Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - North Star

Paint me a picture of the best possible north star deck, I'm genuinely drawing a blank. EDIT: okay, wait, maybe I've got it - make a big-colorless-mana deck that has a bunch of colorless draw engines but all the actual finishers are colored, and you need north star to cast them. That deck sounds ex...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - North Star

I think it's in strong contention for the worst cards of all time. It costs an absurd amount of mana before you can do something with it, and by that point you shouldn't need it anyway. It has the chromatic lantern problem where you can't rely on it for your fixing, but if you aren't using it for f...

Re: Spell and bouncelands

I've been playing a couple of bounce lands in my Esika that runs as many MDFC as possible for a while. It's been really nice to bounce stuff like Ondu Inversion // Ondu Skyruins.

Re: Creating a deck for a friend

I'm going to build an EDH deck for a friend mine who lives out of town. You have friends? Is it as good as people make it out to be? It's great. Would recommend. My experience teaching new players over the years indicates it can be very person-specific*. This is less of a teaching deck for him to l...

Creating a deck for a friend

I'm going to build an EDH deck for a friend mine who lives out of town. He's played the game a little but it would mostly be for him to use when he visits. Most of my decks I build for myself rely on really weird cards and fairly complicated synergies. I'm kind of at loss for how to build a deck tha...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - End-Raze Forerunners

End-Raze Forerunners is dramatically better than Craterhoof Behemoth because Craterhoof Behemoth's trigger usually causes me bodily harm with how hard I roll my eyes. I can't imagine the suffering I'd go through if I tried to sleeve one up for myself. Be like Dracula picking up a cross.

Re: [MCD] Trash or Treasure: New Card Testing and Results

Gishath, Sun's Avatar - I got to one shot someone with True Conviction and Legion Leadership // Legion Stronghold . Which is to say this Legion Leadership is exactly as powerful as I expected it to be in that deck. The following turn my entire board got goaded but I still managed to kill both remai...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Balefire Dragon

Outside of Kaalia , how good is this actually? Do you run Arena of Glory in your deck? If so, it'll probably Plague Wind someone and then demand removal. That sounds pretty good to me, but Nevinyrral's Disk conversation implied 7 mana was too much for a Wrath of God . Personally, I think this card ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nevinyrral's Disk

I don't really agree. 7-8 is way too slow in this economy when you need a sweep. Obviously you play them out of necessity, but they can't be how you rely on staving off the early rush. Selective Obliteration is pretty reasonable at 5 even if it does miss mono-colour decks. But it is an exile and th...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nevinyrral's Disk

Monday, June 10th 2024; Nevinyrral's Disk|3ed Nevinyrral's Disk|3ed Still one of if not THE best in colourless sweepers. I'll take a cheaper but EBT sweeper over a 8mv investment to sweep anyday. Plus the political aspects of the rattlesnake that forces players to slow down. There's a reason Modern...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Idk about best of any media, there's a lot of really dumb world building, but it's certainly very good and the best part of the franchise. Worded to be a hot take but I stand behind it. I mean the Star Wars universe and IP as a whole not necessarily the specific execution for a single story. Like D...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

People only like Star Wars because they watched it with their dads on a lazy Sunday afternoon when.they were 7 years old. It's pure nostalgia. I'm also convinced that's why so many people hate the newer stuff with a burning passion. They aren't 7 any more, watching it didn't give them the emotional...

Re: 30+ Creature Type Changeling Tribal

Any new cards people have had success with lately? I unfortunately haven't had much time recently to play and try out anything new... have a large backlog of cards to get :( I haven't played my Changeling deck in quite a while. It's a bit too strong for my meta. The most recent additions I have are...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I'm doing some fun data analysis on my decks. I'll post overly in depth analysis later. The biggest thing that has jumped out at me so far is in my High CMC on 16 of the original 100 cards remain. That amount of card turnover is kinda crazy.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Honestly I didn't hate 8, though there was some cringe and it did feel like things were going a bit off the rails. But 9 was really the one that told me that Disney Star Wars wasn't going to come with any guarantee of quality. MST3K levels of bad. 8 informed me there was no plan, no coherent vision...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The Golden Throne

As someone that knew nothing about 40k, I always thought the "a thousand souls die everyday" was supposed to be evoking some grand perspective, like this chair sees so much death that it is meaningless to him. The real answer is much less interesting to me. … I'm confused. Isn't that exac...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

This is the way. I also thought The Mandalorian was mediocre, for what it's worth, but Star Wars fans clearly aren't known for their discerning taste. I think I enjoyed the Mandalorian more than both of you by a decent bit. I think it aimed to be a fun little self-contained kids adventure show. I t...

Re: Control Commanders in 2024

I think a lot of struggles here are pretty metagame based. If you're in a beat people to death with Craw Wurm s on the back of Chulane, Teller of Tales battlecruiser metagame your control deck is going to look different than dealing with Henzie "Toolbox" Torre glass cannons. If you're figh...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Managed to watch all of season 1 of the Mandalorian. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but that was shockingly mid. Why was that such a phenomenon? Andor was way more interesting. All I could think for the mandalorian was "why is this dude a bounty hunter when he never wants to hurt anyone or...

@Toshi
I played against a bunch of precons with cards that I ignored. Vashta Nerada seems pretty perfect. Protection, growth and evasion in one little package. Also, I'm jamming Psychic Frog in here. I haven't gotten any games in with this recently to report though.

Re: Esika - Worst Mana Curve Ever

It's always hard to classify decks like this. It kinda reminds me of one turn slower xenagos (though it's similar to the speed of my zen build) It's a midrange burn deck. You can't tell by glancing at it but it's a burn deck. There's come cute synergies to dump a pile of creatures into play but tha...

Re: Esika - Worst Mana Curve Ever

Another bumpy bump. Played several games this past weekend. Conspiracy Unraveler is basically a 7mana Omniscience . Hit someone for 30 with a Palantír of Orthanc trigger which was hilarious. Just added a bunch of the modern horizon 3 flip lands. This deck really wants to hit GG on turn 3 so I don't ...
