Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

Interesting to see a Mentor list. I did brew one, but I didn't touch it in a month. My 75 is: Lands (22) 4 Flooded Strand 4 Polluted Delta 5 Island 1 Swamp 1 Plains 2 Hallowed Fountain 2 Watery Grave 1 Godless Shrine 2 Celestial Colonnade Creatures (8) 4 Snapcaster Mage 4 Monastery Mentor Spells (30...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

BUG Snow has always felt strong to me, honestly (Coatl and the Snow Toxic Deluge are real cards).

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

Obviously punished in the mirror, little Teferi before and Narset then. He is way too conservative with his decklists (no D-Sphere, Force, Hero's Downfall... the mirror can be a bloodbath).

Re: [Primer] Esper Draw-Go Control

Thats what i meant He meant you can't bin Think Twice with Force and then flashback it. - - - - - Had another good run, this time with Esper. I decided I wanted those Hero's Downfall to win the mirror and make Jund easier: Lands (24) 4 Polluted Delta 4 Flooded Strand 2 Watery Grave 2 Hallowed Fount...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I do think people are just too lazy to try alternatives. I know UW is great (and I play it since Modern's inception) but in the last two months I've been trashing my local leagues with Blue Moon, and yet nobody cares about thinking it may be good again (with the addition of new cards) because, simpl...

Re: [deck] Esper Shadow

I also tried - intensively - Mardu. While I liked some points (Arcanist is a great card, the possibility of playing TBR is another) IMHO there's no way that playing less than four Stubborn Denial is correct. They are simply too strong in the metagame. Another point is having access to Delve threats ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

It may not be very indicative, but as predicted Izzet Phoenix has now to make its own way in a field full of negative matchups. But anyone who played the deck already noticed it,

Re: [Deck] Esper Draw-Go Control

You should just evaluate when Path to Exile is good and Fatal Push is bad (Green Tron, Dredge and the likes of them), or the other way around (Burn, Red Prowess, Shadow Zoo). Then, consider when discard spells are actually going to help (Combo, Control, Big Mana),

[deck] BWx Shadow

Is someone still playing it? I'm enjoying running Ranger-Captain of Eos right now. This is the list I'm set on: Lands (19) 4 Polluted Delta 3 Marsh Flats 3 Flooded Strand 2 Watery Grave 1 Godless Shrine 1 Hallowed Fountain 1 Swamp 1 Plains 1 Island 2 Silent Clearing Creatures (18) 4 Street Wraith 4 ...

Re: [Deck] Esper Draw-Go Control

Hero's Downfall + Counterspells + sideboard Thoughtseize are a very good starting point vs UW. UW is, generally speaking, a better deck than Dimir, but the latter has the upper hand in the mirror and against things such as Eldrazi Tron (where I easily sb out Pushes, while UW can't cut Path because t...

Re: [Deck] Esper Draw-Go Control

Games were against: Humans 2-1 Sultai Snow 2-0 Mono Red Phoenix 2-1 Dredge 2-1 UW Control 2-0 I decided to go with UB because I think it may be better positioned compared to UW thanks to Hero's Downfall and Thoughtseize in the board, given the current metagame, but I didn't want to run three colors ...

Re: [Deck] Izzet Phoenix

So. I went back to my initial version, which is the one I find the most comfortable with. Lands (17) 4 Scalding Tarn 3 Fiery Isle 4 Spirebluff Canal 3 Island 1 Mountain 2 Steam Vents Creatures (11) 4 Thing in the Ice 4 Arclight Phoenix 3 Crackling Drake Spells (32) 4 Faithless Looting 4 Manamorphose...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

By the way, Jeskai Twin has been my very favorite deck in Modern, and the one I was most successful with (except a small parenthesis with U-Tron in a non-hostile metagame). I also am convinced that the current cantrips are powerful enough.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

For the third or fourth time now: it looks like we will learn a lot in the next four events. Until then, everything is speculation and opinion about a chaotic meta that no longer exists Then why do you keep contradicting yourself? First is ‘Looting is too good, Phoenix had too many good results, sh...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

It has been months that Izzet Phoenix win rate isn’t the best, even if it keeps being one of the most played archetype. I really don’t get all of this hate for a Tier that has the same power level of numerous other decks,

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

How can someone relate even remotely a Burn deck that happens to play Phoenix with a ‘proper’ Phoenix deck?

People really tend to exaggerate.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I found Modern plenty of interaction and very fun at the moment. Not everybody has the same parameters, but I was enjoying it in Twin times and I still am nowadays.

Re: [Deck] Esper Draw-Go Control

While I thought that the previous iterations of Esper Trascendent (as it was called before) were hot garbage, discard into three mana walkers is MUCH more effective than discard into Lingering Souls . Keeping Cryptic Command to deal with big stuff (Tron non-creatures, Primeval Titan etc.,.) is certa...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

The same people defending Phoenix have also, over the last several years, berated, insulted, and demoralized anyone who had the audacity to say Twin was fine or its ban was a mistake To be fair, myself and several others were a Twin players before switching to Phoenix (some time after). I don’t see...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

You know. I share the ideal that cards such as Splinter Twin and Stoneforge Mystic shouldn’t really be banned, as the format is right now. But I don’t see your argument about Izzet Phoenix being a ‘better version’ of other decks, Bloo is an archetype which with I had the best winrate in Hogaak domin...

Re: [Deck] Izzet Phoenix

I was playing the full set before, and I was happier. But I needed to make space for additional cantrips, which are valuable with Aria (which is too good to replace it with Drakes).

Surgical were always ‘meh’ in my experience with the deck.
