Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

I will say that Flagstones of Trokair is a stupid cool combo. I run both Kjeldoran Outpost and Lotus Field , so it is a very good land to sac. Not to mention that once you do sac it, you can bring in duals untapped. The reason I run these lands, despite them potentially putting me slightly back, is ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

So suddenly, Whitemane Lion is Divination each turn? Plus Barrin is YEETing something on entry for more abusable shenanigans? I don't think it will push out Brazen Borrower // Petty Theft for me, that card is super solid on its own. But the potential is unreal, so something will certainly leave the ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

I'm actually hoping for a couple of things in the recent sets: - Commander Legends: good consistency tools, good removal - Zendikar: giant white / blue bombs, obnoxious landfall value engines The more I think about it, the more Admonition Angel pops up to me. Gorgeous art, decent beatstick, and with...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens

He might not be the best in a cEDH or super competitive meta but I think he an hold his own in most situations. There is actually a pretty sick cEDH Kykar list going around, mostly going for Divergent Transformations into Elsha of the Infinite + Spellseeker to fetch Enlightened Tutor to fetch Sense...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

Eventually, you will slot Knight of the White Orchid over Hawk, and once that happens you will not be able to understand how you tried to stick with it for so long. I'm not sure of the cause and the effect in the relationship between power ramping and winning. It could be that power ramping makes it...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

I am floored at the thought of you slotting out Norn, but I guess you really are going for the blink synergy style rather than a hatebear one.

What are your thoughts of new Teferi?

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control

My understanding of MTGO metas is that players really dislike instant speed interactions because the software is unintuitive and cumbersome. And MTG becomes a very different game if you ignore the stack, so I guess that tends to attract a specific type of person. I used to play a Mizzix storm deck. ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

If you're playing a hatebears deck and power is not an issue, Aven Mindcensor is a must. The crippling asymmetrical effect it has, along with the flash flying body, is just too good to pass up on. It's actually most effective against green decks, but also very strong against black and against white.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

Eidolon is a hatebear, and like any other hatebear it depends on the meta in which you play it in. However, since playing more than one spell per turn is something that usually indicates a player that is in good shape, it can fulfill a more general role of preventing big turns or consecutive big pla...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

Who in the hell would blow removal on a Rampant Hawk? :P I was referring to Faerie Artisans when he mentioned his group didn't remove it. A crucial mistake in my eyes, especially if the group is ETB the gathering. Can I mention Teferi's Ageless Insight ? I mean I know Alhammarret's Archive is proba...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

Frankly, if you're ahead even versus land matters decks, and if they don't even have removal for a flying 2/2, it sounds like your deck is just better than the meta you're in, or perhaps that they just aren't adjusting to it. My thoughts are that in a higher power level meta, Ghostly Flicker just wo...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

If your meta is decent, having your opponents play multiple spells per turn usually means they are ahead and don't care about your one card. However, this guy can be pretty sick in a deck that forces people to attack *you*. I emphasized the last part because that's where the problem is. Goading is a...

Have you given any thought to running Veil of Summer? It's as good as, if not better, than some of your current protection spells.

Re: Ephara ETB Flicker

This is indeed an ETB heavy build! I do think that Rite of Replication is a classic well worth considering. It's a clone for 4 that can be fetched with Mystical Tutor , but late game the swing it generates can win games. Imagine this on your own creatures: Agent of Treachery , Sun Titan , Mulldrifte...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

I think that instead of Lumbering Battlement , a conditional card that requires quite a bit of tinkering, I prefer simply flickering the mind controlled creature with Thassa, Deep-Dwelling , which we play anyway. If you'll look at how the ability is worded, the creature simply returns under your per...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

That's true, because in my games, if the playgroup let that happen, you have already won in a sense. Just slamming a Sun Titan in play, even if it's already late game, is ambitious. The reason Ephara hatebears work so well in my group is that the small creatures each pose a threat that replaces itse...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

The judge in me *really* wants to correct you there (so, I am going to): it isn't activated, it is triggered. I phrase it the same way we phrase "activating" or "animating" Ephara :) but I do appreciate minds that don't skip the small stuff. I'm so surprised people don't get eme...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

I definitely did recommend Cryptic before! And still do, especially now that it's gone down in price for some reason. Mystic Sanctuary is a card that I slotted in myself, it's especially ridiculous with miracle cards like Terminus . Since I haven't managed to activate Emeria once, I gave up on it in...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control

While it's true that Sylvan Library is the pinnacle of green card draw, and almost of card draw in general, I don't see much similar effects in your deck. Most cards I can find are about ramping with a vengenace, and the only true card draw effects I could find were Erebos, God of the Dead , which I...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control

A card that I don't get why you're not playing is Vizier of the Menagerie . You seemed ecstatic about Vivien doing the same even though she was a PW, which is much worse for you, and that's even without the fixing part. In my own Karador, Vizier has been quite impressive, there's hardly a time I res...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control

So I'm not so certain about Eerie Ultimatum. I mean we mostly care about creatures, and except for the benefit of recurring lands, it seems harder to cast and narrower than Rise of the Dark Realms. Why run the Ultimatum over RotDR?

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis

I think the Octopus is not good for Ephara, especially the thought of mutating it onto her. Doing that will not count the Octopus's mana cost for devotion, and Ephara will still have her Theros god ability, so if you won't have 7 devotion you will A) not be able to mutate Octopus on her, B) if you a...

What finally made you cut Relic-Warder, after all the time I had tried to convince you to do it? Also interested in what made you cut Windborn Muse and how you're going to deal with it. Same for Land Tax. I absolutely love Deputy and don't think it will ever come out of my deck. I face big amounts o...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

Frankly it seems like if a Merciless Eviction would be played against us, they'd choose the Enchantment part and not the creature count. And in that case I'd have liked Thassa to be animated so she can be utilized more. Also, I love that the deck can toy around with effects at instant speed, maybe b...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

I guess that the number of wipes comes in again in the argument between Hawk and Sword. Odds are that if there's an opposing flying board, you will want to wipe it, but if Hawk is already in play that will feel pretty bad. On the other hand, with Sword you don't really care about wiping creatures, b...
