Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fires of Yavimaya

Mass haste is amazing for combat based decks as many good beaters lack haste and do much better with it. It's ideal on your commander since such decks want the effect every game.

Fires is a fine card, but relying on your 99 for haste can be a serious limiter on reliability.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Kothophed, Soul Hoarder

Even during his release, I never considered Kothoped as he's too clunky compared to Consecrated Sphinx . Kothoped needs support to work well and not backfire, with is a hefty ask in conjunction with his six mana cost. I feel even Vilis, Broker of Blood works a lot better with black's inherent streng...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

thoughts on Winter Moon ? The card is more like Back to Basics than Winter Orb because missing basics is huge. Being colorless and a two-drop means decks that can't run Blood Moon or Back to Basics can run this instead. It sounds amazing in a number of mono-color decks as a potentially one-sided fo...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

I wanted to write a brief commentary also on why I feel so strongly about the land count and why there are so many; * Missing casting Ephara, God of the Polis on turn 4 is absolute death for this deck as designed. * Field of the Dead and Felidar Retreat are incredibly powerful finishers * supportin...

Re: SCD: Freestrider Lookout

Bristly Bill, Spine Sower could be your Commander and combine with all the lands that tap and sacrifice to get Forest like Evolving Wilds . There are 23 of them that can do this. The idea is that you put these into play off Freestrider Lookout and just wait until each players turn to actually crack...

Re: SCD: Freestrider Lookout

Try this query: f:c not:digital oracle:"target" (type:artifact OR type:creature OR type:enchantment) color<=g o:/^((?!{T})(?!has).)*:/ It filters for cards that are: -commander legal -not digital-only -contains the word target -is artifact, creature, or enchantment -is mono green or colorl...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Mithril Coat

Mithril Coat is great in commander-centric builds, and it's even better if the deck happens to run destroying board-wipes. The ability to flash equip the card makes the card work like a situational protectional spell, which makes the card way better than Darksteel Plate . That said, I don't run thi...

Re: [SCD] Koma, Cosmos Serpent

There are a number of different power levels, and it's up to the players to decide what power level they prefer playing at. Koma is strong for casual playgroups because it does a lot of what finishers want to do by itself. It's far from being CEDH though; there are still many casual decks that will ...

Re: SCD: Freestrider Lookout

I'm not sure how good these synergies will be for most decks. The ceiling is high if paired with Stone-Seeder Hierophant , but I would not run Stone-Seeder by itself and there are better two-card combos to run. Freestrider seems great with Chatterfang midgame as it could ramp out 4 lands each turn c...

Re: [MCD] Typed Land Packages

In Green decks that do not run Field of the Dead and runs a commander that functions as a payoff for ramp, I run just one or two Snow-Covered basics of each legal color for Into the North . I also run Sand Scout with Arid Archway and Cactus Preserve in Bruna, the Fading Light , but I find most of th...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - ABUR Duals

I think the biggest factors driving down land prices are the high number of alternatives and availability. Many good lands have been getting lots of reprints and even the onslaught fetches are getting reprinted soon. I personally find the tapped multi-typed lands to be weak compared to the other way...

Re: [SCD] Sand Scout

This card is great in Bruna, the Fading Light . The main drawback is requiring an opponent to have more lands to take effect, because you only need to run a few deserts. Arid Archway benefits from mono-white's catch-up ramp options and lack of card draw. Cactus Preserve is at minimum a 7/7 with Brun...
