Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - ABUR Duals
Is this why so many untyped lands (Isolated Chapel et al) are hitting bulk rates? Because it's so much better to have all typed lands? While typed lands could be the reason why the check lands and such are getting cheaper, I think that repeated printings in sets with large print runs is more to bla...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Karametra's Acolyte
Yeah, Karametra's Acolyte has a pretty nice payoff even if you're using it fairly, with one or two other dorks on the field, netting three mana is nice, but honestly, outside of mono green, that's probably not the most likely outcome. Most of the time I'd rather play something like Migration Path , ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Planar Collapse
To me, this card seems like it will invite the person whose board is the biggest to swing at you with some of the scary creatures you're trying to blow up. Especially if that player's turn is right before yours. There is something to say about you having all your mana open to rebuild, but that does ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Saw in Half
Saw in Half is a rare removal spell that doesn't really function too well in EDH, but still has a place as a mono-black clone effect with a slight downside. The only reason I don't see it being great is because I rarely find myself killing a creature just because of its raw stats, mainly I'm concer...

Voltron is all in on commander damage and forcing it through quickly , while being hard to answer, That is how I been describing it as well but others made a good point about how Voltron specifically describes commander's with Aura and Equipment at the main strategy . Yeah, I'm kind of a middle pos...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Kaalia of the Vast
I've never sat down across from one before, but if I did, I would definitely be wary of it, because mana cheating is always good. Especially since a couple of decent demons, dragons and angels have been printed recently, such as Bloodletter of Aclazotz and Rakdos, Patron of Chaos.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
Yeah, often times it's not that those decks are taking over and dominating the game, but instead they draw inordinate amounts of aggro and leave the game as a 1v1v1 after the counterspell/theft player gets left with little/no resources. Obviously this isn't just a symptom of the decks they are playi...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
Recently I've started playing commander again with a different group due to moving for college and it's been a blast. I have no idea what most of their decks do and it is a lot of fun sitting down across the table from something and wondering what that deck is going to do. I will say, I only brought...

Re: Killer Whale Burn
Have you considered Tainted Strike or the enchantments that are adjacent to it Phyresis and Glistening Oil ? I'm not sure if the enchantments fit in with your reactive plan of popping Orca, Siege Demon , but I feel like Tainted Strike fits in really nicely and could let you achieve table killing Orc...

Drakuseth, Maw of Flames -A good card for you to keep and if you are going to give it away you can always try and make sure that the person you give it to won't point its ability towards your side of the board. Dream Trawler -Just another good card. Excellent in the long games. Desolation Twin -One...

Re: A totally-not-spam thread about abzan football
On the other hand, I feel like if we were representing our commander as the manager/coach of the football team, I feel like Kethis, the Hidden Hand is infinitely superior. Otherwise, if our commander is the captain, I agree that Doran, the Siege Tower is an excellent choice.

My favorite strategy is probably aristocrats, as I love playing out the value engine mid game and being able to to sneak a win from out of nowhere with a Living Death from hand just feels *chef's kiss*.

No matter what partner you choose, if you stick with a sacrifice theme you should add in Liesa, Forgotten Archangel . It kinda does what Athreos does without the political aspect. Also, if are you thinking of going further into an aristocrats theme, I think you definitely have enough aristocrats in ...

Have you tried some sort of art based restriction for a deck yet, Dirk? You can find cards that have art with specific things using scryfalls art filter. I wonder if that might limit you enough or if your new playgroup would be felled by hat tribal or something of the like.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ishkanah, Grafwidow
It's fun as a casual spider commander. Due to the lack of support for the tribe, you have to run things like Sight of the Scalelords , Blex, Vexing Pest // Search for Blex , Assault Formation and Ulvenwald Observer . However you basically never get to activate her ability, as there is a better optio...

The same person who made the graph that kind of sparked this whole discussion released an article in which they look at how many card draw and ramp effects are being printed in each color and how likely new cards in each color are to be included in a deck. Re: Commander Challenge Runs
I've had a few interesting ideas for working with restrictions when brewing decks, one being a deck that was completely color balanced with only multicolor cards and artifacts (of course helmed by Niv-Mizzet Reborn ). A few others that I haven't actually built around but have thought of are: a rhymi...
