Re: Which Planar Factions Do You Identify With? [Guilds, Wedges, etc.]

Ravnica Guild: Boros Legion [sym=w][sym=r] Call me basic, but I really enjoy how Boros cards amplify white's theme of making little units into big units. Flavor wise Azorius came close, but Boros combines justice with true concern for others so they manage to win out in the end. Plus who doesn't lik...

Re: STX- Strixhaven: School of Mages- Worldbuilding and Story Discussion

The story so far just makes me increasingly tired of planeswalkers. Here we have the greatest magic school in the known multiverse, staffed by dozens of cool and presumably powerful characters we've been given cards for, some of them even helming their own Commander decks...and yet, somehow, when b...

you actually made me put dire tactics on scg cart. It's a strong removal once conditions are met. So thanks for mentioning it.
What can I say? The flavor text is the dramatic, death before dishonor stuff I live for!

Re: Knight Tribal, of Two Varieties

It is kind of a shame that Kudro can't increase the strength of the knight tokens since their only type is knights (I checked on Arena, they don't get his buff despite CLEARLY being humans) and the deck generates a lot of them in certain scenarios. Still, I guess that's why he's a one-of recommendat...

Knight Tribal, of Two Varieties

Thanks to everyone who took an interest in helping this deck project to get its creative wheels turning in the What Deck Should I Play thread. This is a continuation of that discussion. I definitely went deep into detail with the thought process behind each card in hopes that if I made any serious m...

Re: [Official] "What Pioneer Deck Should I Play?" Thread

Thank you for the reply! Strixhaven has no Knights in it so that would be a totally different deck, and I'd probably need to wait a little to let prices stabilize but Silverquill is probably my favorite college aesthetically so it's definitely an option. Funnily enough, while researching WR Knights ...

Thank you vey much for the suggestion! I had been eyeballing knight tribal at little, so nice to see that it's a worthy recommendation.

Re: [Official] "What Pioneer Deck Should I Play?" Thread

Wow this has gone unused. Thinking I'll be commiting to building my first Pioneer deck this summer so I'm posting for a little advice on deck suggestions. Collection: My collection of cards consists mostly of cards I built into causal jank from the timeframe of Dominaria to Throne of Eldrane. The m...

Re: [STX] Strixhaven Pioneer Discussion

If I commit to this format I gotta say, turn 1 Clever Lumimancer into turn 2 Arrester's Zeal + some other 1 cost card is hilarious enough to make me want to try a Magecraft-Addendum build.

Re: Strixhaven First Thoughts

The two biggest things that Strixhaven has done to get me to want to come back to Magic is having a set based around college, which relates to my current life situation as a student, and the fact that we'll get more details on post war Liliana, because if they have to kill off my favorite Planeswalk...

I thought the legality of XMage was questionable? I don't know the whole of the copyright laws or anything, but as far as I know it's in violation of them.

Re: humans humans humans

I will definitely say that, as a relatively newer fan of the game, the actual written "magic story" suffers somewhat from focusing so heavily on Planeswalkers and their wants rather then making them vessels to explore the various planes. Heck, the story of Zendikar Rising is basically &quo...

Re: humans humans humans

Honestly, sets that heavily feature humans tend to be some of my favorites. It might just be my bias as a Plains-hoarding White player talking, but I genuinely think that humans showing up in most every set gives us the chance to ask questions about who we are. What parts of our identity change depe...

Re: [STX] Two Strixhaven Planeswalkers

I guess with the new Kasmina you could take the uncommon planeswalkers from War of the Spark and increase their loyalty counters. This is a janky idea that would be a super underpowered use of the card, but you could do it.

Re: What's the Current State of MTG?

True, Commander was big at the game store I went to! Unfortunately I found that format to not really be my thing, mostly because 100 card decks are hard to build and even harder to shuffle (especially sleeved). Still, I like the concept, and maybe if paper Brawl makes a resurgence in one way or anot...

Re: What's the Current State of MTG?

Thank you very much for the reply! It's good to hear that things seem to be on the upswing in all those formats, which means choice won't be lacking. I'll be sure to consider the pros and cons of each ruleset.

What's the Current State of MTG?

Hello all, new user here. I'm beginning to gain interest in returning to MTG and actually trying to find a good community after about a year away, so I was curious if anyone could tell me about the current landscape of the game before I decide on where to go and what to do with the hobby. Which form...
