Re: Did Partners change how you view/play the format? If so, how?
I don't have any kind of meta lately and feel simultaneously forced and disincentivized to buy new cards, since I either need to bite the bullet and get into Commander or else give up on playing or even talking about M:TG with anyone ever again. The influx of new Commander-only cards is overwhelmin...

Re: Did Partners change how you view/play the format? If so, how?
My regular playgroup hasn't played since March so I expect that a few people might pick up partners when we get back together, but I don't really anticipate a significant meta change. I say that based on the fact that the original partners didn't make a splash at all. The only partner deck anyone ma...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I've found that I enjoy the game a lot more when I'm not playing every staple bomb in every deck it can possibly be played in. T&N is a good example - I have 4 green decks, run it in 2 of them, and only have Craterhoof +Avenger in 1 deck. It was easy to cut T&N from the other decks because i...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
Scrambleverse may be the single most miserable card to resolve in the history of Magic. Our group resolved it 1 time and everyone agreed to never play it again.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I think that playing commander also changes things in a big way as far as selling collections. I remember selling off collections once or twice in the past before commander really caught on and when I have sold out of standard / modern things I really haven't regretted that because when you come ba...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Bonecrusher Giant
I've never used this guy but shutting off prevention at instant speed (particularly Fogs) can't be underestimated for red decks. I'll definitely be considering it moving forward.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
Historically I've always discouraged people from selling their collections because anyone I've ever known to do it eventually regrets it, but that was before prices reached their current level of absurdity AND a lot of people have lost their playgroups\stores. I'll probably never sell unless I'm in ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I can relate. Personally having a baby has made it hard, but also pandemic, and actually most of all is just the absolutely blistering pace of releases from WotC this year has been absurd. Keeping up with set reviews for my primers and curating lists with recent changes let alone finding time to ac...

I decided to work on some decks yesterday for the first time since March and boy is it difficult. Going to take a while to get back intot he deckbuilding mindset.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Stolen Identity
In the Prophet of Kruphix days, aka when clones ruled the world, we saw this at our table almost every game. I certainly don't miss it or Followed Footsteps for that matter.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Smoke
I've run it before in various Boros punisher decks and I've always been happy with it. Has the added bonus of making mana dorks and utility creatures beyond the first very bad. Doesn't do squat against haste-based finishers but for 2 mana it does a lot of work.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Larry Niven is really weird and interesting. My gut reaction is that he's similar to Child of Alara but can actually generate a board presence. He'll probably be bad and annoying but I dig it.

We did the same thing at school except we hosted a BBS and an FTP site for pirated music. Until we got caught for excessive bandwidth that is. Didn't even get suspended, got to love the 90's.

Same. In highschool a buddy and I actually worked for a while on our own CircleMUD. We actually had quite a bit of content. I don't really remember why we stopped but I'm sure it involved chasing girls, World of Darkness, or Command and Conquer.

It's fun to find out Cryo is a fellow old person and MUDer. Learn something new everyday. I'm old so this is my 3rd generation nick. About 15 years ago I was trying to come up with a name for a Hag D&D character so I figured it needed to be somewhat simplistic, plus I like to use adjectives for ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Agent is just another card that turns you into public enemy #1. It's a great card but these things have a tendency to work themselves out. It's pretty centralizing and I don't really love that part, but it's not going to be a card like Sylvan Primordial or Prophet of Kruphix that has to be removed b...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
My biggest issue with planeswalker commanders and walkers archetypes is that they tend to slow down games a lot and play in such a way that draws games out for a long time. They often heavy on creature defenses and or creature sweepers and the loyalty of the walkers also helps preserve life totals ...

Re: Cards that punch well above their asking price
I'll just go with one for now - Master Warcraft I wouldn't exactly call it a hidden gem but it can generate some major blowouts and since you should always be playing Sunforger in these colors it has incredible offensive and defensive potential.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
2D side scrollers in my opinion aged very well. I think most of the handheld ones are worth revisiting but some of the more original versions back on NES might be a bit rougher. I think the game got a lot better after they started adding leveling and inventory setup rather than just having one or t...

For my buck the best Castlevania games are Symphony of the Night style (often referred to as Igavanias based off one of their designers). Symphony itself is a great game well worth the time, although I personally enjoy any of the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS Castlevania games just as much. The de...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I've only seen the first 2 seasons but I've really enjoyed it. As a big fan of the games there are a few moments where the score kicked in and it literally gave me goosebumps. One of the best game adaptations of all time.
