I'd say cursed mirror is better, probably a good choice in certain decks.

It's almost comical how good this card is for the deck.

I made him the head of a Ajani's Pridemate type deck and it worked pretty well. I think the two life per turn is pretty small potatoes if you're not using it to get more triggers like I was, so I've never really understood why he's thought of as a pillow fort commander. Magus of the blue seems a lot worse than magus of the Moon, at least in traditional uses. The extra blue pip means you can't turbo it out with solands, and blue is just a more common color than red, so more decks can just ignore the effect.
