird interactions. He really wants to get his turns 100% perfect. He is also a very slow player, he is trying to improve on that but at t...

Re: Tax, Tap, Destroy, casual stax
Decks don't just fit into casual and cEDH, there are "high power, low combo" decks in the middle that people might be ok to pilot against this. But definitely anything staxxy is in the "ask your playgroup" catergory. If people are running T3 combo, even if it's not optimized, the...

Re: Quick shoutout for some good designs (imo)
Big +1 to the concepts ITT. I love seeing some more reasonable commanders, with intriguing payoffs for less standard deck builds. I have an aggro/control Derevri deck that I'm seriously looking at turning into Inniaz, the Gale Force for example. Same ideas - evasive creatures and combat payoff - but...

Re: Do you curve your rocks or play all the 2 CMC ones?
I would put a Mox Diamond in more lists than I would a Mana Crypt. Realistically, fast mana doesn't cause an issue, unless someone is running it (and abusing it) vs people who are not running it. For most of my list's, the 2 colorless mana gets split between two different spells, or just to acceler...

Re: Do you curve your rocks or play all the 2 CMC ones?
I refuse to run any of the mana crypts, mox etc because I think they're a hugely negative influence on the format. I don't even run sol ring except in one deck designed to play at the higher tables at a store. Is it a negative influence because you do not have a copy? Also, Sol Ring is hardly enoug...

I refuse to run any of the mana crypts, mox etc because I think they're a hugely negative influence on the format. I don't even run sol ring except in one deck designed to play at the higher tables at a store. Typically my decks run every signet and talisman. After that I will go for the 2cmc colour...

Re: Strategies and commanders for higher player count
I had forgotten about the good boi, let's roll with Haldan, Avid Arcanist and Pako, Arcane Retriever . Biggest obstacle I see is getting Pako to survive his attack phase lol, but in a 6p game there should be a target for a giant dog to attack safely. Re tutors etc it's a fair point. Our group's rela...

Yes please, keen to take you up on that. We are proxy friendly so I have access to anything with the exception of super egregious cards, ie Gaea's Cradle. I'm open to suggestions, but these are the generals that are currently on my radar that contain U and G. Rashmi - if it had red in it, I would ma...

Re: Strategies and commanders for higher player count
By far and away the best type of deck for a 6 player is one that allows you to cast/trigger/activate something every players turn. This can be done in a number of different styles. 1.) Untap mana sources each players turn. 2.) Triggers or activation's that don't require mana (or very little mana) t...

Re: Strategies and commanders for higher player count
Cliché Nekusar? Nekusar was one of my first decks, this group *hates* him with a passion. He could maybe be run as group slug but I find that every-turn-damage effects seem to draw even more hate than combo (which pisses me off as I love group slug) If you're playing in 5+ player games, winning thr...

Re: Strategies and commanders for higher player count
Zedruu is kind of dodgy for me in a big game, because of his naturally confusing playstyle combined with six players. Otherwise he's right up my alley. Something like group-slug permanents (Sulfuric vortex) that are then donated for value, that type of thing. He's on the watch list. re; Etali I have...

Strategies and commanders for higher player count
Heya all, my group has been playing a lot of 5p games lately and sometimes even 6p. Honestly I'm not the biggest fan, but don't want to leave people out so gotta suck it up. My decks pretty much entirely win with combat or commander damage, and this scales even worse into big games than it does into...

Re: Mirage Xel's Commanders [EDH]
That blue one is potentially more interesting than any of the current blue commanders imo. Would be better with a way to create more manifested spells, such as an upkeep trigger. As is it only has one build which is "gigantic sorcery", since you lack the ability to play it as "many sm...

https://www.cardkingdom.com/images/magic-the-gathering/portal/mountain-a-38084-medium.jpg Favourite budget mountain of all time, I just adore the shade of red in the sky. Re: Best monored commanders
Thats something I wanted to mention before, but typing on my phone sucks. A lot of the good red decks are super linear - they run the same gameplan every single time and often do so in a very straightforward way while they're at it. A lot of my games with Krenko, Mob Boss devolved into "mountai...

Re: Best monored commanders
Daretti is strong and relatively easy to build to a decent level. Kurkesh is a hipster variant on daretti that is strong but gets no play. Zirda is a newer one, rw hybrid so could be mono red. Have just started mine and can already see he is totally bonkers. My red deck has been together for like 5 ...

Re: June 1 2020 rules changes
Way preferred Davis' solution of effectively replacing a card in your hand. Simpler and more elegant, doesn't require adding a weird new unrespondable action to the game. But that affected constructed way more than EDH, for this format I dont think the 3 mana thing matters too much.
