Re: The Shattered Realm: Mechanical
Just saw a post from Maro on Blogatog that I think could be helpful when we get to this stage: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2021-03-22

Re: The Shattered Realm: Mechanical
I've always wanted to do an enchantment set, but I didn't want my biased to push it too much >_< The question then becomes, how does the enchantment theme fit in with the flavor? So we know that the general land itself is (at least somewhat) magical. Floatstone, driftrocks, etc. This could easily b...

Re: The Shattered Realm: Mechanical
The question then becomes, how does the enchantment theme fit in with the flavor? That is a good question. I think I could see enchantments representing the mystic powers of the Elves magical spider weaving, or possibly weather patterns studied by the Thalakos? Maybe something like this? Airachnidi...

Re: The Shattered Realm: Mechanical
I'm against making this an out-and-out "faction set" but for making it an enchantment-matters one; indeed, flying matters and enchantment matters were the first two themes that came to mind for me. I'd be down for enchantments. There have been at least two artifact centric planes (Mirrodi...

Re: [Assorted] Venedrex's Villa
I'll mostly critique the mechanics here rather than the specific cards. Hierarchy - Sure, this is much less broken than affinity. The name fits Bant of course and I like the "hit your curve matters" gameplay. Bant Tempo is a sensible archetype to promote. Challenge - I'm not actually sure...

[Assorted] Venedrex's Villa
Inspired by SecretInfiltrator's SecretBase, this is where I will be putting all my crazy ideas for mechanics and cards. I'll probably throw out a card or mechanic here every once
in a while, so if you find anything here interesting, check back occasionally for updates.

Re: The Shattered Realm: Creative
Note: The above concepts aren't pure 2-color, it's rooted in their main color with influence from their secondary. In example, the Viashino bear little resemblance to the science-loving Izzet; they are red first with blue guiding and changing their core values. They believe in freedom, but their im...

Re: The Shattered Realm: Creative
Reminder: The soltari/etc that we saw on Rath happened over 400 years ago. While some of their core should remain the same so we recognize them, we do not have to be at all restricted to who they were. 400 years is a lot of time to grow, etc. I was thinking the same, however that is more of a discu...

The Shattered Realm: Mechanical
As de facto set design lead, I am pleased to launch the official thread for the mechanical side of the set project. Original brief: 1. The Shattered Realm: A world wherein all land masses float, literally, in the sky. Think a cross between Serra's Realm and Zendikar and you wouldn't be far off the r...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
It was good, I may have been a bad tester because I didn't really give any feedback on the game, but I didn't feel my opinion would have been that beneficial. It was fun knowing that I got to play before almost everyone else, and it caught me by surprise because I had forgotten signing up for it. I ...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
*NFL Ref Voice* Upon reviewing of the play, the ruling on the field stands. In all seriousness, based on looking at haunt on instants and sorceries, I'm good with allowing this to be treated as a variant of Cipher and qualify for the purposes of this round. The fact that Maro described the original ...

Re: The Shattered Realm: Creative
That does sound cool. I like the idea of making weaving a part of the elf lore and flavor, since as you mentioned it fits so well with the elves relationship to spiders.

Re: The CCL Discussion Thread
Lorn Asbord Schutta I'm really sorry, I just realized I broke the rules on my card about both sides being the same color. I even saw what you said, then just got so excited about finding a word combo I went right on ahead and forgot about it. I'm not sure if you want me to stay in since the card is...

Re: The Shattered Realm: Creative
I kinda like the idea of near mindless kobolds that swarm and consume. Considered by most sapient races as more of a natural disaster or a plague of vermin that needs to be dealt with immediately than another sapient race. That's a good way to distinguish them from Goblins as we normally see them, ...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
@Venedrex I don't want to pile on, but I think you should re-check your math to make sure it's all tallied up properly. Just for example, I see that Riria's judgement has three deductions that are for half-point values, and yet the total is a whole number, which doesn't check out. No problem, shoul...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread
Well, the judges are subjective after all and they hold right to have their own opinion and futhermore it is not about assesment of my submission, but there are few things I would like to point out, and because the first round might close as well today, there will be little time for appeal. Polish ...

Re: March MCC Round 1: Dredging Up The Past
Design (2/3) Appeal l - Spike is somewhat interested in this as the card is worth about four to three mana but requires at least one card to be discarded to get there. Jxnny sees little room for strange combos or clever interactions outside of madness cards, and Txmmy probably finds this card somew...

Re: The Shattered Realm: Creative
One thought I had the other night about the three races was how they each represent the sky in a way. I know that is pretty obvious already, but even in terms of color pie I think the flavor of these creature types is spot on. For instance, the Soltari are primarily white mana aligned, and they repr...
