Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens

You guys did it and have convinced to build a deck of Kykar alongside my Ephara. It'll take me a while to get the optimal cards, but here are some which I really think will pull their weight: Dictate of Heliod - coolest combat trick ever. Along the same lines is Force of Virtue, except that card can...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

http://www.magicspoiler.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Thassa-Deep-Dwelling.png?x96163 WHAT Note that if Thassa blinks a stolen creature, it returns as under your control permanently. I think that we can officially say that this set is spoiling us like the brats we are. I will definitely look into ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

I'm honestly very surprised at your response. A. We do run more bounce creatures. Stonecloaker is also a card, as is Venser, Shaper Savant . B. The entire point of our deck is casting spells during opponents' turns. True, it doesn't work on tokens we create, but it does work on noncreatures we cast,...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

So Wavebreak Hippocamp is a card, and it's pretty much a second Ephara. It's 2/2, so it's recruitable and Reveillarkable. It's an enchantment, so it can be recurred by Hall of Heliod's Generosity . It's 2U , so it's affordable. And it's a Horse Fish, because why not. I honestly can't imagine running...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Triskelion seems much better than Ballista for our build in my eyes. It's still recruitable, and we don't even have to pay it - we can discard it then reanimate it with Lark / Guide / Vesperlark, or even manifest it then blink it back face up. If someone disrupts the combo we can blink it in respons...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Why would you play that in your current build? It gives lifelink, which is good for fat creatures which we don't run, and grows creatures by 1 only when we gain life, which is something that virtually never happens. It's good in a lifegain build to be certain, but otherwise it doesn't tickle my fanc...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Phyrexian Altar is certainly possible since it's a combo with Arch + Brought Back + any other creature. The colored Mana is also best to cast more stuff with to keep the Ephara train rolling. However I don't think it's a must have. Altars are dead cards without sac fodder, and our deck wants to be p...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens

A creature that I've come to respect is Nin, the Pain Artist. She's great with your tokens because you can dump a bunch of Mana into her ability at instant speed and draw a bunch of cards, plus she's (bad) removal if you really need it. There's also a card that's great with them both but might be wi...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Manifest is a mechanic closely tied with the magic of Ugin and with that of Tarkir. Theros has nothing to do with it. Scroll of Fate has also been printed since. I have all 3 cards and consider them from time to time. I'm testing the Scroll, which I believe to be the best of them. An important inter...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Dawn of Hope comes to mind, but it seems too slow and too light on the lifegain itself. It seems better than Mastery in a creature light version, but in your deck Mastery is the better fit.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Oh definitely. Only viable for a spirit build, and slow and clunky either way. My build only lacks Cleansing Nova, but I wouldn't want to blow up artifacts since I had so many rocks. That's why Austere Command was on my mind. Another point in retrospect is that Scroll Rack is another card that drew ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Finished a game with the Online version. Opponents are: Brudiclad, Atraxa, and Neheb, the Eternal . I start with T1 Ring + Mox Diamond into T2 Ephara, but on their turns Neheb casts Defense Grid , and to rub it in Atraxa casts Teferi, Time Raveler . This vexes me greatly, but I go on seeing as there...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

I have Scroll Rack in my deck in place of most peoples' Top. The tax+rack combo is well known in its power, plus I like Rack's ability to set Miracle plays and shuffle away bad hands with fetchlands and the like. If nothing else it effectively doubles hand size. I also like my ability to tutor for i...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

So I've been thinking about other cards for Ephara, and I remembered that pokken dislikes Containment Priest because of all the blink and recursion nonbos. I came across Mistcaller, and I think it could be really good. It only disables shenanigans for a limited window, and since the effect is until ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Shepherd is best in a deck with green in it because of the extra landfall triggers, as well as a bunch of fat permanents to bring back into play. It depends somewhat on your meta, but Avacyn is usually the best card out of that list. However, if you're looking to play against big evasive creatures, ...

Re: Rakdos, Demonic Stax

I actually like Retreat to Hagra less than the rats. Drain 1 is cute but inessential, and is only 1 lifeloss more than the rats. The rats do need to wait a round, but they cost 1 less which is important, and every time they hit you get a 3 for 1 trade on your worst card. Even better if you're hellbe...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

No way it locks down the board if it costs 5 and gets rid of one creature. If it were to cost 2 less it would be incredible, but that would probably be too much to ask. It's a good idea for sure, and powerful if there's such a thing as a pauper EDH deck, but definitely not good enough as it currentl...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

I think the missing link to land tax effects (which I also prioritize) is Walking Atlas. I don't play it anymore because the list is really tight, but it's an instant speed Exploration after the first round it comes out, plus it draws a card on entry. It is definitely a card worth considering to run...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

If heavy artifact mana is thecase Lavinia, Azorius Renegade doesn't even let them cast one spell. Being asymmetrical and countering free spells also helps.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

It depends on the playgroup, but Thalia, Guardian of Traben can fill a similar role for now. She is phenomenal on the defense for her cost, and can be brutal for early noncreatues as well as multiple noncreatures. She is symmetrical, so that can also set us back a bit, however I find that she can be...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

Sower is already in my maybeboard and considered, second easiest to slot in would be Cloudseeder in place of Scroll of Fate since both ditch cards for creatures - one is just more tutorable. You also forgot to mention Unsettled Mariner which technically meets the criteria and is also in my maybeboar...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

Alms Collector is a meta card, much like Aven Mindcensor . In fact I see all hatebears as meta cards, and listed them with my impression of them as an Ephara player here: https://www.mtgnexus.com/viewtopic.php?p=48515#p48515 For example, my meta doesn't have a lot of wheels, so Alms Collector would...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

You are technically running Sun Titan which is great to overcome the deficits of Lotus Field. I currently play 4 faeries: Artisans, Glen Elendra, Hushbringer, Brazen Borrower. If I were to go by your assumptions, I'd simply need to find 2 more playable faeries before slotting in Cloud and Spellstutt...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash Hatebears

I'm looking into a second combo to back up the first: Cloud of Faeries + Archaeomancer + Brought Back + Altar of Dementia . Sac Arch and Cloud to the Altar then cast Brought Back targeting them. Arch returns BB to your hand while Cloud untaps the mana you just used. It's worth mentioning that, like ...
