I would rather downgrade the utility, from Nature's Lore to Rampant Growth, and have it trigger more often, namely every time the creature attacks. Oh, look, it already exists! It's Sword of Rampant Growth!
I strongly believe that if that card did not make the list, this should not be considered.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
If you're upping your noncreature count and losing sweepers, Monastery Mentor demands to be slotted in. It can be yet another way to reinforce that beats plan. About the hawk. At best, it's a repeatable Nature's Lore that draws you a card, but that is the very best. It won't reward you if you're not...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Like you said, you're mostly using it for instant speed interaction, so I'm not really trying to criticize you. Being a slower, less competitive deck means you can use more expensive cards without as much punishment as you'd have gotten if you were trying to be more competitive. Also, less competiti...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
A 4/3 flier for 6 does not impress me, even if it has flash and a single bounce. Any card that I want to consistently beat down with has to be reliable, and a card that dies to bolt does not cut that criteria for me. How awkward is AEtherling with mana, when you already run the Kraken? Granted, AEth...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
A card that screams beats much more strongly than Dream Eater is a card that you'd already played, and that's Aetherling. Ain't no other card like it.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I disagree. While Flickerwisp definitely does all kinds of shenanigans in Legacy, and while Stoneforge Mystic is a monster in any deck with both Sword of Fire and Ice and Umezawa's Jitte , I see the real MVP of the deck to be Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , and the runner up as Mother of Runes . The l...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I didn't try to discourage you from running blink engines - those cards are mega powerful for a variety of reasons to be sure. At the very least, they guarantee Ephara triggers on the turn after your own. In fact, one of the reasons I love blink engines in our deck is because they are great with car...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I think Meow has brought up a great point, which is the need for consistency over explosive plays and board shenanigans. Essentially, to any given card, we should think what it would do at any point in the game, how it would help the deck to win, and its utility with and without our commander. I fee...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Lavinia got a lot stronger with the new free-while-you-have-your-commander spells. That, and if it comes down early versus an artifact deck, they can't play the game until they have like 4 lands. I feel like if you want an artifact tutor, just push Inventors' Fair or Fabricate . Artifacts themselves...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I honestly don't think Knowledge Pool is that bad for us! We play tiny creatures with universal effects, why would we care if they get to cast them? On the other hand my meta is full of decks that play monster cards, like eldrazi titans, giant artifacts, some extra turns, etc. They like to spend at ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I wish we had Temur Sabertooth . Man that card is bonkers. Also, green is such a good color to have, and Chulane's game plan is so similar to Ephara's, that I'm pretty certain that he's a better commander. But I am way too loyal to her to give her up now. So I did mention a possible line of victory,...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
My meta is still filled with creature shenanigans, and wipes are the absolute best way to deal with those, so I don't think I'll slot them out. However, if specifically artifacts and enchantments are your problem, I can definitely see Heliod's being better than Nova. I think I just wish Fracturing G...

An example of a broken EDH card is Fiend Artisan. It's pretty clear that if your golgari deck is running creatures, this guy should be slotted in. It is getting to be somewhat of a problem, with netdecking and copying other peoples' lists, but I think that has existed for a while now. People always ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
My thoughts are still that Gavi is 100% a better cycling commander. Gavi is just way better with the cycling cards on her own than Ephara is on her own, and relying on cycling token generators can be rather weak. You can have multiple locks on the board, with Eidolon, Lavinia, and Magistrate working...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens
Am I the only one thinking Narset is not good enough? I'm not sure about your metas, but mine is a very aggressive one. Between tiny goblins and huge dragons, there is no shortage of creatures to lay siege to planeswalkers. The only ones that survive are those that decently protect themselves, or th...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
As long as Magistrate will be at a fair price, he will 100% be going into my deck. Things he answers: - Commanders (obviously) - Casting from graveyard, i.e. Karador, Flashback - Casting from library, i.e. Cascade, Sunforger, Future Sight effects - Casting from exile, i.e. Rebound, theft effects, Kn...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I think I'd rather have Ephara in the 99 of Gavi. Hard to believe, but red is actually an amazing asset to her, even without Decree of Annihilation. Namely: Tectonic Reformation and various cyclable mass removals, and also more miracle spells. Not to mention Ephara really doesn't do anything if you ...

Re: Daxos, Blessed by the Sun - Monowhite lifegain
A lifegain build was actually my first thought when I looked at Daxos, and I'm glad you made the idea into reality. However, I don't think the execution is nearly as good as it can be. The legendary creatures and historic mechanic really doesn't seem to be benefiting you at all and should be replace...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens
Regarding Akim: I don't think casting one cantrip a turn is a problem, and if we do play it that way it pretty much functions as a duplicate of whatever token making ability we have. I feel like the ability is only good if you're buffing the team, because otherwise an anthem effect is better and doe...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
A. I've tested Magus of the Future and it was mediocre at best. If it were not in blue it would be bonkers, like Vizier of the Menagerie, but alas. B. Like I said, the Rangers are good if you're not the starting player or if you're against a green player, but mostly if you're not already in blue. C....

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens
I think you are wrongly underrating Shark Typhoon. If that card is good enough to enter cube forums, it has to be worth a look. The key is its cycling ability and the fact that it produces a token, all the while being virtually uncounterable. The beefy enchantment will almost never see the battlefie...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I've always found Future Sight to be pretty bad in commander, since blue is just so broken. Courser is amazing in green because it is modeled as a superb defense, with a card advantage mechanic that the color can already abuse. In white it is still powerful because of the lack of card advantage, but...

If you play Magistrate, Eidolon, and Teferi, that's three things locking down the board with KP.
