Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Frankly pokken I can't see you keeping Leonin Relic-Warder after acquiring this card. True, it will stop bigger artifacts and enchantments, but those are rather rare, and the plus side of hitting PWs and creatures is very significant. I saw it wasn't included in the most recent uploaded list, but on...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Apparition punishes us for exiling big things. And big battlecruiser fatties are things that people can win games with, like with Overwhelming Stampede effects, Greater Good , Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord sac effects, and more. However, it is very flexible, permanent, and possibly repeatable removal. It...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Why not both? A. Redundancy in removing nonland permanents is pretty strong. B. If you like blink shenanigans, the ultra combo is to exile the nonland permanent with Apparatition, blink it a bunch of times to get rid of more stuff, then when the opposing armada of tokens gets threatening just make t...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
It's not like you know everyone's hands. A. Some tutors require the caster to reveal the tutored card before putting it in hand, and EDH is filled with those, so they should be plenty of help. B. It's possible to bounce something that player owns to their hand. We already do that with Venser, Shape...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I'm not a big fan. I don't think we'd want to pay 8 to destroy the board with no mana for interaction after resolving it. Hour of Revelation is a disgustingly powerful card because of how easy it is to cast the card for cheap. If we'd put that aside, my friend's cube is counting MDFCs as land cards ...

Reference: https://i.redd.it/eduqocjdcli51.png While it does come down later, it's pretty much guaranteed to activate ramp at least once per round, depending on the number of green players at the table. There's a downside - it only fetches basic Plains. Honestly, much like a lot of other cards they ...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
While Harmonious Archon is a great card, it is somewhat similar to Norn in a few aspects: - It's still expensive. Only 1 less mana to play than Norn is still steep for us. - It's still not clear to be worth it. Norn is never dead, because she always buffs our board, and always debuffs our opponents'...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
So while that is really cool, I'm somewhat skeptical. Theros Beyond Death had all its innovation in the Escape mechanic. Granted it was really pushed, but they didn't break open an aspect of the game. The real innovation is saved for the sets in new planes, I feel, while the return to familiar plane...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I know we talked about Hawk being bad, but I still don't like Cartographer. 4 mana is too much for something that's only good if blinked. I feel like Knight is 100% better - even though it's conditional it's cheaper, which means a lot, and the body is better in combat which can be very relevant.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Someday you will realize that Hawk does not deserve to see play. A card that I've strangely missed is Mother of Runes . I played online versus a mono U player that stockpiled Fog Bank effects, mostly giving me control over the stack but not giving me a way to finish the game with combat. I managed t...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Eventually, you will slot Knight of the White Orchid over Hawk, and once that happens you will not be able to understand how you tried to stick with it for so long. Knight of the White Orchid was *real good* in this game I'm sorry, but you deserve this. Technically you have both slotted, but I thin...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens
I think this is the point where I recommend you guys anthem effects. Specifically instant speed ones: Dictate of Heliod and Force of Virtue , the latter even costs no mana. Beyond the anti-Evincar tech, growing your board by even +1/+1 is very easy to abuse in our deck - I would gladly trade 3 spiri...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain - Quest for Control
Elder Gargaroth is definitely top tier when it comes to defending combat in multiplayer, I'll give you that. But any number of cards are much better at impacting the board than that. My meta has a Krenko, Mob Boss deck that snowballs out of control very quickly, and it could not care less about one...

Re: Kykar, Wind's Fury - Jeskai Tokens
I disagree with this card for Kykar. The best thing it does is give you a spirit when you cast it, and I don't think it would survive until a relevant play comes up. Maybe if you sandbagged it in hand until that play came along, then played them both, then you would get some value. But for all other...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
I actually love it for Zedruu-esque decks, since you get the choice of what each player gets. And as I think with Kykar, losing a token and getting something from your opponent is very cool.
Also, you have to admit the art is awesome.

Yes, since it's allied colors there will be an azorius legend, blue creature with a W/U ability.
The thing about the unicorn is that it might not target opposing stuff, but it's tutorable via Thalia's Lancers. That is great to have.

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
It's really hard to find slots these days anywho. Truer words have not been spoken. When I need slots, what I've done multiple times is scratch the list completely and rebuild it with what I remember as the absolute essentials. I've done so twice with Ephara now. The thing with "scratch the li...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Just to add, part of it is that Wizards is printing insanely powerful cards that push the blink and tempo envelopes - while the hatebears they are printing are largely either too narrow or require a whole deck rewrite, (e.g. Hushbringer. I did play Hushbringer for a while but without a sac outlet i...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes
Thank you for posting your list! It's always nice to discuss choices and synergies. You definitely seem to be heavier on the blink plan similar to pokken, but I have my concerns about your list: Familiar's Ruse is a really cool card, but having the bounce be an additional cost very limiting. Counter...
