Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

The goal of veil is not to stop game plans, it's to protect yours . People bring up cryptic command not because veil is cryptic command in green, but because its effect can be mapped to it and is a nice meme. It underlines how over-powered it is at 1 mana when it relevant. This is something that com...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

This new Yawgmoth, Thran Physician - Geralf's Messenger ticks all the boxes for being a Tier 1 modern deck. Its success hinges on the fact that PtE is not played as much as it used to be because white is not part of many tier 1 decks right now. As for the health of the format, it always makes me cr...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

My take on the non-ban is that Wizards: Tried to save face by not banning 6-7 cards in one go. Is mostly data-driven as their ban explanation constantly mention MTGO and GP. I think they will continue to watch and then "discover" that: Veil and OuaT are the most-played cards and are too pr...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I guess they want to see how things develop before acting on veil, OuaT or astrolabe. Diversity will go up now is my prediction. (Duh) PS: the correct wording is: "there are no mox opal decks without artifacts". If you can't see why a zero-mana mana-rock is problematic, that's on you. If y...

Ban Astrolobe, veil, Emery as this alone is a massive nerf to both urza and oko style decks without hitting the key card in both decks.
Yes, this would hit every oko decks, like infect, jund oko, bant snow, titanshift, ... no.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I disagree here too. If we use the definition provided a while ago that linear is essentially a word for counting the number of decision points, then it stands to reason that a linear deck has very little variation in their cards. All decks are going to run roughly the same number of cards, and the...

Kinda enjoyed seeing the anti-deathtouch tech in Mirror Shield. Overall, lots of interesting cards and it will be fun to see how they shake things up.
Ugh. That card reads "my limited bomb is unkillable, deal with it"

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

While it's a nice thought experiment, I don't see how throwing more unban-fuel to the modern fire would help the situation. I won't even discuss which cards are safer and which are just crazy-talk. I can believe some people may think that the format power level is fine and thus enabling even crazier...

Until you see that it lets you grab two cards: a creature AND/OR a land
Yep, misread that, good thing to know before playing with it! That makes it quite better in limited. Turn 3 is about when you often play your last naturally-drawn land. And it makes the card better in the late game.

Given the existing alternatives (not necessarily standard-legal, but some *cough* are) this is really innefficient mana-wise.

With Uro's sacrifice trigger on the stack I cast this omen, triggering my thaumaturgis to copy Uro. Attack for 6, gain 3 life, draw a card, play 2nd land. Go.

Goodness, people have differrent opinions than me, so let's put them in bullet points: People who disagree about cards on the banned list are wrong. I choose to ignore scenarios that don't fit my opinion People talk about the last time a ban card was legal. Jace and SFM are played in some deck, but...

I get the idea, but the second ability is over complicated for such a weak pay-off. (You need to constantly keep WG up to be useful.)

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Jund is not a top deck only because the power of modern is too high currently. It's not a complete dog. If Wizards took action like ktkenshinx suggests, then jund would come back. Not the top deck of the format, but a reasonable choice if you like that kind of deck. That's why I disagree both with &...

Re: [THB] Black enchantment demon (Magic Noobz)

It's very strong for ETB, LTB abilities triggering a second time with the copy. It also double effect of sacrifice outlets.

I wonder if it works in multiple? After "if you do" is fullfilled for all copies in play, so you would get multiple copies? If correct, that would be sick.

On twin vs jace (and other cards brought up, like stoneforge): the difference is that twin is a win-con, jace is a control piece. On twin unbanning: I don't think now is the right moment. We have problems to solve, unbanning twin has a slight chance of being wrong. It's not a matter of who's right o...

Typos: You mention both Oko and Oko the Broko in the "Redefining Staple" list entry. "in additi and that terms needs to go" nonsensical sentence in the reworking of modern's 9 principles. "top tier and doing so" would read better as "top tier while doing so".

Like pokken said the tax is way too low. This will be laughed off the board. I mean it will be laughed off even on the board. Its not like people are activating 5 loyalty abilities per turn nor that people are running 5 different PW, so pithing needle is a better answer.

LOL. I guess scorn is weaker than revenge. A worse sea god's revenge. (Edit: scorn lets you return your own guys, unlike revenge, so the lack of scry does not make it strictly worse.)

Polymorph on legs is not bad.
