Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

How can anyone even attempt to defend Wizards anymore with how bad this %$#% has gotten. 4/6 of the cards on the current standard banlist are UG colors and despite this the only color combination thats good in standard is UGx. Honestly how does it even get to this point Surely this is something tha...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Thats certainly part of the point. Enfranchised, Competitive, 'Casual Competitive' players take the biggest hit. True Casuals? Dont care. Just give them some random crap that they can throw into an EDH deck, and play once every few weeks, and call it a day. Pros? Dont care. Whatever is busted/best, ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Fixes start by players STOPPING BUYING and STOPPING PLAYING. Unfortunately, we don't have GPs (which WOTC is probably thrilled about) because their likely horrendously poor attendance levels would be a clear indicator of unhealthy unrest present in basically every format. But additionally, STUFF KE...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Standard is and has been so bad. Like mind blowing bad.

I've mentioned this before, but ramp being the best deck is never good for a format.

Standard will be even worse unless some aggro gets a few cards soon.

Anyone know what the 'real' Modern winners meta is right now? Without real events to look at, is Goldfish the best we have?

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I disagree. Veil is far more in line with Legacy level of power, than it is Modern. Even if its more applicable because its the 'blue' format, it can more easily be absorbed into the format. In Modern, its so far out of the range of acceptable, and it simply dunks on archetypes that dont need to be ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Pyroblast, Modal - 1 of 2 options. Counter Target Blue Destroy Target Blue. Powerful, 1 for 1. Veil - Draw a card if opponent has cast a Blue OR Black Card. Spells you control (any spells!) cannot be countered for the remainder of the Turn. (Proactive Protection) You AND Permanents (ALL!!) gain prot...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Thats essentially just saying (in Modern) 'forget about playing your deck as it's intended'. This is not some warped thing like Dredge vs RIP. or Leylines vs Storm (which runs several bounce spells for this very reason). This is a flawed balance of power between archetypes based on 1 massive mistake...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

. Veil is never 'totally fine'. Its a massive mistake. You should not get to say no to U and B on the stack, in the colour which already gets massive advantages on the board as well, and do so at a rate that is comical within a historical context. Indefensible card. The card being busted is not an ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

True, and same as T3feri. Both are great examples of absolutely horrid design, that unfortunately are not overpowering, and as such are tolerated despite being philosophically flawed more so than 99% of card designs printed.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Yeah I read some threads on it, and I am hopeful that we are not about to see a purge of things like Demons, and Angels, and whatever on basic religious grounds.

It looks more like some very targeted removal of card name + art or card name + flavor text, that has problematic connotations.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I'd say Veil is worse than both of those. There are way too many things Veil does, or stops, its just a gross card.

It and T3feri are probably the worst things I've seen, that are not so strong as to get banned immediately, but should be.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

For example, in Ixalan Conquistadors are bloodthirsty vampires that seek to subjugate the natives and are not depicted as holy/righteous warriors or something similar. So this one, I thought back to a different fandom and the Inquisition, and Conquistadors. I was surprised to see this done in Ixala...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Yes, I know. That speaks to the issue. Is 'Crusade' an insult? A slur, or a (several) events which where justified as holy wars? I'm going to be honest, my opinion on 'Religion' all of it, is very low. I love Fantasy because...religion makes sense there. If you remove aspects of fantasy because they...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Yeah, huge reach to think otherwise. There are clear reasons behind this, its got nothing to do with balance or anything. When they say 'problematic' they mean for racial, religious, or societal reasons. The issue is that it is a slippery slope, today the mob demanded one card, and now on twitter t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I mean, I guess, potentially.

However it would seem incredibly unlikely. That card that provoked all this would never ever see print like that again, even if it was not on the reserve list, with the art it had.

Re: Meaningful reprints and Core 2021

I'm going to strongly disagree with this statement. If Standard has access to super-efficient removal, then that makes cards like Baneslayer Angel effectively unplayable... while the Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath and Bonecrusher Giant s of the world are the only things worth playing, because they ge...

Re: Meaningful reprints and Core 2021

Oubliette would be nigh-unplayable in standard. When was the last time you've seen a serious deck play Murder? Yeah, me neither. What this Standard desperately needs is efficient CMC 1 answers - StoP, Bolt et al. They keep printing runaway CMC 3 threats that would've blown people's minds in 1993 bu...
