Re: Marks core 2021 teasers
French vanilla mythic reminds me of Ol' Walletslayer Angel. My money is on the efficient flying 5/5s. Although, protection from deomns and dragons does jack in standard, so maybe not.

Re: June 1 2020 rules changes
Good riddance to bad rubbish. I haven't gotten any games in since lockdown, but I was dreading playing against virtual 9 card openers, what with partners and now this balderdash. I'm glad that Zirda exists now though. I feel I'll enjoy seeing it much more totally unattached to every other activated ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Jace, Cunning Castaway
I'm not a huge fan of effects that require a lot of hand-holding to be useful. If you've got doubling season out already, O.G. Tamiyo or Jace, Architect are where you want to be. This card has a really low floor and a popcorn ceiling IMHO, and so for that, back to the bin with thee!

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Fires of Invention
Fires is a weird animal; it cuts costs while limiting output, which frees up mana with which to do... whatever? Usually when I want my spells for free, I also want a lot of them. Putting yourself under a weakened rule of law and your opponents in a city of solitude is a wicked nasty drawback too. No...

Re: Need Recommendations for Mono/Duo Color Decks
I've found that monogreen is basically everything you need to properly enjoy EDH. Literally pick a general, slam together a pile of ramp, draw, staples, and fatties and you're there. It's never been easier or more satisfying.

Re: The Right Level of Commander Reliancy
It's more art than science in my opinion, but it ultimately boils down to "Did you build the deck to facilitate the general or vice-versa?" Bottom-up design differs radically from top-down design, and a given deck's reliance on its commander will lean one way or another (regardless of any ...

Re: How Often Do You Support Your Local Game Store (LGS)?
I love my LGS and its community therein, so I try to put 10-30 bucks in their pocket whenever I go. I buy 90% of my product from them (the 10% exception being when my impatience overtakes my perspective) and I do my best to give them first crack at my money out of earned loyalty. Sure, I pay a littl...

Re: Nissa's Spanish Inquisition!
Hurricane + big mana + glacial chasm is my go-to alternate route in monogreen. Dealing 22-30 to each opponent late game is very doable.

Re: Removal and Restrictions: An Analysis
I'd personally like to see the data and analysis expanded to encompass removal towards all permanent types as opposed to only creatures. Doing so allows us to see which niche removal spells have hit rates well above their EV and should therefore see more play despite their ostensible limitations. Al...

Re: Drannith Magistrate
It affects all opponents, which means it doesn't just die to removal; it dies three times as quickly to it. That being said, I prefer this to being mindalavered into putting my general up my nose or in some other inaccessible zone.9

Re: Killing commanders (permanently)
DirkGently I play in a few metas (few different lgs's) regularly, and I've never seen a meta where people were so antisocial and cloistered as to force a table into CEDH regularly before. Honestly, we've been using Rule 0 a lot this year and it's vastly improved my games at least. But hey, if you'r...

Re: Killing commanders (permanently)
I love me a good thought experiment, but this thread strikes me as a somewhat putrid display of gamesmanship. You're going to deliberately try to permanently disable a fundamental, defining aspect of the format and gameplay experience for what exactly? To prove you can? To show that Korvold player ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Armillary Sphere
I think hitting all one's land drops is oft underrated. Sphere is acceptable in that it is colorless card advantage that (more or less) sets your next two turns straight in terms of achieving basic resource parity. Is it busted? No. Is it worse in a world where Ash Barrens exists? Absolutely. Is it ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Friends, I was cool with Song Of Creation's design until I saw Whirlwind of Thought. Now I'm wondering why the RUG got the shortest end of the drawback stick while Jeskai once again floats away on clouds of unfettered value. I admit, I'm salty as hell.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I dunno about the ultimatums. I'm entrenched enough to remember many moons of spoiler season doomsaying and I've seen Time Spiral do dirtier things than most men can imagine. Their power may be being overblown. The flip side is that 7+ cmc spells should win you the game, right? Or at least get you d...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
I think Footfall Crater is quietly very good. Cycling when you don't need it, evasion and haste when you do, very affordable either way. This feels like one of those things where the only true opportunity cost is the volume of the slot it takes up. Most voltron decks could use this.

I'm just here to represent those among us who don't give two tiddly %$#% about this otter and its implications. As far as I'm concerned, it never existed and hell, I prefer this kind of ban over letting something wreak havoc for two years, getting emotionally attached to it, bonding with it, only to...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
As someone who spent his childhood watching old monster movies and listening to MF Doom, I must have a copy of that King Ghidorah card. Don't really care how much $$$ it runs for, doesn't matter if it's good or not, and if I have to buy it in a secret lair from Lucifer himself in exchange for 200 fo...
