Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

@Tzoulis You are oddly hostile, and I think I know why. Ragavan is a card you are into and any talk of banning it is a turd in your punch bowl. I was merely trying to share a neat MTG related video, in which the reviewer made some similar points to things I was saying. Wow, what a monster I must be...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Also of note UW strategies taking advantage of Urza's Saga. The T5feri +1 on Saga getting extra constructs is pretty gross. Seriously, you're at it again? What UW decks are taking advantage of Urza's Saga? You were wrong the first time, why are you repeating the same again? It was a couple (maybe e...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

No? But those cards dont do as much as Ragavan. There is no question Ragavan is way beyond the power level of cards on the banlist. The only question is...how long? How long until it too becomes banned? This is the main issue because you can't keep DRS on the list and keep a straight face when conf...

What do we think about Ragavan price going forward? Will it just keep rising until banned?
Should we ban Bolt, Swiftspear, Stoneforge and Thoughtseize as well?

In the Navy we call what you are doing "nuking it" aka over thinking it. I get that on paper it's hard to see the threat level of this package, but please keep your mind open for a sec. First off, and drill this into your mind, the package footprint is nearly invisible. The other part tha...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

So if something breaks Urza's Saga, it might be Power Conduit's ability to repeatedly (and for free) remove counters. I didn't realize Sagas "officially" used counters that can be interacted with in the rules, because honestly, I haven't played much of any format where anyone played Sagas...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I can tell you haven't played it much / at all. It's a solid finisher for a non-artifact control deck. Does it have mana cost? Yep, but it uncounterable and control decks are trying to set up grindy scenarios where this is perfect. You dont jam it Turn 1 and call it good. So what happens when you h...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Yes he stated that if he hadn't been caught up in getting Kavu under control, Urza's doesn't get printed in the state it currently in. It sort of flew under the radar. Is it bannable? I don't think so...but it will need to be watched. It just does too much for a land, in my opinion. You get a coupl...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

In the past, when I played Breach a lot, there were more times than I am comfortable with when a Breached Emrakul wasn't enough to win on the spot. I either lost on a swingback or slowly spun my wheels, completely out of gas, while my opponent's threat-dense decks did their thing to recover. It win...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Where was this confirmed? They probably refer to Sam Black's tweet that said that he, personally , didn't playtest the card. So, it's - at best - a misunderstanding of what was said since I haven't seen any other official/unofficial responses specifically referring to Urza's Saga. Saturday's challe...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

What's not to like with Urzas? I think a lot of people over look the part where you get 2 constructs initially. The card is fine and not super OP but I think there is a disgusting artifact control archetype that just got a ton of new cards. That is toxic to the format and I hope ppl stay away. In t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

To be fair, bringing the artifact lands back wouldn't be awful now. With Mox Opal gone, Affinity disappeared. Hardened Scales just barely hangs on, but just barely and it wouldn't play as many of the artifact lands anyways. That could bring back a deck that suffered collateral damage to Opals other...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

It was borderline at best, and was easily interacted with using multiple, broad, main deck interaction like creature removal, discard, and counterspells. The myths and legends of the mighty Twin far surpass the actual realities. And honestly there have been dozens top tier decks decks that were/are...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

But I mean, you have to be playing a lot of black cards to facilitate casting it for free, and white mana to cast Ephemerate. And to be Turn 1, that means 14+ W sources. Right now, there are 0 meaningful WB meta decks, and Esper Control doesn't want to mess with Ephemerate. So if one wants to put t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

There must be some broken and busted Urza / tezzeret deck with the new lands. They make solid targets for scissors too. The only thing that makes them playable is the indestructible part. That gives you a really solid foundation to build on beyond just darksteel. Maybe it will be a new deck that ar...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I wish they'd just have Commander sets so every freaking set wouldn't have to be infested with 20% commander cards. Oh yeah, they do already. Did you expect them not to cater to their largest demographic by far? Even with the commander focused cards, this set is far more aimed at Modern - and Legac...

Don't forget we also got Counterspell in this set and the usual "We regret ever printing tron lands so here's a couple more %$#% you cards" too. We just got Vindicate, so the Tron hate continues :P (Although I don't think it'll be that significant against it, but it is a relevant mainboar...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Yeah...you lost me here ^^. Whatever case you might make for Urza, if you evaluate Mox Opal as having been fine, well... Time will tell. Urza's Saga is free, uncounterable wish for 0, 1 cmc artifacts. The land part is the downside in that it eats a land drop. You can fetch Lotus Bloom, Pithing Need...

I have a couple of really old ones from way back in '98 or something lol... but I'm using them in my Commander decks. I really want the Japanese Mystical Archive version because I'm a closet weeb and it looks cool but they cost €25 a pop here in Europe. The normal Mystical Archive one... I don't kn...

Wait, Skyclave, the 1WW, exile a perm, foil, for around $8? I saw a buyer on FB offering $12.50 each, so I assumed they were currently at $15 or more. I may try to get some myself. FYI, the rest of the mail came in. Skyclave 1: $8.88, Skyclave 2: $8.99, Colonnade (x2 same seller) : $8.95/ea. Total:...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Affinity doesn't need or even want the artifact lands. What's it gonna do with overcosted 2/2s and 4/4s? It needs speed, since it's an aggro/combo deck, which it doesn't have without an accelerant like Opal. Unless they print some serious help for artifact decks including affinity for artifacts - it...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Opal isn't "free", yes it's easy to activate but it needs significant concessions in your deckbuilding at least 19 other low cost artifacts. Also, what broken artifact decks? KCI? It'd still need to be banned with Emry and Astrolabe in the format. Oko Urza? As I explained just above - and ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

How many cards had to be banned to make Urza, Lord High Artificer irrelevant? I'm kinda taking this out of context - and is not directed at you, but I've seen this sentiment - Urza being so broken, that they killed Opal for him - a lot. Ignoring the fact that we don't have enough data when both co-...

I think that's what bothers me the most. This wasn't a B&R announcement, this wasn't a Monday "we're going to make a B&R announcement next Monday" announcement, this was a footnote in a totally unrelated article that openly and explicitly named Uro. Which means there was no period...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I expect once we start seeing paper event again we might see a shift or ban to the Uro decks. 90% of Uro's existence has been since covid has been in full swing. I feel once we get more populace and data from paper events, Uro might be in trouble. Uro still "protected" by corona, so the t...
