"Quirks That Define Your EDH Style"
There is a foreword to this topic. You may skip it if you like. So I got stoned after work and started trawling the nexus forums as usual, but I found myself struck by a rare bout of nostalgia for all the good times back over on Sally. Don't mistake this for buyer's remorse; I firmly believe MTGSal...

Re: Thassa’s Oracle and the Case for Flash
Flash is a menace, this we can all agree on. The meteoric rise in prominence of Hulk-Flash in cEDH is almost immediately subsequent to Hulk's unbanning, a fact that cannot be understated or ignored in any historical analysis of the cEDH metagame. The relative ease, efficiency, and resilience of its ...

Re: Mystical Teachings
Card was godlike in Time Spiral standard. You could t4 teachings into t5 teferi, all with mana open for responses. That being said, two cards for 10 is a lot. I think it's best as spellseeker backup for dedicated consultation decks and lesser elsewhere, but man, I'd slam it into a flex spot any day ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Sword of Truth and Justice
Thursday, January 16th, 2020; Sword of Truth and Justice sword of truth and justice So, it's been a few months since release. How does this sword stack up to the rest? Mediocre outside of dedicated proliferate strategies/go-tall equipment decks. Pro-blue is meh and one or two +1/+1 counters is not ...

Re: Tatyova, Benthic Druid: We bounce a lot.
:please: Cards from New Theros set: Dryad of the Ilysian Grove : Another land drop in the 3 cmc spot is sweet. Making all lands rainbow is just gravy. Nylea's Intervention : Helps in finding Sunscorched Desert for the win or Mystic Sanctuary for chaining turns. It warrants testing but it hurts it be...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Hulk is insane, but a clear combo/tutor card that many casuals want to avoid. This card is like Primeval Titan - not only easy to cheat out, clone, bribery, etc, but it fits into all the timmy decks. I think this card will be highly played and very centralizing. Caveat upfront: I don't know how lon...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I heard you liked Mana Reflection ... so yeah, Nyxbloom Ancient is a thing... guesses on price/staple status? It'll be $3-8 while in standard, 10-20 after rotation, up to $30+ in five years if not reprinted and/or the card is important. Triple mana is sweet, but I think 7 drops have to be truly ins...

In response to the violent volley of essays into which this thread has devolved: Dirk, do you remember Phil's stax guide over on MTGS? You should consider writing out a treatise on edh real politik (it would probably have a lower word count than your contributions to this thread lol). You seem to in...

Evolutionary Escalation seems like a must! Give a dude three counters and eat them later if it becomes too troublesome. Hard to lose that two-horse race.

Pardon me if I missed any provided reasoning for the exclusion, but why not run skullclamp? Seems like it would be insane even if you're buffing the tokens with anthems and whatnot. Edit: I'll add an additional "Pardon Me" just in case you've been beaten to death with this question over o...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Polukranos, Unchained is my kind of magic. He can eat bigger dudes easier and he's a monster if you can keep him escapin'. I'm considering him in Windgrace as another recurring threat alongside Multani and Jarad.

Re: Secret Lair
An even better example is tarmogoyf, which started looking pretty 2/3 or so in the original art, but now looks like a 10/10 world devourer or something. It's obviously really good in tournament play but c'mon, it's still only a 2 mana creature, save the epic artwork for the 7-drops. /rant. What abo...

Re: Which direction to take a Soldier deck - Brimaz, Gahiji, Marisi, Linden, other?
I think Kambal, Consul of Allocation would be an excellent albeit unusual choice to lead your soldiers. Black covers a lot of white's inherent EDH shortcomings and kambal advances your aggro plan by punishing value plays that would otherwise threaten to overtake/disrupt your proactive board presence.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Dense Foliage
Play it in Shanna, Sisay's legacy for DIY shroud? This card seems more like a weird stax piece against spellslinger than a real defensive piece? Maybe good in a tim deck, where pinging still gets through? I dunno, and my thumb fell asleep while typing this, so i will speculate no further.

I personally have always gotten better value off a gen wave for only two cmc more, but YMMV. The spell mastery bit is pretty trivial.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Vorapede
Best in a Goreclaw deck probably. The Pede lets you cash in on Greater Good twice and swings/blocks big for what will usually only cost 3. And Inb4 the inevitable "it just beats thus it sux"/"needs value"/"bleh" comments roll in, I'm personally against the argument that...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Energy Flux
Another excellent and underplayed hate piece and in my mind, the mtg equivalent of $9 cigarettes in California. Best way to disincentivize behavior is to tax the the hell out of it.
But I haven't quit smoking or playing artifact decks yet, so we'll see.

Just take it easy and take care of yourself. If you can, on the way there, stop through the PDX scene with some advance heads up so we can get a chance to play with "the godfather", so to speak. Seconded! I know it's in the totally opposite direction of your current pursuit, but do let me...

Re: Headed for Seattle
Howdy Sheldon, hope you're feeling well and that you remember your umbrella! I have only one small thought: please restore tuck rules. Commander tax is not always a sufficient floodgate against certain generals such as edgar markov, etc, and it would incentivize players to build decks without such o...
