Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

If you really want a flying tutor, there's Isperia the Inscrutable. Rather slow to get working, but still a valid option. It might also be good that she almost turns on Ephara by herself. Lavinia is the only bear that I'm truly not certain about. The rest offer very relevant utility: Meddling Mage i...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Nice recap. I think you're starting to get why Artisans is such a powerhouse. Here's my current list (mana base here is not updated): Ephara Flash Hatebears Commander Ephara, God of the Polis Creatures 1 Weathered Wayfarer 1 Phantasmal Image 1 Gold Myr 1 Stormscape Familiar 1 Hushbringer 1 Lavinia, ...

Re: Lord Windgrace

The only dedicated overrun effect which I would run in this list is the big goat . It's better with big creatures than Craterhoof Behemoth which is the other dedicated overrun effect that's worth consideration. 3CMC nissa was mentioned because she can be a very scary menace with Evo Sage - creating ...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens

I forgot about the part with Convoke not working out that way! That is disappointing, though I guess it's good that some interactions aren't that broken... My meta has several copies of Glen-Elendra Archmage and some more counterspells, and there are definitely some people that - if they see you put...

Re: Ruric Thar, Take Six

Ruric Thar control is awesome! It really allows you to think in different ways and come up with new plays no one was expecting. However, I do have some questions: It really does seem like you're still a bit dependent on your commander, so why not slot in Lightning Greaves instead of one-shot Hexproo...

Re: Lord Windgrace

I like big value plays, and Windgrace can certainly perform them well, but I feel like it's not a good enough game plan on its own. My Windgrace list does several things differently to yours: 1. There's more early game stuff, and you'd be surprised at how incredibly effective it can be despite being...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens

As an Ephara, God of the Polis player, I love Kykar and envy his color identity. Jeskai is much cooler than azorius. However, I have several disagreements with your list: Firstly, you have no real way of card advantage. Beyond Skullclamp and the Delve cards, all your draw spells do not impact the to...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

If your fetch density is reaching critical mass I strongly recommend Brought Back. If your first two lands are fetches, you can pop both then cast it with the lands you brought into play, which gives you Ephara mana on T3. In addition you can wait on a fetchland if you have it in hand, then pop a Re...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Okay, so I'll detail my thought process on Hatebears. It's a very important topic for me in this deck, since it's most of my deck's mid-game plan. The main idea with hatebears, is that instead of a typical stax/control gameplan of slotting tons of counterspells or removal spells, we can use creature...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

I'm rather quiet since my schedule has been hectic lately, but I've just ordered a bunch of stuff for Ephara and am debating between several strong toolkits on what to run and what of each to run. The short version is blink & value, hatebears, creature beats, combo, enchantments. The longer vers...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Tokens of Appreciation

I guess it's mostly a meta thing, then, because in my meta there is no way that kind of slow play would be enough. There is no guarantee of early board safety, because there is a Krenko deck that can kill you by turn 5 or 6. There is no guarantee of lands' safety, because both Maelstrom Wanderer and...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Tokens of Appreciation

So this is a stax deck and should be treated as such. That means you want to work really hard on mana denial as well as card and spell denial that you're already invested in. Mana vortex, Mana breach and AEther Barrier seem like a good start, not to mention the ever famous Winter Orb. And running Az...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Tokens of Appreciation

I have a fair amount of thoughts to share on this deck, but for now let's address the biggest issue: How does this deck win? It's a difficult question to answer for pokken's deck as well, but at least he can aspire for a combo win and has the tools for it. On the other hand, your deck is only full o...

Re: Rakdos, Demonic Stax

I feel like Krrik is too risky. Your deck is already not the best at defense and with hardly any ways to gain life. Gaining real value from him is 4+ life for each creature which can be surprisingly taxing, not to mention that getting him out properly probably means you're already down 8 life before...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

The way I look at it is that flash creatures deserve their own category in our deck, since they are vital to our game plan. Even if there are better non-flash options, the flash ones deserve consideration on their own since flash play is such an important part of how we play - they allow utilizing t...

Re: Rakdos, Demonic Stax

Nice to see you joining the fray. I almost thought you retired the deck! How has Neheb turned out for you? He looks a bit conditional to me. I'm also surprised you run 4 Mana Neheb instead of 5 Mana Neheb. I'm taking a longer look at Rankle for your deck. He can force discard and sac while hitting f...

Re: Tatyova, Benthic Druid: We bounce a lot.

No Elvish Reclaimer? If it makes waves in Legacy it's probably good for you. Also surprised at your lack of Crop Rotation. In fact I think you're missing out on a ton of important toolbox lands that go great with these two cards. Lands are something Green tutors for pretty easily, that's one of the ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

If we mentioned sac outlets and how awesome they are, I am definitely thinking about Sower of Temptation. Blinking it can always be great to mess with combat, it's great to steal static effects and commanders like Maelstrom Wanderer. With a sac outlet it becomes blinkable removal. It's also Recruita...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

My rationale on DTT is that its main asset is its flexibility, which isn't really relevant in this deck. We appreciate cheap cards that we can recur to hand or flashback for value, as well as Tutor, and DTT is none of those in essence. We're sad when it's in our opening hand and we're sad to have it...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

As someone who can't afford a Mana Crypt, I'm sad that I won't get to play around with that combo - Sol Ring alone is not efficient enough. I don't think I'll run Tyrant without the possibility to combo off, because it's cumbersome and expensive. Ephemerate seems strong for you, both because of Arch...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

That combo kill is actually much more valid with an ETB or LTB abuse card. Soulherder is definitely not the best of them in my opinion. The most obvious is Altar of the Brood . Tutorable by Trinket Mage and costs almost no mana, also great with the Tidesprout combo with something like Mana Crypt. Al...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

I think Hushbringer is a card that is very critical, and can even be a two-sided sword. There is just an insane amount of death triggers in MTG and this is a card that can break them for better or for worse. Leonin Relic-Warder , Fiend Hunter , Spell Queller become absurd with a sac outlet. Angel of...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Brazen Borrower is way better than Capsize in my opinion (excluding bouncing lands), at least in our deck. Firstly it's Recruitable, which makes it way more easily accessible than Capsize. Secondly, if you're not able to pay 6 mana right away, it's much easier to play and better to have than Capsiz...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

We were hoping for an endgame card for a long time, and I think we found one. The archon is just nuts by all accounts. I view it as a psuedo Elesh Norn, except we can blink this guy for value. Slam dunk for me for sure. I support the combo a lot less so I think I'll take out Sun Titan, though that's...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

I'm surprised you're not gushing about the reveillark-able Flickerwisp that is Charming Prince. It's also a great solution for your lifegain problem, one that doesn't require flipping creatures face up or down.
